The fact that Mitch Hedberg isnt number one is still a testament to how underrated he always was and always will be.

//Id still pick CK or Oswalt over Chappelle.
///Dane Cook shouldnt be on that list at all.

Howie Spankowitz [TotalFark] 2009-05-31 12:33:30 PM
The list about the most influential...not the best, most original or funniest. And I think they nailed it.

I might have flip-flopped Mitch Hedberg and Dane Cook with the Original Kings of Comedy, though. I can't tell you how many bad Mitch Hedberg and Dane Cook impressions I see on a nightly basis in the shows I do around L.A.

It's really depressing.

Stand up comedy is mostly dead. And I say that as a stand up comic.

I am a huge comedy fan, huge.. and I have to wonder with a flop of an unfunny show that Sarah has, and the fact that there aren't more than.. err. 2 "cringe" style female comedians out there (or female comedians with something close to her style).. she's not influential.

I love my cringe/gallows/sexually filthy humor..
Hello Jim "lil yimmy" Norton.

Hello Jim "lil yimmy" Norton.

I think they "needed" to include a female comic on their list. However, most of the female comics I see these days aren't as much influenced by Sarah Silverman as they are by the male comics on the list. A lot of the female comics I see around LA are still doing the stereotypical "dating in LA is hard" and "men and women are different" or "I may look like a good girl...tee hee...but...f*ck c*nt pussy cock felch shock shock shock" material.

Notable exceptions are those like Natasha Leggerro, Joy Gohring, Lizzy Cooperman and a few others.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2009-05-31 01:43:32 PM
Jimmy Pardo needs to be more famous.

Saborlas [TotalFark] 2009-05-31 02:50:53 PM
I find it amusing that they actually put Louis C.K. and Dane Cook on the same list... they're using the same material. Louis is just funnier. Of course, that might be because he's the one who originally came up with the jokes.

I understand she rubs people the wrong way, and she DOES often rely too heavily on the "I'm the cute chick who says crude things" schtick, but I like her. And it's not just the crudity, either--for instance, Chelsea Handler employs the same schtick, but she leaves me COMPLETELY cold. And Lisa Lampanelli is, hmmm...sometimes she's funny, but mostly I just find her kind of crass.

Oh, and yeah, her show is kinda meh.

awfulperson [TotalFark] 2009-05-31 03:04:22 PM
Oh, and as far as comedic influence goes, the only ones who deserve to be on that list are Louis CK, Patton Oswalt, Mitch Hedberg, and Dave Chappelle.

There should also be an honorable mention for Jim Norton, Jeffrey Wright, Brian Posehn, and yes, Kathy Griffin. Lots of people hate her, but no one's as funny off-the-cuff as she is--very sharp. And no one puts out material like she does. I'd also mention Maria Bamford, but she REALLY needs some new f*cking material. A LOT.

GEORGE CARLIN

Yes, he was a grumpy old man in the 2000's, but still.

Influential.

Like Stalin or Hitler.

Pertifly 2009-05-31 03:34:40 PM
*yawn* What have the "original kings of comedy" influenced that was worth anything? Haven't seen Attell anywhere in about 5 years.

Dawg47 2009-05-31 03:35:43 PM
Stanhope sucks. That is all.

GonzoNihilist 2009-05-31 03:35:45 PM
I was listening to Mitch this morning so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

What does a guy have to do to get Dane Cook's mouth permanently disabled so he can't do "comedy"?

i say he will always be quite influential, even posthumously

How about running him over with a 1996 Chevy Caprice?

Shadow Blasko 2009-05-31 03:40:01 PM
No Eddie Izzard? The man sells out every venue he *wants* to play, anywhere, anytime.

List is lame without the Izzard

/Dane Cook has not had an original thought in his life
//Mitch was a tool. Never found him funny. Maybe its just the fact that I had tolerate my sisters stoner friends for 10 years, and that humor just grates on me. I thought Stephen Wright was great, but Mitch just never did anything for me.

imho George Carlin is the king of comedey. Everyone else is just immitating him.

Your post was a million times funnier than anything the listed comedy-people ever said {excepting Attell and Sarah. I dig Them}

This. Gaffigan needs to be on the list.

That would be effective, if somewhat excessive. Maybe he could have his face mauled in a tragic bear attack?

