FTA: Opposition supporters claimed ballot fraud.

Moussavi has also claimed victory.

Effectively saying "I was elected and the election results are a sham" doesn't make a whole lotta sense.

FredaDeStilleto [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 09:38:55 AM
FTFA: Some reports indicated that he (Mousavi) had been detained. Others said he was at home, conducting meetings, but was free to come and go as long as he informed authorities.

Half a dozen of one, six of another.

Tatsuma: So what happened while I was sleeping, praying and eating breakfast?

apparently nothing has happened, it was all a hoax. There was no violence, Iran is not having a civil war, the election was not rigged, nobody has died. There has been no disruption of cell phone coverage.

The really really weird part to all this is the jarring difference in coverage. what people on the street are saying is VASTLY different than what's being reported by CNN, MSNBC, FOX, et al. If you only watched the major news outlets you would get the impression that a kegger got outta hand and that's it. But if you watched the twitter feeds, really bad shiat is going down right now.

Top 3 on CNN are about Iran.

# Ahmadinejad won't guarantee rival's safety 12 min
# Ticker: Biden has 'doubts' about Iran election
# Poll: Half of Israelis open to bombing Iran 29 min

Its the front page on MSNBC

Front page on Fox, too.

Wow. Armored Dinner Jacket says he can't guarantee Moussavi's safety. That's an incredibly thinly veiled threat if I've ever seen one. Mobster would be more careful with their language.

Anaxphone [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 10:27:42 AM
Wow, now he's claiming to be a direct descendant of Mohammad?

I know his name means of the bloodline of Mohammad, but I was under the impression that it was changed by his family to that years ago and they had no such claim in actuality. Can anyone better informed than I comment on this?

Actually, there are rumours that he's from a forcibly converted Jewish family and changed his name to hide his background.

Weaver95: Oh that guy is toast. No doubt in my mind about it.

Yeah, Moussavi is going to repeatedly fall down stairs accidently until he dies.

He really doesn't get it does he? Killing Moussavi would only galvanize the population. Probably turn this into a full blown civil war.

Any more news on where this coup originated last night? When I went to bed last night there was speculation that even the mullahs were unaware that this was going to happen, but now they're along for the ride. Was the IRG involved?

Shhh. You might give people ideas.

I don't really think he's going to er.. *dispatch* his opponent. But since it looks as if he's still going to be in charge for a while, I'm not surprised our media is doing everything possible to remind us that he is a bad guy hellbent on starting Armageddon.

On a side note, I love the picture of Ahmadinejad that CNN decided to run.

It seems they always go out of their way to sort through his most dumbfounded 'duhhh' expressions possible, and finally select the one where he looks like he's trying to remember whether he turned off the coffee pot.

Quick updates:

- From Qom: Reformist grand ayatolah Saneyi is in house arrest and his office phones lines answered by ministry of Intel #iranelection

- Ahmadynezad now calls himself "seyed" (bloodline of prophet mohammad) & wearing a green shawl on state TV! unbelievable! #IranElection

- Karoubi does NOT recognize Ahmadinejad as President, and declares the election VOID & urges people to stand #iranelection

Tatsuma [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 11:16:24 AM
From what I get in other sources (some of it everyone knows):

- Tehran is under martial law. Phone lines are dead, so is internet communication, people with satellite dishes need to hide them as police are cracking down on them too

- The Revolutionary Guards are attacking University dorms all across Iran. University teachers are resigning en masse.

- Protesters have taken over at least two police stations in north of Tehran. Rioting has spread to all major cities.

- Many ministry buildings have been set on fire.

- Most commentators seem to believe that Iran is on the verge of civil war and that Moussavi's supporters are actually looking toward removing the Supreme Leader from power.

- All foreign press has been told to leave the country

- Things like this are happening all over: News: Pregnant woman beaten yesterday at Fatemeh Sq. and motocycle ran over her #iranelection

Everyone with any power has got the fark out of dodge city for now I would imagine, and the "President" might very well be mad with power right now.

The Ayatollah of Rock and Rollah
Grand Ayatollah Sanei in Iran has declared Ahmadinejad's presidency illegitimate and cooperating with his government against Islam. There are strong rumors that his house and office are surrounded by the police and his website is filtered. He had previously issued a fatwa, against rigging of the elections in any form or shape, calling it a mortal sin.
