Great find, Subby. Love ZH.

I like some of the parody stuff out there. I think the album that this song was on from last year was awesome. The lyrics aren't just funny, the music is actually pretty awesome as well. This is the main reason I like Zimmers Hole a lot more than Dethklok. While Dethklok's lyrics can be pretty humorous, the instrumentation is somewhat dull to me. I can listen to Zimmers Hole multiple times in a week but I can't really enjoy Dethklok more than once every few months.

Hehe... Zimmers Hole is great, especially since Strapping Young Lad is no more. These guys are the next best thing.

oh man, that's awesome. a shmhc that i haven't heard of and can't immediately hate on. really well done video too. joke metal thread!
Crotchduster - Mammal Sauce, come for the weirdness, stay for the hilarious danzig and hetfield impersonations. not the best song off the album, i encourage people to check it out.
7000 Dying Rats - This Close and an inexplicable TV appearance of 7000 dying rats - strippers on ecstasy. they have a great song called "stop farking my sister" that's not on the intarwebs.
JudxJud - Fast Song. Acapella hardcore. high-larious. but the only link i can find online has a bunch of j-pop videos in the background. weird.
and i guess Macabre isn't technically a joke band, but can you take them seriously? the answer is no. Macabre - Vampire of Dusseldorf. catchy.

i've been blasting a lot of crazy grind recently. just got promoted to sous chef because our exec is leaving, and my life is insane right now, so it just makes sense.
Insect Warfare - Self Termination
Apartment 213 - Die Section
Crucial Unit - Columbus Fest is a celebration of genocide. awesome band, but even i admit that this is heavy-handed.
ugh... and now i have to get ready for work. godspeed, gentlemen.

satanicsantoku 2009-06-07 03:26:00 PM
oh man, how could i forget Absolute Steel - Beer Run. these guys are so over the top it's amazing... but they're totally not ironic or an inside joke. they're norwegian. go figure.

I've heard of Zimmers Hole before, but never actually heard them. That was pretty good. And also nearly the exact opposite of my submission.

Insect Warfare - Self Termination

Going to be honest. I actually enjoyed that. Except for the ultra-low gurgling vocals, but they weren't bad enough to keep me from liking the music. (Vio-Lence remains the only band to do that)

A small slice of my weekly listening:

Clutch - Strange Cousins From The West (Promo): It's basically the full album minus two songs... and it's goddamn phenomenal. I love Clutch, and they never disappoint me. Probably my album of the year.

Mortification - The Evil Addiction Killing Machine: I've mentioned my reasons for listening to a Christian metal band before (they were my introduction to metal) so I was happy to see they put out a new album this last week. While their last album was a return to their death metal roots, this new album is something completely different... the riffs border on punk in some spots. Still, an interesting listen once you get past teh cheesy album art and preachy lyrics.

Alestorm - Black Sails At Midnight: What can I say? I'm a sucker for pirate metal.

Speaking of joke bands that kick major ass:

Gwar - Penguin Attack

SPna15 2009-06-07 03:47:55 PM
groverXIII: A small slice of my weekly listening:

Oh! Allmost forgot mine. All Black/Thrash this week.

Desaster - Hellfire's Dominion: I beleive that Desaster is the original Black/Thrash band. While many other bands have surpassed these German's in the genre, Desaster still remains an enjoyable listen.

Urn - 666 Megatons: I just discovered this band, so I don't know much about them. But they are extremely good. Nothing fancy, just straightforward thrashing with elements of black metal thrown in.

Razor of Occam - Homage for Martyrs: Composed of some of the members of Destroyer 666, Razor of Occam sounds alot like them. They have the distinct solo style of D666, with some heavier riffing. Homage is a very good holdover until the new D666 album comes out later this year.

good music and all, but I just don't understand how a heavy metal drummer can be so fat. I have seen a couple fat ones here and there and it always surprises me because most are crackhead skinny.

A few things I've been listening to:

The Revenge Project - The Gate to My Soul: melodic death metal from Bulgaria. Influenced by Death, but pretty original at the same time.

Stormlord - Stormload: melodic blackened metal, with emphasis on the "melodic". Kinda reminds me of old Sear Bliss and Summoning.

Gonin-Ish - Muge No Hito: Japanese progressive metal with an awesome lead singer (she does most of the writing as well).

Oh, and Unreal Overflows, Dreaming Dead, and Hematovore...

loser_death_spiral 2009-06-07 05:02:45 PM
Oh, and back on topic, since no one's mentioned the original heavy metal parody band:

It's because they often drink the most booze.

but how do they not stroke out? Drummer is the most taxing position in a band, and being fat is just asking for the coronary explosion. Even drinking that heavily, the energy requirements should even out during the performance.

/maybe that is why they choke on vomit
//just not their vomit

Time for my recs, I suppose.

Gorod - Disavow your God - Who doesn't like Gorod? Their new album is amazing, a focused farking MASTERPIECE. Lots of goodness coming out of France these days. Check it out.

The Faceless - Prison Born - One of my favorites from Planetary Duality, which is at least 10x better than Akeldama (though Akeldama is still a good album in its own right), mostly due to non-boring breakdowns (and the fact that there are fewer of them). Great listen, and the riff from :25 to :38 is great.

After the Burial - Rareform - I know, it's deathcore, I know. The good thing? It's not generic farking deathcore. The breakdowns in here are imaginative, though boring at times. The biggest exception is the one 2:00 minutes(ish) into this songs. Also, it's heavy as fark. 8 string glory. They're about to re-release Rareform with their new vocalist (who is much, much better than this one).

Necrophagist - Stabwound - Great song, great band. Can't say much more than that. You'll like this.

I have been listening to this one non-stop for about a month now. brilliant album. I personally enjoy the very last track. However, this is the first album for years that I have really enjoyed the lead guitar. Its not over the top or masturbatory, it fits the music very well.

It was weird. Enjoyable, but weird. So I don't really know what I think about them. I also hate the sound of people singing in Japanese, so that's a big minus right there.

Yep, same here. I don't listen to it (as) much anymore, though I'll still give The Ancient Covenante, PD II, and Prison Born a listen a day most of the time. Programmers of a New Decline is my non-stop album at the moment.

And yeah, Michael Keene really does an amazing job of writing music that just goes well with everything else. He's honestly one of the best guitarists I've ever heard, I think. He just has something that lets him write really amazing music without being just plain TOO much. He's also just as good live, which amazes me considering he only uses 3 fingers.

ATB is exactly decent on any album they have out now, but IMO their new vocalist is so, so much better than their old one. My friend went to Summer Slaughter (I had to bail last moment :/) and got me a signed (yeah, I know, unnecessary for the story but I like to brag about things that don't matter) copy of Rareform, though, so I've only heard their new vocalist through some medium-quality recordings.

Since we're bragging about ATB: I know the (now former) singer and drummer. But as far as the singer (as heard on the youtube link) goes, ATB wasn't his best work. Nostalia definitely is. Can't wait to hear their new album.

Here's "Prisoner of War" (new window), Nostalia's most intricate guitar work. Grant's best vocal work can be heard throughout this album (called Flags Must Fall, recorded and produced in the guitarist's basement studio, if I recall correctly).

I'll repost this next Sunday night, since now I know there's a good place for this sort of stuff!
