As them how many believe in an invisible sky wizard creating damage on earth to only those they identify as not being holy or devout or chosen ?

Its not like you're cherry picking the best and brightest here.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2009-06-06 10:43:25 AM
To be fair, they do at least think its a secret.

MuslimStill?

He's trying to convert the whole country to Islam.

He sent me an email from Al*Qaeda[nospam-﹫-backwards]esuohetihw*gov asking me to join him at the mosque.

Hender [TotalFark] 2009-06-06 10:54:47 AM
In other news, 11% of Americans are morons. More, if you add on the people who insist he was born in Kenya. NOTE: the "secret Muslim" and birthers are not in the same circle of the Venn Diagram of idiots.

ne2d [TotalFark] 2009-06-06 10:56:21 AM
It's simple logic, really:

A) If a person wishes to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim, then he would publicly profess to being a Christian

B) Obama publicly professes to being a Christian

Therefore, Obama wishes to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim.

brigid_fitch [TotalFark] 2009-06-06 11:00:12 AM
I guess that 11% is the fringier element of the fringe?

006andahalf 2009-06-06 11:21:40 AM
That's about expected. 11% is a z-score a little above -2, so we're talking about folks with an IQ range of about 67 and below.

Call me cynical, but 11 percent of Americans can't be that stupid. I mean, they can't. I refuse to believe it.

...thanks...still no cure for cancer, right?

ne2d: Therefore, Obama wishes to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim.

Bullshait, he just spent a week loudly and proudly proclaiming his Muslimhood. He's not a *secret* Muslim :P

/Would it really matter, REALLY?!
//Unless he's a blood drinking Cannibal Satan Worshiper, his religion really shouldn't be a political issue imho.

11% is about half the people who still support Bush and his policies.

elchip [TotalFark] 2009-06-06 11:28:53 AM
16 percent of Americans speculate that secretly planted explosives, not burning passenger jets, were the real reason the massive twin towers of the World Trade Center collapsed.
I wonder how much overlap there is between the 11% and the 16%.

I'm sure it's non-zero... you have the extremist libertarians, Ron Paul fanatics, etc., who think 9/11 was an inside job and think Obama was born in Kenya and/or is a secret Muslim.

It probably the same 11% of Americans who think Jews have horns.

At the same time, the same 11% also believe that Obama is a godless commie.

You're cynical. I know at least three people who believe it.

And I'm in a reliably, firmly blue state.

And I'm not even in the redneckiest corner of it.

I dunno...

I thought it was all nonsense but after his speech? I'm not so sure.

When he starts talking about his 'Muslim roots' after threatening
people who mentioned them during the campaign I think there might
- and I do stress 'might'- be something to it.

After Israel is turned into radioactive dust and Barry does nothing cuz he's on the golf course or drinking tableside made margaritas of the finest ingredients because that's how he rolls (as quoted in the Chi Trib) then we will know.

And then it will be to late...

Falcc 2009-06-06 11:35:49 AM
There need to be programs we can put these people in. Somewhere out of the general populous where they can still contribute somehow. I've got a retarded uncle who manages a simple assembly line job every day and he can't even speak or dress himself. These people can actually respond to phone polls! They could be hitting things with hammers for society right now.

Xaneidolon [TotalFark] 2009-06-06 11:36:08 AM
Only 11%? That's not bad. I think more people believe the earth is flat or that the sun revolves around the earth.

Seriously, when you're approaching single digits in polling, you've more or less won. Absolutely insignificant.

dervish16108 2009-06-06 11:36:33 AM
FTA: another 6% refused to answer.

another 6% believe President Obama is a secret Muslim, but are too embarrassed to admit it openly?

I'm guessing this is about the same percentage that thought we were on the wrong side of WWI and WWII. Love to see some stats from that era....

Satanic_Hamster: but 11 percent of Americans can't be that stupid

Why not? If half the population is below average, and half the below average group is below average, and half the below below average group is below average...eventually you'll get to these people.

Or maybe he is a secret Muslim and they're smarter than the rest of us.

Lumi 2009-06-06 11:37:15 AM
Then again, NTTAWWT. Why on earth would someone's religion be a bad thing? I thought having religion was considered good in a politician.

Well, these people that believe he's a sekrit muslin do also think that Islam originated in 800 A.D. forseeing the advent of the USA nearly 1k years in the future and that the Koran and all of Islam's precepts were developed in preparation to hate and destroy the USA.

So I guess they have a point. If you're crazy enough to think that a religion was developed to be pre-emptively devoted to destroying you personally, I guess thinking someone's a member of that religion would be bad.

Why do we care what the crazies think again? Other than they're stupid, mean, and dangerous. Oh. That's why.

On a side note, it was mentioned that 11% of people are also complete and utter farking morans.

Cognitive dissonance, it's a conservative's bread and butter.

Taxes? We hate taxes, government should get out of our lives.

Gays? I hate gays, government should be the arbitres of personal morality.

YAY, government for security! BOO, governemnt for making us pay for that security!

11% is a fringe. Seriously. You can find that small of a number for anything. You could probably take a poll about whether people believe that there are Eiffel Tower-shaped aliens that eat elephant brains and use broccoli as currency and I wouldn't be THAT surprised if you got 11%. A delusional fringe is always a given.

See, the effort you put into typing that could easily have been channeled into food tasting for some paranoid rich guy, or working as a crash test dummy for car manufacturers, or checking to make sure a landmine isn't still active. Something vaguely practical.

Why is the government not stepping up and giving these people the opportunities they deserve?

And that's the problem with living in a homoegeneous community.

Live in a heterogeneous community, and you grow to hate those different from you FOR GOOD REASONS.

Hate the Mexican immigrants in Pilsen because their teenage kids sit on your car when hanging out at night and scratch gang signs into the hood with a knife.

Hate the Puerto Ricans in Humboldt Park because they litter the streets with pipa wrappers and other garbage.

Hate the gays for coming into said neighborhoods and making them too expensive to live in.

Hate the "actors" for being shiatty waiters, because they're all waiters.

Hate the Indians and shadier Thai for running filthy restaurants swarming with cockroaches.

Hate the Muslims for...really, there wasn't anything to hate the Muslims for, unless you lived straight across the street from one of their call-to-prayer speakers booming five times a day.

shocker66s: Even though he acts more "Christ-like" than most of our other presidents, I don't think he actually believes in Christianity. If anything he is a closet atheist.

I agree, actually.

I also don't think most politicians give a flying fark about religion except to cajole the dumb voters to think that the politician in question is "one of them". See McCain.

Random Reality Check 2009-06-06 11:45:40 AM
Anyone know what the percentage of Americans is that still believe Saddam was behind 9/11?

In 2003, we find that 70% believed that Saddam was behind 9/11 with that many believing this assertion had been proven.

In 2005, a Harris poll found that 41% of U.S. adults believe that Saddam Hussein had "strong links to Al Qaeda" and that 24% of all adults believe that "several of the hijackers who attacked the United States on September 11 were Iraqis."

In 2007, a Newsweek poll found that, 41% of Americans answered 'Yes' to the question "Do you think Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq was directly involved in planning, financing, or carrying out the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001?". Still another poll conducted in 2007, by CBS/New York Times found, 33% said they believe Saddam was personally involved in the 9/11 attacks.

Based on this information, I suppose we should be thrilled that ONLY 11% believe the crap they heard (and possibly misunderstood) based on who you ask.

Dick Cheney said this week that he does not believe Saddam Hussein was involved in the planning or execution of the September 11, 2001, attacks and I am at a loss as to identifying where these Americans came to believe that Saddam had anything to do with 9/11. Anyone know?
