So, it's like an honorary degree for being old?

HS diplomas really are useless nowadays.

Especially as it is from Chicago Public Schools.

I think it's sweet - she regrets not having the paper, and her family arranged it. She took enough coursework and had enough general experience to qualify as a high school graduate, I would think.

Over the following decades she moved to the suburb of Gurnee and had 15 children, 54 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Please don't reward stupidity.

And saying "times were different then" and "she left school to help her family" doesn't change the fact.

Does the recent grad have an onion on the belt?

I guess, but what's the point if they just give it to you?

this

You leave school to 'help your family' yet you keep shiatting them out like a farking assembly line? You don't need a hs diploma to figure out something like this.

Depends on the locale. In a lot of farming communities, more kids = more help that you don't have to pay. Same thing with the Depression- if there was a job, you went and grabbed it. My grandfather graduated at 20 for just that reason (should have been class of '34, was class of '36).

15 kids back before birth control didn't mean you was a moran, it meant you put out.

It's possible she was able to support that large of a family if the younger children were born when the older ones were able to work. As a previous poster put it, more kids = more workers = more income.

Having 15 children is only bad if you need social services or charity to help carry the burden, and it's possible that wasn't the case.

shut your whore mouth you failtard. that argument is old and as tired as this woman from TFA.

Who has to offset the cost of the insurance premiums for this woman and her kids when they have to go to the hospital? Other members. Part of the reason why health care is so expensive is because people have a ton of kids and employers have to cover the crotch droppings.

I would think you would be too embarrassed to actually bother to show up to the ceremony. I wouldn't want anyone to know I didn't have a high school diploma - and then my silly do-gooder family got me into national news for being handed the equivalent of a GED? No thank you.

Wow, a lot of stupid young farkers here.
Back in the days, women had a lot of kids because fertility was difficult. Many women struggled to get pregnant, and many mothers died from childbirth. On top of that, children were not expected to live long enough to see adulthood, so it was worth having a few backups. Children also made excellent free farmhands, back in the days before child labor laws made them useless money pits.

Of course, cityfolk children are less than useless, which is why it only makes sense to have 1-3 of them, and typically by accident.
