Am I supposed to be taken aback by this? I thought it was the most obvious thing in the motherlicking world. I mean, did anyone really believe Bowie was a space alien? Or that Arthur Brown was the God of Hellfire?

It's gotta be tough for the "extreme artists" these days, when even kids from Oskaloosa have seen that stuff and find it boring.

I used to be pretty into Manson, but didn't even know he had a new album until a couple days ago. Nothing against him and I still listen to his stuff once in a while, I guess I'm just out of the loop. I don't have very high expectations, but there were a couple songs I liked on the last one, so we'll see.

Only good when put to a Dragon Age: Origins trailer, imo.

Meh, I thought it set some poor expectations for the game. Anyone expecting a hack and slash is going to be sorely disappointed.

However, in Bowling for Columbine, he made more sense in his patois than anyone else presented.

Manson always seemed like a pretty smart guy when he wasn't trying his hardest to play up his shtick. Haven't been able to listen to any of his stuff post-Holy Wood though.

no he said obvious bullshiat that anyone with half a brain could say. even by listening to his voice in that farkin scene, you can hear the bullshiat. like when some asshole you know is trying to sound smart and string things together JUST luckily enough not to have people realize he's such an idiot that they should probly be him up or throw things at him.

not to say he's not smart. well, I'm not saying he is, but in that scene of the movie, he sounded like he was really proud of coming up with something anybody that wasn't on the news could have. in seconds.

I felt it was setting the attitude of the game, which is adult/mature, and set during a war.

I think it's obvious why: you can say whatever you want about Manson, but the guy is a marketing genius. He took his love of shock rock and elements of other musical genres (goth, metal, industrial), threw it all into a blender, and put it into shopping malls. It's sort of like Tarantino with independent film: I like his work (well, some of it, anyway), but he's not really doing anything that someone else didn't already do better. It's just the combination of the elements and marketing them as "new" and "cool" that's different.

He has a lot in common with Madonna.

he was interviewed on a local radio station a few years back.
94.9 with halloran.
i only listened to such interview to see how far he'd sulk and use the terms 'i feel' while trying to explain his choices or opinions on the mudane crap a dj would ask him about.

i don't know how far into the interview my radio played, but i reached my limit shortly after five minutes and stabbed my eardrums with chopsticks i happened to have handy and listened to 'rush' via my molotov headphones.

Mechanical Animals was genius. Even now looking back on it and disliking quite a bit of it's lyrical content, it's still one of the best sounding and produced albums of the 90's. I think t was the last time the man created anything original.

As someone who met MM in the early 90s backstage at a NIN concert, I'm getting a kick out of this.
He actually seemed very nice, and said the guys in NIN were all crazy.

Architecture Of Aggression: no he said obvious bullshiat that anyone with half a brain could say.

But THEY didn't, and HE did. Common sense isn't actually that common, sadly. He actually is a pretty smart guy in comparison to most of the turnips in the entertainment industry, and the calm, articulate manner in which he presents common sense during interviews is part of why I respect his cleverness -- his measured delivery makes him seem more rational and intelligent, even when the content offers nothing groundbreaking. He knows exactly what to say to elicit the response that he wants, and I respect the guy for being so easily able to manipulate the rubes.

I can't remember any of the details since it was over a decade ago but I do remember reading some music website back when all the stupid protests about how he was the devil were going on. What I can remember of the details, however, was that the big christian group that started the whole thing about how evil he was received a big chunk of their funding from the same parent company that owned MM's record label. Coincidence? Some how I doubt it.
I also remember that I didn't go see him when he played my town (at the time it was Evansville, IN which at one time had the leading suicide rate in the nation) but I did go to the protests as an amused spectator. Watching the fundy's argue with the goth kiddies was hilarious. What I really thought was funny was some local church pooled their money and bought a bunch of tickets to his concert so that other people couldn't. The show wasn't a sellout so all they did was just give him more money for playing their town.

I saw MM as the supporting band to Danzig back in the day. Great show. Funny side note: the opening band was a little known band called Korn - they were throwing demo tapes into the crowd after they finished.

MM hung out for a bit by the back door after the show, just bs'ing with some fans. Cool vibe - no one was acting stupid, so he hung out and talked to everyone, signed autographs. I heard that he later showed up at the local underage club (since most of his fans were high school kids that couldn't get into the bars). Same thing - he was just hanging out.

To the people claiming that Manson isn't 'smart', check out the youtube videos of him on Politically Correct or giving out interviews [pre 2002], he's not bad at all. I wouldn't go as far as saying he's the smartest guy in the room, but he certainly isn't the dumbest.

Since Trent stopped doing drugs, his music has gone progressively better [exception to With Teeth album, but everything after- perfecto!]
And Manson? Just getting worse and worse and worse since Mechanical Animals.

I'm gonna see NIN tonight in concert, so I'm also getting a kick out of these replies.

May I also just add that Manson is 40.

I don't want to be that guy ... but, I'd say he's too OLD for this shiat.
The fishnet armsleeves, makeup and coloured contact lenses are a young-man's game. You can still be dark AND a grownup.

Does Satan really like metal though? You'd figure the dude will go after a more widespread audience. For example, adult contemporary rock. There's nothing more evil in my mind than Don Henley.

Who really wants to be surrounded by a bunch of greasy haired, pimply faced metal fans in a burning lake of fire for all eternity, anyway?

Howabout Satan in Gangsta Rap?
I mean, those guys lyrics are all about beating women, gunslinging, and living like a thug.

Metal is more like "I'm having an excellent time partying with middle-class white citizens"
