The fact that "Hollaback Girl" was a top ten hit indicates that her output is more or less perfectly matched to her vapid audience. She needn't worry.

Also: angry god, etc.

I just read the lyrics to that song...

I weep for the future.

No Doubt was never that great anyway, but after Gwen did that hollaback bullshiat, they can all fall of the farking earth.

I don't care that she did it solo, the band failing to murder her before she did it leaves them all culpable.

Struggling to write songs? Perhaps her clothing is restricting the greative flow. She should remove most (if not all) of it immediately!

/I would gladly offer my assistance in this endeavour...

Stupid Guitar 2009-06-12 10:11:35 AM
Well, she seems to have had plenty of help "writing" her songs, she should just call Pharrell Williams or Linda Perry, they can knock one or two out of the park for her.

/honestly, I don't see what the problem is, unless she's having some sort of Barton Fink-esque crisis all of the sudden

"What You Waiting For" may have been more appropriate for this title than "Hollaback Girl".

"hollaback" does that mean to yell a reply at someone?

doctorwormwood 2009-06-12 10:39:30 AM
every word in that article reveals her for the shallow narrow minded twit that she is... she wants to write an album to make other musicians jealous??? She can't work with her band anymore because she can't operate outside some narrow vision of what her band is to her... what a moron.. She's one of the few artists Id like to punch in the face... Has been since she made the intelligent observation that a mosh pit is a bunch of dudes trying to rub against each other and pretend their not gay... play sports much moron?

Yeah, that was a pretty solid CD. Can't say I ever cared much for anything else No Doubt or her did. She was good in Sublime's "Saw Red" song, though.

/fist of an angry god, king of england, etc.

I don't know what a 'hollaback girl' is, but I have to imagine it's a foul, disease-ridden thing that wears too much makeup to cover up the fact that it's a 47-year-old fish dog.

PC LOAD LETTER [TotalFark] 2009-06-12 11:57:25 AM

At least she sings her bad songs live and without an autotuner.

That one Aerosmith song she wrote was great.

CrackedEgg 2009-06-12 12:26:40 PM
I always thought "Tragic Kingdom" was a really great album, almost like catching lightning in a bottle. "Return of Saturn" was alright, and "Rocksteady" was, well, it had a song mentioning that 'all the guys get the girls in the back,' so it's got that going for it, right?

Then that solo album, and Gwen Stefani comes out with that farking song. That, right there, ensured that I'll never buy another album she ever appears on. I don't care if it's got the cure for cancer on side two, I'm not buying it. Sorry, Gwen.

Going to see No Doubt tomorrow! Hoping there's none of her solo BS.

One of my friends actually did turn her down back in the day. Not to get it on but to go do something.
We were in college back then and he had heard of Bush waaaaaaaay before you started hearing them on the radio. He was actually kind of friends with Bush's guitar player Nigel. Bush and No Doubt were on tour together and played Bloomington one night. Since my buddy was friends with Nigel he got a backstage pass and an invitation to come hang out before the show. I don't remember any of the details but basically he was hanging out and waiting for Nigel when the lead singer from No Doubt comes by and asks if he has a car. He says yeah and apparently she asked if he wanted to go to the mall for a bit. He told her no thanks as he was waiting for Nigel. She seemed kind of confused that someone told her no and wondered off.
Not much of a story other than just laughing at the "fist of angry god" guys on here because I actually do know someone who told her to get lost once. Not trying to say he's some big stud or something either. Hell, he's a chicken farmer who used to do websites for extra cash.

Hate Tank 2009-06-12 01:00:09 PM
I like that song, it has a good beat and clearly enunciated lyrics. Not like that hack Bob Dylan. And it is WAY better than "Born in the USA".

Courtney Cox-Zucker [TotalFark] 2009-06-12 01:11:25 PM
Gwen Stefani's solo stuff confirmed what most of us knew all along. She was the "no" in "No Doubt."

mfaby 2009-06-12 01:15:12 PM
DNRTA but...

What people are forgetting is that their third album - the Saturn one (or was it Neptune?) was FULL of heart felt, deeply thought out lyrics and it farking TANKED.

So maybe mindless twaddle is what she's good at; 'Im just a girl' is still a fun song.

Then she whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said FRESH and there was dice in the mirror. If anything she could say that this cab was rare but she thought nah forget it "Yo homes to Bel Air!" She pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 And she yelled to the cabbie 'Yo homes smell ya later' She looked at her kingdom, she was finally there to sit on her throne as the Prince of Bel Air

Gwen is a great on-stage lead singer for a (pop/ska/alternative) rock band. Right up there with Dave Grohl and Scott Weiland.

I put on the greatest hits CD every now and then to mix it up, they're a solid band. But we all know Tony's the real brains in the band any way.

'Hit it with the fist of an angry god' folks would probably think twice if they saw her up close an personal like I have. Her face looks like it has already been hit with the fists of an angry meteor shower. Without the heavy makeup and camera lenses, she ain't that pretty.

Isn't she always saying this shiat? Seems like every time a no doubt or gwen solo record is in the works, we have to hear about how farking hard it is for her to write a song. It was even the farking subject of that 'what you waiting for' song and video. ENOUGH, GWEN! If you can't write a farking song, sit at home and don't write songs. WE DON'T CARE.
