Alacritous [TotalFark] 2009-06-07 07:18:03 PM
the company came under fire for an editorial decision giving preferential placement to large, elite media outlets such as CNN and the BBC over independent news sources, such as WND, even if they are more recent, pertinent and exhaustive in their coverage.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Roook [TotalFark] 2009-06-07 07:25:59 PM
damn, when did the funny little google logos become 'serious internet business'? They going to jump all over Cracked for not making a silly cover commemorating it also?

I'd better put something in here so they don't jump all over me for not mentioning D-Day also.

Hooray D-Day!

there, where I'm safe

You know, for a group that cries that companies should be able to do whatever the hell they want, they sure seem to think that Google should bend to their every spoiled-ass whim.

Not that I care, but there's a search engine called Bing which had full coverage of the D-day anniversary.

might be nice to get away from the smothering Google. Pretty soon they will know all your medical records, and look inside your house if you don't have drapes.

They snubbed France. Shouldn't WND be happy?

They've done military things before. I know I've seen people that look like Marines crawling under barbed wire on that page before.

When I came to work that day, there wasn't any thing up celebrating D-day here either. Can I sue my work for this?

To be fair to google, most everyone in the test group vomited when they showed the 'Omaha Beach' logo.

For Americans every day is D-Day. Maybe because that's the last truly heroic this country did.

I can just see the hypocrisy during the bi-centennial celebration of D-Day off the coasts of the newly acquired colony of New America formerly known as Europe.

Google can do exactly as they please. And we are free to slap them around for it when we please. The First Amendment applies to all of us.

I knew I should have saved that image...

I saw a picture in a politics thread a couple of days ago. It was of one of those straw dispensers where you hit the lever at the bottom and a fresh straw comes out. This one had a shooped logo on it which read "Conservative Outrage".

It was nice, and I wish I had it, because it is perfectly appropriate here.

Google has a history of ignoring major American patriotic and religious holidays, while honoring Remembrance Day in Australia, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom, the Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, Halloween and other observances.

OMFG!!! A major global country doesn't pretend that the USA is the only country in the world! WHARRRRGARRRRBBBBLLLLLL!

Lots of things happen on every day of the year. D-Day was immensely important, but I never understood the wharrgarbl chest-beating obsession with it. My grandfather and most other d-day survivors I know would prefer not to talk about it, let alone get all bent out of shape because an intarweb search company decided to do something else this year.

Lee451 2009-06-07 11:50:13 PM
As the people at Google are "Generation Y" and after, we cannot expect them to understand or even care about the scarifices the brave fighting men of this country made so we could have freedom. Their education has taught them that only imperialistic tyrants actualy use warfare to keep their freedoms.

At least Obama was over there apologizing because the Allies/America won the WWII.

/If the Axis Powers had actually won, Michelle O would have been useful as a "comfort woman" for the Japanese.
//If the Axis Powers had won, Obama would be jockeying a camel and selling non-Muslims into slavery.
///If the Axis Powers had won, would Fark be called "Der Ficken"?

Nevermind. I've never actually gone to WND before, but when I followed the main page link and saw their top story was "Urgent Alert: How to Survive the Collapse of Civilization," I'm wondering why anyone takes them seriously to begin with.

HeartBurnKid 2009-06-07 11:52:33 PM
I'm shocked that they didn't push the fact that Tetris was created in the Soviet Union as indicating that Google is Communist.

After all, it'd fit in with their other WHARRGARBL.

comslave: Because saving the world for democracy is not nearly as important as inventing some stupid game.

CITIZEN! you must comply, present your papers and salute the flag! I don't see you saluting hard enough. You must be a commie, Off to the ghetto to you, as you are now on the black list!

And saving the world? Someone call France and England, I see they still have a king, and as far as I know, half of Asia still uses a monarchy system. I hear Africa is very democratic. If your party loses an election, they kill your family.

Pilot Kosmosa 2009-06-07 11:52:42 PM
I didn't cry when they didn't put up anything for Victory Day, you know the celebration in the country that actually defeated the Nazis instead of kicking back and waiting to see how the war turned out.

RoxtarRyan [TotalFark] 2009-06-07 11:53:21 PM
I agree with WND. When I went to search for a recipe for a great glaze for my baked chicken, I wanted to see thousands of dead soldiers, seamen, marines and airmen just laying around the text box. You know... To brighten my day.

Also, when 9/11 rolls around, I fully expect to see the Google logo on fire with planes smashing into it. Maybe people jumping from the top of the 'L' for the full effect. Maybe a caricature of Bush drilling into the 'E' for oil with a big 'ol grin on his face, while Cheney rapes the 'G'.

While we're at it, when the anniversary for Pearl Harbor comes up and my kids have to do research on the element carbon, I think it will be good and healthy for them to see a bunch of kamikaze Japs flying their planes into the Google logo, which has morphed into the ships at harbor. Of course, this ties into carbon because of all the black smoke, so they could be learnin while they be searchin!

D-day is one of those days where the state and its wars are glorified. People who worship the state get bent out of shape when others don't.

I think this clip from "The Americanization of Emily" explains things pretty well: Link (new window)
