I'm not surprised. She looks like an anal bandit. And it's probably nice imagine a girl who does anal being interested in doing said anal in mom's basement.

to her, I respond with a quote from Disturbed frontman David Draiman:
"This is not rocket science. Instead of spending all this money litigating against kids who are the people they're trying to sell things to in the first place, they have to learn how to effectively use the Internet. For the artists, my ass...I didn't ask them to protect me, and I don't want their protection."
and

"[I'm] Very positive about the internet, Napster. I think it's a tremendous tool for reaching many more people than we ever could without it. When you release music you want it to be heard by people. Artists really want to have their music heard. They want to have their creation heard by people. Nothing is going to do that better than Napster. I can't tell you how many kids have come up to me and said, 'I downloaded a couple of tunes off Napster and I went out and bought the album.' Or they say, 'I want to come see you play.' I don't really make money off of record sales anyway"

So Lily Allen, whoever the hell she is, can kiss my ass.

I thought it had to do with market saturation by a few owners in the radio industry forcing a scant handful of genres upon us, with even fewer of them playing new music. Those that do play new music are focused on selling advertising to their core markets of up and coming pseudo-professionals clawing their way up to middle management and struggling to make the mcmansion payment along with paying off their student loans, or the hip and swank older DINKS and empty-nesters who like their edgy soul music while they drive to Starbucks or Applebees as it makes them appear "cultured".

Radio has destroyed the music industry.

But what do I know, I just live in an area serviced by 4 radio stations owned by one company, and one additional radio station that's a simulcast of something an hour and a half away.

/on a good day I can pick up others on the FM dial sporadically if I leave the immediate Dingmans area

FTA: The music industry is run by a bunch of f**king idiots and if you're giving those people less money they are going to invest in bands that aren't very good.

Beatle_Matt [TotalFark] 2009-06-11 10:11:05 PM
The problem with the town I live in is that there are two clubs for live music.

No one goes to see live bands unless it's a cover band. So when there's no cover bands playing - they go to the Junction, listen to shiatty dance music, and try to pick up.

It's a whole new kind of failure...

Just admit that you're shallow and in it for the money, you're not fooling anyone for fark's sake you made a song about that the first single of your new album

I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don't care about clever I don't care about funny
I want loads of clothes and i want farkloads of diamonds
I heard people die while they are trying to find them

And i'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
Cuz everyone knows that's how you get famous
I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror
I'm on the right track yeah I'm on to a winner

Life's about film stars and less about mothers
It's all about fast cars concussing each other
But it doesn't matter cause I'm packing plastic
and that's what makes my life so farking fantastic

And I am a weapon of massive consumption
And its not my fault it's how I'm programmed to function
I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror
I'm on the right track yeah we're on to a winner

Forget about guns and forget ammunition
Cause I'm killing them all on my own little mission
Now I'm not a saint but I'm not a sinner
Now everything's cool as long as I'm gettin thinner

Seriously.

... no she really is just that vapid and shallow. If she was making it as some sort of clever satire, I'd agree it's good, but it's not. That's her second single from the last album.

Oh he treats me with respect
He says he loves me all the time
He calls me 15 times a day
He likes to make sure that I'm fine
You know I've never met a man
who's made me feel quite so secure
He's not like all them other boys
They're all so dumb and immature

There's just one thing
that's getting in the way
When we go up to bed
you're just no good
Its such a shame
I look into your eyes
I want to get to know you
And then you make this noise
and its apparent it's all over

It's not fair
And I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean
Oh you're supposed to care
But you never make me scream
You never make me scream

Oh it's not fair
And it's really not ok
It's really not ok
It's really not ok
Oh you're supposed to care
But all you do is take
Yeah all you do is take

Oh I lie here
in the wet patch
In the middle of the bed
I'm feeling pretty
damn hard done by
I spent ages giving head
Then I remember
all the nice things
that you ever said to me
Maybe I'm just overreacting
maybe you're the one for me

It's not fair
And I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean
Oh you're supposed to care
But you never make me scream
You never make me scream

Waaaah, he's like the perfect guy, everything I need but when it comes to sex it could be better I'm not going to talk to him about it I'll just moan instead and complain it's not faaaaaaair.

