lol i've always liked this video. always wondered in the back of my mind if it would one day be greenlit on fark. good stuff subby.
this and "calling elvis". that's a good video too.

seems like by this time MK was making almost "carbon copies" of his previous hits... [you know, what worked / was successful the first time might work again kind of thing] [which doesn't really seem like MK's style but meh whatever.]

Money for Nothing ---> Heavy Fuel ---> Imelda
Walk of Life ---> The Bug ---> Cannibals

"on every street" is a pretty good album.
BUT...
and am i the only DS fan who doesn't like the "on the night" cd/dvd?
i mostly find that it's boring as F**k, except for the awesome guitar playing by MK. that's the only thing that saves it. MK looks incredibly bored half the time, and his vocals sound like he's half asleep. DS doesn't need 10 musicians on stage. and it certainly didn't need a pedal steel guitarist [no matter how good he was]. [that addition of the pedal steel guitar to songs ruined it for me... thank god it wasn't on "on every street" very much.]

I like Alchemy 1983 or the earlier gigs [ie. 1979 - 1981] way better than "on the night".

/another pet peeve: while mel collins' work on "two young lovers" and "going home" on 'alchemy' was great, they fit very well,
...... for F**k's sake, "sultans of swing" did NOT need a saxophone in it [by chris white] on the 1985/86 tours. i especially hate the end solo where's it's kind of supposed to be a double solo of guitar and saxophone and it just doesn't work.
that being said, the sax work by chris white on "romeo and juliet" at the mandela concert was wonderful.
// my 2 cents.

So...was that mis-spelling of 'Haevy Fuel' in the official vid, or is that someone's editing 'prowess'?.

I never saw this until now. Thanks, Subby!

Not my favorite DS song, but entertaining enough.

I finally got around to seeing MK last year in Charlotte. Absolutely mind-blowing. He's that awesome. He gets the fancy notes on his blue guitar.

but does he have the antidote for the.... blues?

//"one world" ftw, is underrated.
sounds like it has Tony Levin on bass... do you know if that is that true?

Third_Uncle_Eno: and am i the only DS fan who doesn't like the "on the night" cd/dvd?

On the Night had its bright spots, but you can tell that DS was nearing the end. You could tell the MK was getting very bored with songs like Sultan (which you can still tell from his solo performances). I don't think that he likes playing this song anymore. He always seems to be into the more atmospheric songs like Brothers and Hill Farmer Blues and seems to put a little more effort into these performances.

In this vein, I really enjoyed the Private Invesigations, You and Your Friend and Brothers, but Sultans, Money for Nothing, and Walk of Life seemed canned. The steel guitar also had no place in these songs, although I really like it in You and Your Friend.

However, what blew me away was his version of Local Hero (new window), which I have to argue is my favorite guitar piece ever put out by Knopfler.
