Cool!

Finally, something cool happened in Raleigh. Good work!

Skerrvy [TotalFark] 2009-06-13 05:59:51 PM
that's awesome! at least there were photos taken of it before it came down.

rachelehcar [TotalFark] 2009-06-13 06:16:10 PM
That was amazing.

Get that man a scholarship to Rhode Island School of Design!

I hope people chip in to pay the $360 bill.
He doesn't look like he can afford it.

Four Horsemen of the Domestic Dispute 2009-06-14 11:16:34 AM
I'd be willing to hand the construction company the 360 bucks if I could keep the monster (the barrel one, not the constructor).

Wow, Jake Gyllenhaal needs a shave.

Shiat, the DoT ought to put that guy in charge of coning all future road construction zones. I'm sure everyone would pay a lot more attention if the "Slow" sign was held by a slavering death-cone monster.

ElLoco 2009-06-14 11:17:17 AM
Ok... that is just awesome.

skinink 2009-06-14 11:17:23 AM

That's pretty good, it looks like some of the Photoshops in Fark threads that are done by texture.

Hopefully they'll just drop the criminal charges but get him with civil penalties and leave it at that. Yes I realize he stole someone else's property but I would judge in this case he shouldn't be found guilty.

I like it.

I suspect the Art would sell for far more than the claimed damages.

I've been picked up by the cops for messing with barrels and road signs in high school. Got off eventually but it still sucked being taken home in cuffs at 4am.

Four Horsemen of the Domestic Dispute: I'd be willing to hand the construction company the 360 bucks if I could keep the monster (the barrel one, not the constructor).

That's what I'm thinking: put it up for sale. I bet it would get well over $360.

How much did it cost to for the cops to get you off?

If they're accepting bids on Cone Monster, I'd like to start with $400.

I'd buy the statue for whatever it costs to get him out.

I am guessing the $360 is for the Barrels he cut to make it.
Very cool, but, still Vandalism. They were not his to cut.

Ain't that the truth. NCDMV could do worse, and does! If I were loaded I'd pay his court fees and fines to get him clear of this. This kind of creativity doesn't often see the light of day.

I'm curious as to why 3 orange barrels costs 360 dollars. Is that how much the cities are paying for them? Is that one of the many reasons why NYC is broke?

The monster has 1 for a head, 2 for legs, and maybe 2 or 3 for his body, maybe they're charging him for stealing 5 or 6 but he only destroyed 3? even 60 bucks a pop seems high though

RTFA the barrels were owned by a construction contractor. City of Raleigh doesn't own them, they just get to pay for them over, and over, and over as this contractor adds the costs in to his contract bids.

I'll put in a bid of $450 for a night with the beardy artist.

His next project should be a artsy wheelbarrow to carry his balls.

Bra-vo.

shotglasss 2009-06-14 11:28:54 AM
Put the slow sign in the monster's hand and put the 5-7 guys standing around holding signs back to work.

Well done by this guy.

Pollexabator 2009-06-14 11:30:53 AM
At least the cops in Raleigh were reasonable about it. Imagine if he had done this in Boston: SWAT teams called in to neutralize the construction cone public threat with sniper fire, flashbangs, and a tank; friendly creative hippy charged with 15 counts of terrorism...

Not to mention that a $360 cone monster is a lot less than a weeks wage for the slack-jawed sign holders they have now.

So, this story was denied publication here when it was actually news (Friday) and now that Reddit, Digg and every other news ag site posts it, Fark moderators decide it's now news??

How lame can you moderators be?

The NC DOT and the local city authorities should think about their butthurt the next time there's a hurricane and they leave our neighborhood littered with cones, barrels, and a detour sign. We called the city for a year after Hurricane Fran asking them to pick up their crap. After repeated indifference on the part of our city maintenance department we used the items to create a rather nasty roadblock in major intersection. Sure enough, they finally picked up their equipment.

I'm sure it's not any better on the state level. As expensive as those cones can be, they don't treat them very well until someone decides to take taxpayer property into their own hands.

And? It sounds like he did read the article. I see no reason those should cost $120 apiece other than a corrupt relationship between politicians and construction companies.
