I read on CNN a couple weeks ago about how everyone hated how Conan was taking over The Tonight Show, over Jay Leno. Commenting how they didn't get his sense of humor. You know what I don't get, is how you don't get Conan's humor. This video is pure brilliance. I mean, it's not as classic as Conan's visit to see Hunter S. Thompson. However, that was pure win right there.

That was so f'ing awesome! I've been watching Conan's show for a few years now and the transition he has made to the Tonight Show is absolutely brilliant!

It's a damn shame the mustard has come off Conan's hotdog so early into his new Tonight Show endeavor. I like the new Tonight Show more with him at the helm but the current Nielsen ratings tell a different story.

Not really. Did anyone expect Conan to be a record setter out of the gate?

He still bounced back to beat Dave on Wednesday night, and it looks like CoCo is pulling in a younger audience than Jay was, so NBC just might let Conan keep the job for a while!

It'll take a while for things to settle down. And Jay will be back in September to deliver the geriatric crowd, and the spotlight will be off Conan for a while.

I didn't expect him to be a record setter out of the gate, no. The geriatric crowd that gave Conan's Tonight Show a chance has since moved on to Letterman. At least for now until Leno gets back on the air. So yeah I do agree with you about Leno.

I wasn't really bashing Conan, I liked his Late Night Show and I still like what he's doing on the Tonight show. I have no complaints there.

After the awesomeness that was Bill Hicks, why do other people even bother trying to do comedy?

FirstNationalBastard 2009-06-12 04:07:51 PM
I loved the Focus Group bit the other night. Sad part is, I could see that happening in every home in America watching Conan's Tonight Show and expecting Jay.

Now, when will Masturbating Bear come back and cause a few heart attacks among the old folks left watching?

As for Slash and Conan, I loved the creepy guy and his dad. And did anyone notice the mug shot bit earlier in the show, where Andy had silver spray paint on his face? Was that FARK inspired, or just a coincidence?

FirstNationalBastard 2009-06-12 04:09:29 PM
Propain_az: After the awesomeness that was Bill Hicks, why do other people even bother trying to do comedy?

...because Bill's dead, his topical material is about 15 years out of date, life goes on, and people still want to laugh.

We still have Lewis Black, Patton Oswalt, and many other great comedians out there.

I've really been enjoying The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. He hasn't pulled out some of his great bits like new characters, actual items, or the masturbating bear but damn it they will show up!

CouchMonkey 2009-06-12 04:12:55 PM
I find that if Conan has a good crowd he does better that night. many of the joke are HORRIBLE but if the crowd is into it he plays it up a bit and is entertaining. Also some of the interviews were painful to watch. I actually stopped watching the Dane Cook one as he is even worse live than he is at one of his shows. Still though, Conan has had and still has my attention. Bring back Pimpbot 5000 and Masturbating Bear and you have a watcher for life.

I was having dinner at my folks house and we turned on Conan, after doing the same with Leno for many years. My father, a crusty old man, refused to believe that Conan had any merit, and would not shut up about it. He could not fathom why anyone thought his jokes were funny. This, coming from a man who feels he's in tune with pop culture and can adequately critique it. So, naturally, I was forced to remind the old man that he clearly did not get Conan's humor because it was pop culture.

Meanwhile, my Carlin loving mother, was laughing her ass off.

As much as i love me some masturbating bear and triumph.....for some reason I have a strange attraction to Vomiting Kermit.

Yeah, it was funny right up to the point where he started being a dick to the skinny blonde guy.

And that is my point about him: he does a funny skit and that drives the farker right into the ground.

btw, why is his hair a different color between the visits and the show?

Nope, orange vs. light brown is not the result of studio lighting.

And as light-weight as Leno can be, at least he isnt sophmoric like Conan.

You know, you consistently stand out as being one of the most unpleasant, bitter, generally disagreeable douchebags in a sea of unpleasant, bitter, generally disagreeable douchebags. And I'm betting you're actually proud of that.

I've gotta start recording that show. I haven't really watched Conan since I discovered Adult Swim, but this might change my mind. Sounds like he's got innovative comedy for that time slot.

What's wrong? Did I hurt your feelings with my opinions?

I take it you guys got out of high school in the past ten years where they taught you that you were precious little snowflakes whose self-esteem as more important that anything else in life.

You must be shocked, SHOCKED to learn that other people don't agree with everything you have say.

It must be tough to walk around all day in state of stunned bewilderment that people don't hold the same opinos as you do about oh, say, politics and humor and music...

Grow a set, ya losers.

And after that get some hair on your sac and man up because if you think I'm a douche bag what are you gonna do when you finally move of the basement and have a girlfriend or wife who tells you what to do or a boss that knows that you don't know everything.

You two are farking jokes and should be embarrassed at your lack of tolerance for other people's views.

I bet you each of tats, too, like maybe barbed wired around your bicept that shows how tough you are...

mfaby 2009-06-13 01:07:35 PM
And btw opinos = opinions
