What? At the time, a white guy doing a black act to a nationwide audience was something.

My mother told me stories about when she was little and how scandalous it was.

was this the one where they [famously?] kept the camera shot above his girating hips?

Wow how terribly.....lame.

I didn't realize Elvis danced like a white boy.

If you don't understand this stuff in context, and don't understand what Elvis meant to pop culture and the impact he had on everyone who followed him, then you don't know dick about rock history -- or modern American history, for that matter.

Yes, I know he was not the first rockabilly artist, and maybe not even the "best", but he was motherfarking Elvis, and he changed the world.

Overrated? Lol.

Chuck Berry is better.

To say that Elvis is overrated as a monumental figure of American cultural history is to open your mouth and prove yourself an idiot.

Any farkers feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this was the performance that sparked the whole "filming above the waist" thing.

I am not POSITIVE on that though.

/feel free to slap me into my place if you know.

I believe that was Ed Sullivan (where he serenaded an actual hound dog).

I'm not a huge Elvis fan/defender, but the guy had an AMAZING voice. Listen to something like "Surrender" where he's all over the chart - the control and range of his voice are epic. He (like Sammy Davis Jr, another singer I think had the same ability) made incredibly complex phrases sound simple.

If Farkers can shiat on the Beatles, they can shiat on Elvis.

Obviously you have never heard him sing live, he had an amazing voice and this was before they filtered your voice to hell with technology like they do with these shiatty singers today.

Yes, he was. At filming peeing females.

Chuck berry was ok but dont act like he had half the singing voice elvis had, he could play a little bit.

Actually it was the Steve Allen show where he serenaded the dog. Allen apparently hated rock n roll and did it to mock Elvis.

Boy, he might as well have stuck a microphone in front of his tiny Elvis, cause that was what was really singing.

I'm not a fan, but that boy could work an audience.

Jackie Wilson made a comment that many black singers were greatly influenced by Elivs' stage presence. Watching that video and seeing later James Brown concerts it is pretty obvious that is the case.

Elvis grew up poor in the South. Of course he would be influenced by the prominent music of the time (gospel and "black" rhythm-based music). He wasn't Pat Boone exploiting racism to benefit financially, Elvis was (music-wise) exactly what he appeared to be.

Oh, I have no doubt farkers can shiat on anyone and anything. It's by turns sickening and incredibly impressive.

Quick: name 5 people who single-handedly changed the world of popular music in America in the 20th century.

Couldn't do it, could you? At least not very accurately. And you couldn't do it without naming Elvis Presley.

Overrated? Not even close. But thanks for your input anyway, you musical ignoramus you.
