Yes. Yes it is.

You're not stealing them. They are placed for your use. Leave the towels alone.

You can take the amenities. Just understand a maid is not an amenity.

Seriously? This is not a time sensitive issue unless you were at a hotel yesterday, constantly checking Fark to determine if you should or should not steal the sh*tty shampoo.

Just take whatever they'd have to throw out anyway when you leave. Shampoo, soaps, TV, etc.

The pens and paper pads are fair game, but they're pretty rare nowadays; I haven't stayed in a hotel that had them in quite a while (and I've stayed in a bunch of different levels of hotel). Soap isn't worth taking, the shampoo at some places might be worthwhile for my wife (we don't have to buy travel size stuff for her that way). Towels? Don't make me laugh; most are WAY too thin. Unless your home towels are just in rank ass awful shape, the hotel towels won't be anything that impresses you (and even then you can do better for $8 each at Walmart or Target).

I just want a clean room, decent channels on the TV, and (depending on the hotel in question) a decent continental breakfast in the morning with more variety than just cereal, bagels, and yogurt.

/Leaving tonight to stay in a hotel for a week, so I'm getting a kick out of this

I sent the maid back. It took about seven different boxes, but they should be able to fit her back together.

Gyrfalcon [TotalFark] 2009-06-07 04:42:20 PM
Why in god's name would you steal that crap? The shampoo has more oil than a waste disposal site, and the soap is about as useful as bathing with a credit card.

I know about you guys and the conditioner, but it's gonna be gone before you check out, so it's not really stealing.

Depends, are we talking shampoo, combs and an occasional towel, or are we stripping the cheesy all art and the tv?

When you wipe your dick on the drapes, think how many other people wiped their dicks there before you did.

Depends on where you stay. Nice hotels have some pretty sweet toiletries, etc. For my friend's wedding recently all of the amenities were Bath and Body Works (and in my favorite scent!). I was very tempted, but the friend I was sharing a room with had stowed all of them away in her bag before I overcame my moral qualms.

Next time I will not hesitate!

Srsly.

There was a series on BBC-America about a hotel. One of the episodes mentioned that guest were expected to steal things that weren't nailed sown - that's why the price is so high.

Anyone remember where Motel 6 and Motel 8 were $6 & $8 a night ? Now that $40 or higher - steal their shiat if you can use it !

lol... i had the same thought as well. I was trying to figure out what difference the article would have been with today's date stamp on it.

mama's_tasty_foods 2009-06-07 04:56:39 PM
I figure they don't care if I take soap and shampoo, but I have that at home and so never take it with me.

As for everything else in a hotel, including towels, bedding and furniture, I figure it's all encrusted in jizz and would light up like the Milky Way under a blue light- I don't -want- to take anything home from a hotel and just hope I don't inadvertently transport bedbugs.

Not all the toiletries from hotels is crap. I have a whole bag of Neutrogena shampoo, conditioner, soap and mouthwash that I took from a hotel when I stayed there for a week.

doesnt matter TSA is just going to steal her when you fly back

You: I had a god damn human being in my bag and she is now gone

TSA: sir are you sure you remember to pack your sex slave?

You: I never said sex slave

TSA: sir if you just go home and check to make sure your sex slave is still alive and you didnt pack her and bring her along this flight

You: MAID! SHE is a MAID not a sex slave and i picked her up in mexico

TSA: sir you are aware that if you wish to file a complaint you can fill out form 732 and place it in the shredder here and we will review your case at our earliest convience in 2037

My folks stayed at a place in London where the shampoo, etc., was supplied by Penhaligons (Link (new window))

Two royal warrants. You better believe they brought back every bottle they could get their grubby mitts on.

Egalitarian [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-06-07 05:17:38 PM
you can probably take the soap and whatnot without too much guilt, but would you want to??? It's a crapshoot what you'll find in the hotel bathroom, could be really nice moisturizing soap or a block of damn lye. Same with the shampoo & conditioner. Even the TP is highly variable.

\brings own toiletries
\\might consider bringing a roll of soft TP on next trip

Anyone have a DSM/PDR handy?

I've always wondered if there was a name for compulsively taking hotel pens. Nothing else, just the pens.

If you're that farking broke that you need to steal a miniature bottle of shampoo or a towel, maybe you shouldn't be staying in a hotel. Sit your cheap ass home or sleep in your car.

Memoryalpha 2009-06-07 05:25:14 PM
Having worked in the hotel industry I know that any consumable in the room is thrown out between stays by any reputable property. Feel free to stock up on all the crappy soaps/shampoos/conditioners you want. If you can stand it even collect the nasty coffee packets that come with the rooms of the lower end "business" properties. They cost the owner next to nothing and they're going to be thrown out anyway. Unless you're staying at a high end property you really don't want the towels, so leave them behind. Oh and of course if you really want nightmares take a portable uv lamp and have a look at the room under its light. That is true for any hotel, from a motel sex up to the biggest hiltion or intercontinental. Once you see the glow you will know... (and you'll wish you could get the image out of your head afterward)

I use 'em for minibottles that pass TSA. My travel kit consists of shampoo from nice hotels.

Take what ever you want, just understand that the Hotel is gonna hit your credit card for anything that they didn't expect you to take.

A few weeks ago, I saw a documentary about hotel cleaning practices. A hidden camera caught one maid wiping the drinking glasses (not plastic) with the same rag she just used to clean the vanity counter and room furniture. A few other problems were caught on the hidden camera as well.