1.- Get a wrench
2.- Hide the wrench
3.- Get close enough
4.- ???
5.- PROFIT

Seriously, though, I've laughed once or twice at Cook's acts. He's not that bad. He's no genius, either, just a product of our times, like all of us.

CK, Stanhope, Oswalt -- FTW

Attell -- from what I've seen, a one-trick smartass

Cable Guy -- okay, I admit it, he's got some stupid, funny standup

Silverman -- meh at best, mostly really annoying

Chappelle -- I get him, but he doesn't make me laugh

Hedburg -- about the same, but his distracted delivery got in the way of my enjoying his humor

Kings -- Bernie Mac is (was) the funniest of the bunch, IMHO; should be listed alone. RIP, funny man.

Cook -- DIAF

Pertifly: *yawn* What have the "original kings of comedy" influenced that was worth anything?

Still wondering how they came up with that name "Original Kings of Comedy". Yeah, there was nobody before you who had a larger impact on the comedy landscape.

FarkAssMaximus 2009-05-31 03:43:58 PM
I either don't know who these people are or I hate them. (Except for Chappelle)

Can we get a sequel to Half-baked already? May I suggest the title Fully Stoned?

Hibno 2009-05-31 03:44:10 PM
I love Mitch Hedberg with all of my heart. His jokes were so funny and he had a style all his own.

Unitl every farking hack in the world decided to rip it off. Oooo, look at me. I'm so clever and funny because I stand on the stage and say a bunch of unrelated jokes in a monotone voice, except I am holding a guitar in my hands while I do it.

OldRod 2009-05-31 03:44:48 PM
No Richard Pryor?

No George Carlin?

No Lenny Bruce?

Fail!! Ask a lot of comics in the 70s and 80s who they were influenced by and I'm betting at least one of those names would come up.

santadog [TotalFark] 2009-05-31 03:45:39 PM
Ok, so Bill was dead by 2000.

Oh, wait... I just realized they were talking about the 2000s.

I am teh fail!

But Carlin should still fit...

Dane Cook should never be on a "best of" anything list.

For female comics, I've always like Maria Bamford. She's really unique.

And Ron White is the only "blue-collar" comic that's actually funny.

Shadow Blasko 2009-05-31 03:46:53 PM
Would also like to mention the following in my undying admiration of Izzard:

1) He works without a script. He's dyslexic and writing it down doesn't help. This is often proven by the fact that;
1a) He can riff off of a heckler for 20 minutes. Stuff you will not hear if you buy the cd of that show. In any of 5 languages! I saw some guy heckle him in Columbus OH in French, and they went off on each other in French, German, and "Olde English". It was amazing. His improv is every bit as polished as his expected material.

2) He's a tech geek. He broke out his iphone in the middle of a show to pull up wikipedia to check his facts while doing a bit on an ancient battle. Then he was like .. "WTF .. I am in the middle of the city, and there is no signal? Whats with this town?"

3) He's an action transvestite, who works in or out of "dress" and it just does not matter. Its just him, not a shtick.

Despite being an (obvious) Izzard fan, I don't consider him influential.

Keen-witted and extremely funny, yes, but not influential.

Yeah, I don't get why people think Gaffigan is funny at all.

I have coworkers that bust out laughing when someone says "Hot Pockets". I heard the routine. Not funny.

Gaffigan and his fans remind me of that episode of Cheers where Cliff Claven attempted stand-up comedy, and Lilith was the only one that thought he was funny.

No offense intended -- comedy appreciation isn't a contest -- I just don't get it.

tatum 2009-05-31 03:47:39 PM
Dane Cook is definitely influential. He influenced me to never listen to Dane Cook again.

MAYORBOB 2009-05-31 03:48:03 PM
What, no Carlos Mencia? After all, he's stolen material from everyone else on the list.

Ikimasen 2009-05-31 03:48:04 PM
Louis CK continually bores me. He seems smart, his comedy situations are good, but his jokes tend to lack punch. Maybe it's in the delivery, but he never really gets me going.

Stanhope, I mean, I'm no big fan, it seems like every time I hear him it's some "So here I am ears deep in this chick's pussy, right?" kinda stuff, but it seems that other standup comics love him, totally love his material and delivery and all of it. So as influence goes, yeah, he belongs.

I do love Mitch Hedberg, and Dave Attell's Comedy Central special was faaaantastic.

And I don't know if it means anything (as per the list), but Patton Oswalt said that Brian Regan is the best standup alive today.
