I think Cheney should run in 2012.

The important thing is what Newt Gingrich and Liz Cheney think about this.

pwhp_67 2009-06-07 12:58:04 PM
I heard Newt might run in 2012. I hope he does.

I think the corpse of Lyndon Johnson could beat him...

Do Republicans really believe anyone with the family name "Bush" stands a ghost of a chance?

robmilmel: Do Republicans really believe anyone with the family name "Bush" stands a ghost of a chance?

Based on the article no, Palin beats him almost 3 to 1. And let's face it, she takes sucking to a whole new level in American politics.

Sid_6.7 [TotalFark] 2009-06-07 01:46:26 PM
If Huckabee and Palin are the best they've got...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It's also cute that the numbers are so close for so many. Good luck getting any sort of cohesion around the candidate.

I can only hope that Palin has surrounded herself with a pack of ditto heads that encourage her that she's perfect and can't possibly fail, so she can then tear her own party to ribbons.

I'm also surprised that Bobby Jindal's name didn't come up.

I hope to god Palin wins the nomination. Obama played the velvet glove with her last time, now I want to see the iron fist. If Hillary couldn't beat him, what chance does Sarah the Mooseslayer have?

Here, GOP, have some more rope. You sure you have enough?

Mordant [TotalFark] 2009-06-07 02:55:19 PM
Real conservatives who hate what the Republicans have become must be thrilled right now. Well, maybe screaming about the libs even louder will fix that problem. If not then maybe screaming about the libs will work.

and if all else fails they can try the last resort... screaming about the libs.

Gosling [TotalFark] 2009-06-07 02:56:24 PM
3% volunteered "no one". As in, allow Obama to run unopposed.

That hasn't been done since I want to say James Monroe.

I roundly dislike what he's done. Our budget is going to be a mess when he leaves office, but I digress.

I'll only say the GOP can do much worse -- which is not encouraging if you're a Republican.

eqtworld: It's going to be Palin.

There's no stopping it. And before you say it can't happen, remember why she is famous.

The oldest candidate for President in the history of the United States of America chose her to be President if he died.

She is the heir apparent right now, and she is working with professionals to clean up her image and fight for the nomination. She will probably be successful

'Probably' does not mean 'will'. And Step 1 to an image rehabilitation after getting embarrassed in a Presidential race is to get the hell out of the spotlight and let everyone forget why you suck. Palin is doing the opposite of this and failing at it.

You think they are too smart ?

What's funny is that the poll directly reflects "cult of personality" figures that you see trotted out on FoxNews regularly. Huckabee and Palin are always on camera, I think multiple times daily.

And they want to complain about liberals voting for the popular guy on our side, they're no different.

Everyone thought the GOP was dead in the late '70s. And then voila, REAGAN. FOR 8 f*cking years.

That's what they're banking on...don't underestimate them. They've definitely got enough idiots in pocket with the teabagging bullsh*t.

Any candidate from the Republicans will be a "fark you, you god-damn Democrats" candidate. Actual competence will be passed over for the chance to really piss off the Democrats.

They have become and will forever be the "F*CK YOU, HUMANITY" party.

Mike Huckabee, 22%

Sarah Palin, 21%

Huckabee/Palin in 2012!! Oh please, oh please, please...

Of course, a combined 43% only translates into like 75 people.

I don't know. Two viable competing ideologies are not how this country typically works -- going right back to the Federalists and Anti-Federalists.

I think we're in a state of flux with a realigning electorate. Presently, neither party really has a coherent message or vision. I don't really know where we're headed until a whole bunch of stuff stops looking like unmitigated failures.

Thus, I think it will take awhile for our typical ideologue/reactionary pattern to reemerge.

Gosling [TotalFark] 2009-06-07 03:22:42 PM

I'm sure Jeb Bush would make a fair candidate but the bush name is going to really hinder him as a 2012 candidate you know since W. and Daddy bush.

whidbey: They want another 1950s.

Neocons are pretty damn resistant to the 1950's. Most of those guys would have gone up for the communist witchhunts, BTW. Direct Trotsky connections and all.

DarnoKonrad: Presently, neither party really has a coherent message or vision.

Its the neoconservative-neoliberal economic paradigms that have collapsed. Obama has eshewed the neoliberal economic paradigm (to an extent) and he's gone with a more "realist" foreign paradigm.

Republicans nominated the longtime neocon supporter McCain who was stacked with neoliberal economic guys like Phil G.

For all the teleprompter whargarbl, the American people beleive that when President Obama sits down with a world leader, they will have a serious discussion.

Who believes that Palin would last ten seconds against the British Prime Minister, much less Vladimir Putin?

"Madame President, my country cannot possibly support an attack on Iran without conclusive proof of weapons production!"

"... I really feel like you're trying to put me on the spot here."

"Well... yes, actually, I am."

"Well, I'm not going to answer that "gotcha" question. Instead, I want to talk about real America where real Americans live."

Well, to be fair, the Democrats have done a damned fine job of covering most of the actionable playing field. The closest thing to a solid GOP position are the Democrat Blue Dogs.

Let's see... two religious fundamentalists, and one guy whose religion makes him verboten to the supporters of said religious fundamentalists.

From my experience, people either absolutely adore her or absolutely despise her. I haven't run into a lot of people who are lukewarm on her.

I think we're currently seeing anger. The whole "where's his birth certificate" thing was denial, and the cajoling etc. comes into the next stage (bargaining), followed by depression and then acceptance (I'm guessing around 2016 for this one).

Palin is incredibly paranoid and insecure. She wouldn't go with anyone who would challenge her unless it was forced on her and if that happened, her nominee would find a knife in their back within the first year.

Ill agree on the rightward shift of US politics put dems on the right of where they used to be.

Its also important to note the collapse of the GOP used paradigms neoconservatism and economic neoliberalism (yes clinton was into economic neoliberalism).

Huckabee and Romney have a shot at making a decent run and at least give the POTUS race some spark.

Palin gives it a good old shot of comedy.

Newt has the moral pedigree of a bowl of mucus, and the history of memorable horrible quotes and votes to make his nomination as bad as one could get.

Jeb has the misfortune of being GWB's brother.

The GOP needs new names with new ideas, like that fella from Utah. Huntsman is his name, unless I have someone else in my head and got the news headlines all mixed up.

Huntsman's out of the race. Obama shipped him off to China.
