Umm, yes. It is what you voted for. Did you vote for him based on his credentials or something?

FTFA: not a rerun of 'Law & Order'

"episode of CSI:wherever" would have been funnier, IMO.

TeddyRooseveltsMustache [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 01:37:41 PM
If you voted for him, and you don't want to see him on tv, then you're an idiot.

-You don't have to watch him, because we have something in the 21st century called cable television.

-I don't think he has been on television any more frequently than Bush was, and even if he was, he has a shiatload more problems to deal with than Bush did anyway.

So in short, Bill Maher should shove a cock in it.

And you may ask yourself
Who is that in the White House?
And you may ask yourself
Where'd candidate Obama go?
And you may ask yourself
Am I right? ...am I wrong?
And you may tell yourself
My god!...what have I done?

You voted for a guy who is as vapid as a TV newsanchor. What did you expect?

I always get Bill Maher and Craig Watson (from Body Double) confused. It is good to know that I am not the only one.

"TV stars are too worried bout being popular and too concerned about being renewed."

This. The American people elected you because they were fed up with Bush and the Republicans, and wanted a change for the better. So shut down Guantanamo already, get us the fark out of Iraq, stop supporting DOMA and DADT, and stop trying to compromise with Republicans on every farking thing when your party controls Congress.

Can you give us a teleprompter joke also if you have time ? C'mon, you know you desperately want to.

He tried to shut down Gitmo. The problem is that members of his own party are hiding behind NIMBY when it comes to taking detainees for the supermax prisons. It was if our representatives think the prisoners are warlocks or something...

Mentat [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 02:27:43 PM
He does need to get his ass in gear on DOMA and DADT. Like Clinton before him, he talked a big game but hasn't come through.

Gitmo is just bullshiat from the Congress. There was a GOP rep arguing the other day that Gitmo needed to remain open because we needed some place to hold detainees if they were found innocent. Congressional Dems apparently thought this made sense.

Er...unlike his invisible predecessor, Obama frequently speaks directly to reporters and people/organizations, and not surprisingly, this is caught on camera and broadcast. I don't see the problem, Bill...I like you, but this is just you being a douche.

We should totally let Barack Obama expand executive power so he can get around congress. Hey, wait a minute...

I think a lot of people are missing Bill's point here.

He's not just mad that Obama's not on television. He's mad that Obama is on television but has nothing to say. He's upset because Obama has done next to nothing with the office so far, yet is holding press conferences every day.

I'm sure if it was Bill's show he was appearing on, he'd be singing a different tune as well.

Most of Bush's problems were self created but there were a lot more fires to put out in 2001-2004.

Every president inherits the problems that the last administration hadn't conquered. I also find it telling that the assumption is that he created all of his own problems in 9 months.

Your post specifically is telling because it assumes that the world loved us, that the economy wasn't in a downward spiral due to the tech bubble bursting, and that there were no homeless, uninsured, or otherwise disenfranchised people until Bush was sworn in in January of '01. That wasn't the case, but keep on believing.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 04:31:59 PM
Let's not get crazy here. We all know bush inherited an unholy nightmare with the country on the verge on complete downfall... and we know that he also turned things around in a way that only a divine being possibly could. I think what we're saying here is that Obama is facing so many messes because of all of his own horrible mistakes and mismanagement. The man has been the worst nightmare the country has ever faced, and obviously he's in over his head.

Lol.

"He's on TV too much!" is now "My god! What have I done?" territory?

I usually agree with Maher, but I think he's wrong here. He gets on TV because he's photogenic and his family is photogenic and it's easy for the 24 hour news channels to talk about whatever the hell the Obama's are doing right now than to do some actual journalism.

There are plenty of things you could easily criticize Obama about, but this? This is silly.

Obama would have to do a LOT worse to make me even consider that I was wrong to vote for him. I mean, I might not vote for him again, but McCain/Palin, Cynthia McKinney, Bob Barr, or Obama? He's gonna have to sink pretty low for me to think I should have voted for someone else.

Except that moving too quick and too brashly is exactly what the Republicans did in 2003 and 2004 when they controlled the Hill, and now we're seeing everything they did so quickly without building support for crumbling under a new administration. Much better to move slowly, build consensus, compromise a bit, and get lasting policies out of the deal, than eight years of reprieve from idiocy only to rush back into it like we did with Reagan/Bush/Clinton.

The knock on Bill Clinton was the "permanent campaign". In Obama's case, it's actually true. Looking good and talking is pretty much all he's ever been good for, so naturally that's what you're going to get.

I'd rather he bring the troops home from Iraq, reinstate Habeas Corpus and Quo Warranto, review the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act. You know. The shiat he said he would do.

Then, he can have a glorious presser and I'll tune in and happily sing his praises.

...excuse me? The reason he's on camera all the time is that he allows himself to be media-accessible. As a result, the state of the media today (wherein journalists are of a quality the National Enquirer would've rejected a decade ago) means that they're reporting on his every single move and trying to kick up controversy where there is none.

Seriously, Bill Maher is bashing Obama because someone else is bashing him for putting mustard on his hamburger. That's all this is boiled down to.

Folks, we are not exactly out of the woods yet. The markets need reassurance.

You can accuse Obama of doing too much (the bailout) or not enough (the bailout) -- but either way, if 'overexposure' is on your list of complaints, you are officially a partisan hack.

SpwimmingInNY 2009-06-14 04:50:11 PM

How does Obama look in a v-neck sweater?

Maybe he could give folksy Fireside Chats to America over the radio apparatus.

Beats the Hell out of sickly saccharine Shirley Temple wannabees, dance marathons, fakey gameshows, ranting right wing loons ... hey, wait a minute!

As much as I love Bill Maher's earnestness, intelligence and wit, he's very often on the wrong side of debate.

So sue him!
