As a fair skinned redhead who has had several very bad sunburns, works outdoors in the Mediterranean during the summers and has a tendency to forget sunscreen, not only did I already know this, but I think I can summarize my chances in two words: I'm farked.

/At least I keep a close watch for any strange moles etc.

Sounds like you could make a fortune writing a country song about it.

Not news. Lighter skin = more sunburns. More sunburns = increased risk of skin cancer.

Blondes have more cancer.

Blondes have more fun.

If my math isn't off, this means that cancer is fun. Sweet!

This is the Internet. Everything after "well" was too much info.

That's okay, they only need to live to 30. After that, I lose interest.

To channel gorgor for a moment...

I made the ex physically gag at a party we were at recently when I casually mentioned that my choad was infected with so much HPV that when I busted a nut jizz didn't fly, I just shot clumps of tumors.

Hey, you should get that mole checked out. I've read blondes are at a greater risk to get skin cancer.

Yeah, after what you said about blondes getting cancer...

GOOD THINKING!

A big ol THIS. Growing up in the red/blonde fair skinned group it took many times of forgetting sunscreen and an eventual bout of sun blisters to learn to wear spf 75 or long clothes outdoors.

/Easy fellas, male redhead here.
//I think I start getting new freckles within 10/20 minutes of being outside.
///Cue all the "you know anythign abouve spf X doesn't do anything extra trolls
//Wishes people would stop trying to tell me I won't get a tan with spf 75, I don't tan it's just burn -> peel -> repeat

This is news?

My skin is dark enough that despite being a lifeguard for 3 years, + lots of vacations in tropical env's I've never had sunburn in my life. AFAIK I'm immune. Some people insist "everyone gets sunburn", but from various conversations... seems to be only about 50% (at most) actually blister, burn, flake, turn red, or any indication of damage. Seems logical if you consider all the outdoor jobs virtually impossible to do if you burn easily. It's impossible that everyone burns.

That said, I still wear sunscreen as much as I can remember (which is pretty good now). Not burning is somewhat of a curse... you don't know when you've had too much exposure.

Couldn't imagine being a lifeguard and burning... how the fark would you be outside 8+ hrs a day 5+ hrs a week in the sun if you burn in 30 min? Yet there was always that one asshat who did it... and looked like a leopard with burnt flesh hanging off their back by the end of the summer. Nasty.

Perhaps someone should e-mail the creators of the study that concluded James Bond preferred brunettes over blondes from earlier today. This would be the nail in the coffin.

I could argue any Irish-skinned people like myself get into that category, red, blonde or brunette

\currently slightly red
\\and that's with sunscreen
\\\light brown hair

I'm a pale skinned redheaded male, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies as I read inside away from the daystar that burns me. It's probably one of those things that contributed to me being a nerd, since this way I almost never get a sunburn.

oukewldave 2009-06-07 10:22:27 PM
Blond hair here. I pretty much go for an early summer burn. After I get the base down, I can get decently tanned.

>>The research found that 40 per cent of Australians are three times more likely than average to develop melanoma.

Truly, you have a dizzying intellect...

Well, I have had blistering sunburns, I was a lifeguard for six years, I also have freckles on the upper part of my back, and I have a family history of the disease but I am a brunette. So I guess that means that I have a little bit of a chance of not being farked?

Oh sunscreen, how I wish I had worn you!

St. Spuzzum 2009-06-07 11:14:18 PM
Well damn. I have reddish blonde hair. And there's a history of skin cancer in my family. Guess I'm screwed.

I hate sunscreen, but I wear it.

viggo81 2009-06-07 11:21:03 PM
Pale + blond. I don't even have tan lines at this point I'm so paranoid about cancer.

The Crack Kid 2009-06-07 11:48:00 PM
My skins fairly dark (I'd fail the ol' Paper Bag test), and yet, since God hates me, I burn and burn BAD. Only person in my extended family who does.

Don't turn red, just start peeling and flaking. Sometimes I even get blisters, which is a lot of fun.

I'm really curious what that means for my skin cancer risk

/SPF 75 is my friend

It may be due to the fact that they are 10x more likely to be pale. This is the sole reason why I cannot move down to FL.... If I want my gf and future wife to live for a long time, I must not enter florida.

FLMountainMan 2009-06-08 10:27:31 AM
32yo, light brown hair, one squamous cell on my neck, one basal cell on my check, two more squamous on my cheek, and two more on my chest.
Something tells me I need to be roaming the forests of Northern Europe instead of bumming around Florida.
