I wouldn't laugh. Apparently this whole ethernet thing is p-r-e-t-t-y important.

Also, I'm going to the theatre tonight to see this new movie called "The Empire Strikes Back" and then the arcade to play some new game called Pacman.

There you go again, making fun of Norm Coleman for something he didn't say.

Norm Coleman knows what the internet is, thank you very much. What he's referring to is the ethernet, an underground group of social clubs where Minnesota Republicans smother each other with ether-soaked rags, and decide questions of policy and who amongst them will have the support of the party.

Seriously, you think Michelle Bachmann was born like that?

Marcus Aurelius [TotalFark] 2009-06-05 06:41:43 PM
He'd be a perfect running mate for Sarah Palin.

Sounds like somebody's been sucking too much ether.

I'm pretty sure that Al Franken, like George W. Bush, got the drugs out of his system when George Herbert Walker Bush was President. Seat the poor SOB already. He's done enough stand-up for one lifetime in smokey, dark clubs and freak-shows. He deserves a crack at the Big Tent.

It's only a matter of time before America elects a meth-head to public office.

No.

Make that meth-whore.

If you want to stay one step ahead of politics in the satire business, you have to aim low. Aim for your toes and you're pointed in the right direction.

It's like hunting elephants.

First you dig a hole.

Then you put some peas in it.

When the elephant comes out for a pea, you tell it that it is the symbol of Republican Party, and it bitterly cries itself to death.

The bitter tears float the elephant and the peas out of the hole so you don't have to do so much work.

Maybe he means wrapping ethernet cords around your neck and genitals? I hear it's all the rage and Republicans would do well to keep up with pop culture.

While Norm Coleman, who is currently fighting for his seat back in the U.S. Senate, tried to make some good points about conservatives being more aggressive in the online world through social networking and blogs, he showed his true knowledge of all things digitial by calling the internet "the ethernet."

Norm, it's not the medium, it's the message. Until the hard-liners get that, they'll never bridge the gap in youth voting.

That would be incorrect.

This is ethernet:

www-unix.ecs.umass.edu

This is also (original) ethernet:

upload.wikimedia.org

Neither is twisted pair or fiber optic.

Ethernet exists on top of a variety of physical layers, including wireless.

They still think Obama was elected because he was Black.

This is going to take a long long time for them to figure out.

Is ethernet cable like phone cable, except with more wires and larger ends? Like what I have running between my office computer and router?

While I agree with your point, the notion that Norm is some sort of hard-right pol is just way off.

Were it not for his genuine Pro-Life (or at least anti-Roe) views, he'd probably still be a Democrat. He was run out of the party for that one sin.

By some miracle he was re-elected as St. Paul Mayor after becoming a Republican (voters saw his results turning that city around and rewarded him with a win) and would have won as Governor if it werent for the Perot type voters that put that chuckle-head Ventura into office.

Norms going to lose this one but will probably have a future in local Minnesota politics. Pawlenty just anounced he will not be running for re election as Governor.

He openly said he didnt want a non executive position before bieng pushed by Ws gang to run for congress.

So look for him to try again for Minnesota Gov.

Gosling [TotalFark] 2009-06-05 08:50:18 PM
No, wait, I'm thinking of Pawlenty. My mistake.

Coleman probably has an RNC job waiting for him.

jonnyh: Ethernet exists on top of a variety of physical layers, including wireless.

Wi-Fi is not Ethernet. Both are somewhat similar link layer protocols. The Ethernet standard specifies kinds of cables other than twisted pair and optical (like the ancient ones you posted), but not for use over wireless. You might be able to use the Ethernet protocol over a wireless channel, but that isn't Wi-Fi, and would be a poor choice compared to Wi-Fi (primarily due to error handling).

I'm pretty sure the Republican Party is still struggling with Arcnet.

Assuming that they're not busy marveling at that wonderful Mr. Morse's ingenious new device.
