When I was a cigarette smoker, I would pointedly not have one as I drove past the Phillip Morris plant in Richmond. Now that I'm an ex-smoker, I'm tempted to light one up today. What the hell is wrong with me?

NYPete31 2009-05-31 04:52:47 PM
I was smoking when I read the headline. Tobacco even.

I think I'll smoke a cigarette right now. I'm half tempted to go do it in a public place, because they just made that illegal here.

smoking a cigarette right now so im really getting a kick. . . .

I quit smoking in September, but I am truly tempted to start up again just so these farking busybodies stay away from me.

SeamusFerrell 2009-05-31 04:56:46 PM
Well I screwed that up to all hell then. I bought an eight ounce tin of tobacco, 400 tubes, and a new tube injector this morning. While I was there I also bought a case of beer, two bottles of wine, and a fifth of Scots. Alcohol is still OK, right?

mofomisfit 2009-05-31 04:57:06 PM
I'm embarrassed that I coincidentally chose today to quit.

I've never smoked, but I am tired of this Obama and Hillary shiat of deciding what we can smoke, if we can eat fatty foods or sugary drinks. fark them.

skinink 2009-05-31 04:58:57 PM

It should be "World Governments tell Big Tobacco to Fark Off" Day. I don't blame the tobacco companies or the smokers. If everyone really wanted to end deaths caused by or related to smoking, the gov't could outlaw smoking today.

But they see smokers as a source of easy revenue, so why stop it? That was really my motivation to finally quit. I got tired of giving the government free money (and I do realize I'm saying my health was secondary). It still was tough to kick the habit; good luck to those of you who try and try again to stop the habit.

Haha, me too. I have the patches, but I didn't coordinate having my last smoke before bed, so I bought one more pack and I'm going to quit tomorrow.

You smokers make me laugh. Oral tobacco is the future. Five times the nicotine and I do it on public transport and at work. Really don't recommend sleeping with it; although worst that can happen is you choke or have a brown streak down your mug.

Wasn't even aware of this day until now, and it should be a breeze because i quit about 8 months ago now and it's going fine. Was no easy task because i had smoked like a chimney for about 13 years but i don't even think of them anymore. Did it cold turkey, too. Because i'm just that hardcore.

I still hate how these groups like the WHO and FDA completely fail to protect consumers from the long list of deadly chemicals that are added to tobacco by the companies, and turn around and blame the victims for smoking them.

Seriously, what the fark guys? That stuff doesn't appear in the plant naturally. Do your job.

I've got the patches and I did have it all coordinated, so my last cigarette was at 3:00 am last night and the patch went on about a half hour later, right before I passed out. I know I'm not tweaking nearly as bad as I would if I wasn't on the patch but it's not pleasant. Good luck to you.

I'm trying to quit since I can't afford to continue anymore. But at the same time, I'm not funding SCHIP, so some child out there might not get health insurance. So see, I'm at a catch-22: save my wallet or save a kid?

Why use a .22 when you could use a 12 gauge? Forget cigarettes. I'm going out and buying a can of Copenhagen. The knock you on your ass buzz I hear so much about has got to be better than the non-buzz I got the times I've smoked cigarettes.

Patches suck. I used to use them for my 21 hour flights to and from Asia. Uh, I still badly wanted to light up.

Should they put huge pictures of horribly smoggy, dirty cities with people coughing on the doors and windows of motor vehicles that don't run on unicorn breath and solar power? Do people not know that they are unhealthy and a health risk? Is there any reason to believe that this will be an effective deterrent?

A month and a week without a cig as of Tuesday, and almost 2 weeks without nicotine (used the lozenges).

I always have really trippy dreams whenever I kick a habit.

Good luck to you too. This is my second try and it's very difficult. Just remember: there is NO such thing as "just one cigarette," especially if you're rewarding yourself for quitting (sounds stupid, but that's what got me last time).

rhiannon [TotalFark] 2009-05-31 05:07:46 PM
Warning pictures on cigarette and other tobacco packs have helped smokers kick the habit and prevented others from becoming addicted, WHO said.

Anyone ever met a person who saw the labelling, threw the pack in the garbage in horror and quit for life?

dmike 2009-05-31 05:11:33 PM
I'm usually down to 1 or 2 a day unless I'm out drinking and partying but I'll make it a point to smoke more today.

Somehow I don't think you two would be singing the same tune of if today was "World Abortion Day".

Worst that can happen? Having your jaw cut off or dying from cancer. It's still extremely bad for you. Though I used to enjoy it myself. Nice dip of Copenhagen after a meal was great.

But at least the oral cancer doesn't affect anyone but you. So no one can biatch about second-hand smoke.

Ikimasen 2009-05-31 05:14:12 PM

The world can suck my balls....I'm going to light up a La Aurora tonight.

FTFA:

Cigarette packages should include images of sickness and suffering caused by tobacco, along with written warnings, the World Health Organization said Friday, in advance of today's "World No Tobacco Day" initiative.

Why stop there? How about putting pics of drunk driving victims on bottles of liquor and cases of beer?

kroonermanblack 2009-05-31 05:16:42 PM
Never used any tobacco product.

But I support the right to.

All of these 'the truth' ads and 'no tobacco day' farkbills make me want to buy a carton and smoke it just to piss on them.

I'm waiting for MADD to finally sieze the innertia that's going against everything else and make Alcohol illegal.

SeamusFerrell 2009-05-31 05:17:17 PM
dmike: I'm usually down to 1 or 2 a day unless I'm out drinking and partying but I'll make it a point to smoke more today.

Alcohol is the primary reason why I never quit smoking. If you are drunk, you NEED to smoke. And if you are the stereotypical alcoholic Irishman like I am, you are often drunk.

merkey88 2009-05-31 05:18:35 PM
Had a cig last night at 4am. I think that's close enough.
