And here in MA we saw 90 degree weather back in April. Few years back we had a blizzard in April.

Weather is screwy.

It's stupid to cry global warming at every freak heat wave, just like it's stupid to refute global warming at every freak snowstorm.

/figured I'd get in here before too much WHARRGARBL set in.

Listen, geniuses, this only adds to the data PROVING global warming. Global warming isn't just the gradual warming of the entire earth (which is happening) but erratic weather patterns, as well. And yes, this includes snow in June.

So would global cooling make it warmer most places?

"National Weather Service meteorologist Janine Vining in Bismarck says there were unofficial reports of a couple of inches of snow in Dickinson on Saturday."

But without Internet, telephones, or any real communications network, there's no way to know for sure. "And I sure as hell ain't driving to Dickinson to see snow," added Vining.

Don't you just KNOW that James Hansen is sitting around the table with other AGW buddies going,

"Come _on_ El Niño!
Come ON El Niño!
Daddy needs a Super El Niño!!"

And then someone comes in the room and lays down a map of ocean temps:

www.osdpd.noaa.gov

And James Hansen and friends all get ticked off and start throwing crap.

I view the current concerns about global warming and terrorism in similar lights. Both are concerns with valid points that we should work to prevent if we are somehow at fault (and in both cases I think our contribution to the problem is much less than many would believe, if any at all). Both are taken to extremes by politicians looking to gain more power by taxation and sacrifice of rights. Both are the subject of great fanfare in Internet forums like this where anyone can speak for/against/out- their-behind about the subject for any reason. And both are not likely to be the subject of fiery debates anytime soon.

This single event is proof of nothing. TFA said this kind of stuff isn't unheard of, just uncommon.

Now, if this becomes a much more frequently occurring phenomenon... then it'd add to the evidence for global warming. Until that happens, can all of the people in here who don't know a goddamn thing about statistics, climatology, or science in general just shut up?

Take the global warming denialism and nonsense to a more deserving thread, please.

Oh fark off GW/Al Gore fellatists. We have had erratic weather since the earth formed. What caused the little ice age in the 1700s and what caused the warm period a few hundred years prior to that when they were growing grapes in Greenland? Was it all the CO2 from the cars and factories?

I am all for cleaning up the air, but calling CO2 a pollutant is asinine. Without CO2 we all die, without enough of it we die. With too much, well plants grow faster.

Go ahead base your thinking on a flawed computer model that doesnt even account for sun energy and cry the sky is falling. The hockey stick graph from 98 was false. Everything else about it warming up has been manufactured or a natrual occurrence.farking city people. Cant tell whats going on because you cant see shiat. Worse than religious nutjobs who quote bible passages to prove their point.

I now am starting to hear about global cooling again. This was the fear 20 years ago when I was a teenager.

I also hear about how 60 Million years ago and 150 Million years ago, (might not remember the time frames perfectly), the earth had an ice age or had a global warming age.

People were not around then. Maybe the earth is just getting pissed again?

snow9999: I now am starting to hear about global cooling again. This was the fear 20 years ago when I was a teenager.

Actually, that was only a concern amongst a small minority of scientists back then. The majority of climatologists back then were worried about warming.

I am pretty sure they do account for the sun's irradiation, I mean they'd almost have to forecast solar min and maximums to properly establish a trend. ..

Retodd [TotalFark] 2009-06-07 03:25:11 PM
I know this may be a little too nuanced for the typical Fark IndependentTM, but it is possible that while the heavy concentration of CO2 in our atmosphere may have some positive attributes like faster growing trees and marshes, it DOES trap heat that would otherwise leave the Earth, and there is a lot more of it in our atmosphere today than their was before we started relying on fossil fuels to power our society.

1) More CO2 - more trees and marshes - more carbon sequestration
-AND-
2) More CO2 - more heat trapped - more eratic weather patterns

And given that we live in a highly urbanized world where trees do not have room to grow in the numbers needed to sequester all the extra CO2 we have emitted, we will be experiencing 2) a lot more.

I know this can be difficult for some of you ideologues to understand. You've got the world so neatly categorized into "good" and "evil" so you don't have to think too much and can enjoy a life unencumbered by all the areas in the middle that actually make up the world.
