yeah yeah. so are mediocre washed up rock stars who want to cry that life's not fair.

sounds like sour grapes from someone who feels like Adam and the other Idols "cut in line" and took the shortcut to fame. While they spent decades trying to get rich and famous.
In the end all that matters is do you make good product? Does it sell? Do you have the draw to fill arenas?

For Rob Zombie to sit and criticize the careers of the kids who have sold far more records than he ever will is just sad.
Carrie Underwood alone has sold more records than you Rob.
maybe you just aren't that talented? or popular?
And maybe you just sound lame crying about it.
Don't like it? Go make a hit record then.

Submitter used the wrong type of brackets for adding to a quote.

Headline should read, "I'm sure Adam [Lambert]" etc.

(article may have also used the wrong bracket, but I can't access it).

Just pointing it out.

I'm not a zombie fan at all. You need to have an extra chromosome to enjoy the song "Dragula". But I seriously doubt Zombie gives 2 shiats about American Idol and he was just bullshiating with the interviewer. "What do you think about that one guy" BOOM. It's like the article writes its self.

I just re-read you post. Are you Trolling?

I didn't RTFA but except for an exception or 2, these Idol winners make an album or 2 and disappear into obscurity

why? Because they can't actually write a song and they have no distinct personality. 2 skills you might be able to develop with time but certainly not with overnight fame

so again, good singers: dime a dozen, and who needs them?

I doubt it's jealousy. The guy who wrote the article was probably like "Hey man how about that American Idol?"

It wasn't an interview it was informal talk. And Zombie is exactly right with what he's said.

American Idol and it's contestants can suck a big one. Show me someone who's won that contest that is still relevant and a viable act today.... Oh wait their fanbase shrinks after a few years and then they start touring as one of 5 support acts for some band that's not quite as shiatty as them.... Congrats you're a star.

Jim R 2009-06-11 10:29:05 AM
Lot of haters on this board... for the record, I'm with Rob Zombie on this. Idol has put out lots of talented singers, but they are all boring and bland with no distinct personalities.

I believe that even Adam farking Lambert doesn't believe he's suddenly an "idol", especially when he didn't win.

Very insightful of Mr Zombie to come up with this opinion, now after how many seasons?

This is the most intelligent thing I've heard from Rob Zombie and agree with him 100%.

He is not jelous, he is not whining, he's just telling it as he sees it and this time he has the added benefit of being right.

Barbigazi: I'm just going to say it, Adam Lambert is fat. All the glitter in the world isn't going to cover up his husky face.

Every time I see a picture of him he reminds me of the fat version of Elizabeth "Yes I WILL have mayonnaise on my aspirin" Taylor.

As a friend of mine said of a trick the morning after, "He has too much fat potential."

That headline worked better in my head when I read it in an aussie/brit kind of accent. Then I saw it was Rob Zombie saying it and it totally ruined it for me, even though I agree with what he says. He's not saying he can't sing, he's just saying he's not f*cking rock N' roll.

That's funny because Brian May has said the guy is extremely talented and he'd love to maybe collaborate, but NEVER said "I want to do an album and tour with this guy"

Queen is now typically known as Queen+ and they have never once even tried to replace Freddie, they have stated that they will never have a permanent singer.

Look at the collaboration recently, for a few years Paul Rodgers jumped in, toured with them, made a live album and studio album, now they've parted ways and that's that.

Brian May seems to adore Idol because it brings out some talent that may have never been seen before. But I'll agree with Zombie... you've gotta work for this shiat man, if you really want to be an entertainer you have to bust your balls, not just compete on a TV show and win.

Eddie Van Halen is a great guitarist, but he can't write a song to save his life, and because of that we are left with Van Halen. Lambert may be a master of the vocal craft, but if you can't write a nice original song, what good is it all for?

Fearofablankplanet 2009-06-11 10:56:06 AM
And you, sir, are not John Carpenter or Tobe Hooper.

Yes yes and more yes. Made myself sit through "The Devil's Rejects", mainly because of Roger Ebert's review and I was really trying hard to find anything redeeming about that movie besides the woman getting smashed by the semi scene. You see him trying to duplicate Hooper's shots from Texas Chainsaw what with the camera low to the ground on cut away shots but that's as close as he gets. He in no way comes anywhere near John Carpenter's suspense building ability or Hoopers seemingly "accidental" shocking scenes (referring to the girl on the meat hook scene). The shock all seems so setup and contrived. And as for the soundtrack, I just didn't get it. I didn't get the plot either, it went nowhere fast. And before you "House of a thousand piles of crap" fanboys get on me, yes, I understand it to be a continuation of that first piece of garbage. God how Zombie sucks in every way! And I love Zombies! I hope Brad Pitt keeps him far away from "World War Z".

By the way, I can't direct, write, sing or play music for shiat. Just to get that out of the way.

While I like some of Zombie's music, dude needs to stay away from the director's chair, his movies were awful.

Back on topic, I agree with Zombie on this one. Fame should be the result of working hard for it and putting in the time and effort to make a name for yourself, not something you get because a bunch of retards that can't tear themselves away from reality TV think you can sing.

He isn't against people becoming famous - he's saying people who go on shows like American Idol are more interested in becoming famous than being musicians.

It's the way it is now. They call it American Idol, not America's Next Great Musician.

Good singers are a dime a dozen nowadays, hell, bad singers get record deals just because they were on Disney shows. I doubt there will ever be a music scene like that of 30-40 years ago. Cause it's not about the music anymore, really.

Rickenbacker 2009-06-11 11:23:51 AM
American Idol is putting the nails in the coffin of music. Professional karaoke, nothing more. I could care less if an "artist" is "OMG HE'S SO CUTE SQUEAAAAALLLLL"! The music produced by AI singers is the musical equivalent of the bland diet for ulcer sufferers.

I like Adam Lambert and think he's a great singer. And I hope his level of success is more than anybody could have hoped.

I'm sure that makes me an inferior person, but I love it when people succeed. I'm comfortable enough with how my life has turned out to not have grief with someone else's success.

And just for the record, the music industry is full of stars who couldn't write their own song to save their life. If they didn't exist, Desmond Child would be a poor schmuck like everybody else.

Stay on your high horse - I like the weather down here much better.

Hobodeluxe: sounds like sour grapes from someone who feels like Adam and the other Idols "cut in line" and took the shortcut to fame. While they spent decades trying to get rich and famous.

Though I'm inclined to agree and I'm certainly surprised that anyone would ask for Rob Zombie's opinion on AI. I must say, the amount of defending of Adam is odd considering almost none of his supposed fans will give two shiats about him in a year's time.

For as much reverence as AI gets, it certainly has a pretty spotty track record: I'm convinced Kelly Clarkson is only still around because she was the winner of the first AI; Carrie Underwood is big in country music, which is a pretty easy genre to break into and retain a fairly loyal following; Clay Aiken is known less for his music and more for the, until recently, "Is he gay or not" rumors.

Not really impressed with Adam. Good vocalist, I guess. Though it kind of sounds like yet another Jeff Buckley knock-off.

The milenium generation is the most spoon-fed culture I have ever seen. They identify themselves with brands more than anyone before them. They will swallow anything a person with money will feed them. Look at our current music, movie, book landscape. They are borderline illiterate, thanks to texting and facebook. Watch your American Idol. Yeah!