I get involved,
But I'm not advocating.
Got an opinion,
Yeah, you're well up for slating.

So you've got a prescription,
And that makes it legal.
I find the excuses,
Overwhelmingly feeble.

You go to the doctor,
You need pills to sleep in.
Well if you can convince him,
Then I guess that's not cheating.

So your daughter's depressed,
We'll get her straight on the prozac.
But little do you know,
She already takes crack.

Why can't we all,
All just be honest,
Admit to ourselves,
That everyone's on it.

From grown politicians,
To young adolescents,
Prescribing themselves,
Anti-depressants.

How can we start to tackle the problem,
If you don't put your hands up,
And admit that you're on them.

The kids are in danger,
They're all getting habits,
Because from what I can see,
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.

She's anything but subtle and clever.

A-fscking-men. Back when I was young, idealistic, and making music, the very thought that someone was listening to something I made was what drove me. We hosted our stuff on sites that kept track of who listened, and we watched those numbers like a hawk. We knew that our odds of ever making a penny on the music were damn near zero. It was the validation of knowing that you did good, and that others recognized it.

I wish I had enough talent to play The Blues in front of a live audience. I'd do it for free, just for the rush of having people enjoy what I played. Unfortunately, I don't have the talent so will never get that opportunity.

Good music is still out there. The thing is that you now have to go look for it. The corporate hacks that run the industry these days would not have taken a chance on Led farkin' Zepplin because they wouldn't have seen marketability.

I'm not a fan of illegal downloading myself, but I'd have to agree with you here. This argument is slightly on the "guh-uh-uh" side of things. Who in their right mind would want to give good money to "a bunch of f**cking idiots"?

Oh well, as someone who has been playing and writing music for the past 20 odd years, I've seen plenty of exploitation of artists at the hands of industry weasels. Now they're just being exploited by the people who "love" their music; i.e. illegal downloading. Nothing's changed.

Yeah, see, this is what bugs me.

I hear "Good music is out there, you just have to look for it" all the time. That's the point. In the '70s, you didn't HAVE to look for it. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rush, The Who etc. were on MAINSTREAM F*CKING RADIO. You could get an 8-minute song played on the radio, and often they'd play an entire album. Imagine that? Think of that happening nowadays.

Yes, I'll go looking for good music today, but that's because it's the only choice I have. I'm pissed about the fact that I HAVE to go underground in order to find anything worth f*cking listening to anymore. Used to be, decent music was played on the radio.

Well, look at it this way. Back in the 50's and early 60's, people had to go underground to find an alternative to the Fabians, Paul Anka's, and Leslie Gore's that dominated the mainstream. You have something people didn't have back then, THE INTERNET! Now get to searching out some crunchy jams!

I have never illegally downloaded music and I think it is wrong but I really can't blame people for doing so. If you put out a CD with 1 good song and 40 minutes of crap, you deserve it. In my opinion, you drew first blood by trying to scam your fans. Suck it up, go back in the studio and ggive us something from the heart, not the wallet.

That's a fact though. I knew a band who was trying to be signed and they would be told that a member of the band didn't have the "right look." In pop music, looks are everything.

Yeah, that's been going on ever since Pop music started to be marketed for teenagers. I don't think anyone believes Elvis was signed on his voice alone.

Yikes, man, you sound like you're at war with recording artists. I really don't think any of these acts that you think suck are actually trying to scam music buyers. I'm sure a majority of these musicians truly feel their music is worth your time and money.

I know you said you don't illegally download songs, but a lot of people who do use the same argument you just did. I just wish these people would at least be honest about it. I know in this day and age, most musicians and songwriters shouldn't realistically expect to make a living from what they love to do, but people shouldn't insult them daily with this nonsense that they're going to buy the whole album if they happen to like the couple songs they jacked, or everyone has to hit the road and sell farking t-shirts to make ends meet.

Like I said before, musicians getting ripped off is nothing new. Except now, it's the general public that does the exploiting. Yay, the power of the Internet!
