It's great to listen to when you want to pretend you're in a shiatty car commercial.

But I like to pretend I'm in an awesome beer commercial.

And then, in a process that is way not revolutionary, Moby became uncool. He was too mainstream for the rave kids who used to worship him; too techno for the crossover crowd; he sold records, but only, it was assumed, to dentists' offices and cat ladies, who liked the soothing sounds that had been featured on Pure Moods III.

Moby fell out long before that. He stopped being "cool" right after the "Move EP." None of the "rave" kids ever bothered with him after that. The "mainstream" audience turned towards Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Aphex Twin, and Fat Boy Slim.

Moby sells "techno" to people who have no idea what "techno" is. The only people with Moby albums are the ones who might have a random Daft Punk album in their collection.

By the way, the artist mentioned at the end of the article is Loscil, not "Locil."

I'm not much of an electronic music kind of guy but Loscil is great. I listen to Submers all the time.

moby quit being relevant around the same time that he quit being voodoo child.

I remember reading someplace in 1999 that he's distantly related to Herman Melville, hence the stage name. True?

Jackal & Hyde, not to be confused with Jackal & Hide or Jeckyll & Hyde or at least 5 other acts with very similar names
/no, so far I only listened to 1 "song" by 1 of these people

*self-facepalm*

I thought it was them, but didn't feel like going to Discogs to check. I thought, "why would a guy who likes French house be into Jackal & Hyde?"

You sort of hand in your "Underground" card when you remix Kid Rock though.

OK, now we know he's talking about FARK. What's his login?

18 was a way better album, anyway.

I'm into many things, (electronica:P or not), but Jackal & Hyde are not among them. I only came upon their picture while looking for creators of "The Jackal"

Fennesz is nice. Can't say I'm into the other two.

I'm not big on Jackal & Hyde either. Couple of songs aren't bad.

Jeckyll & Hyde are pretty good at some of their remixes.

Never heard of any of the other ones.

Moby is just needs to get over himself. He just takes himself way way to serious.

BornfromPain: Moby is just needs to get over himself. He just takes himself way way to serious.

He actually doesn't and he is a pretty down to earth guy compared to how far out there some music artists get.

I don't hate him, but reading articles like these it's really disappointing. He says in the article he goes on iTunes and randomly clicks through ambient music listened by other people. Somehow Loscil gets mentioned (and spelled incorrectly.)

A lot of other artists would take the time to promote other artists in the scene that they like. This is the best he can do? What a waste. You give some of the new guys like Stephen Hitchell or Omar-S some press time and they show nothing but love for everyone around them.

Just not impressed by the guy at all anymore.

I love Moby and just pre-ordered his new album.

Suck it, people who are too cool for Moby!
