A number of great musicians have come out of Akron, Ohio, and Quine is certainly one of them. Too bad he isn't better known.

I read that as Voivod and was quite confused for a moment.

Cool guy, was a practicing tax lawyer then switched to collaborate with folks like Richard Hell & the Voidoids, Lou Reed (notably on The Blue Mask), Brian Eno (on Nerve Net), John Zorn, Ikue Mori, Marc Ribot, Marianne Faithfull (Strange Weather), Lloyd Cole, Tom Waits (Rain Dogs), Matthew Sweet, Odds and Jody Harris (Thanks Wikipedia)

Hell, Reed, Eno, Waits and Faithfull - some seminal shiat right there...

Yeah, me too, and then I realized that the guy from Voivod had died a few years ago too. Great musicians gotta stop doing that.

Got to see Quine play with Lou on the Blue Mask tour, that was quite a treat.

YES!! Wake up! Robert Quine had nothing to do to with Voivod! He was cool!

/this video doesn't show off Quine nearly enough.

Brilliant guy, a totally "out of the box" guitarist. His guitar interplay with Richard Lloyd on Matthew Sweet's Girlfriend made that record what it is. From what I understand was also universally liked by everyone who knew him. Apparently he was distraught over his wife's passing. Very sad still.

What was that about Voivod?

I dunno, but I have never been quoted so much in a Fark thread before. I almost feel famous.

his "coney island baby" is still one of my very favourite albums of his [except for the song "kicks" which is pretty bad].
other fav's of mine: "berlin", "transformer", "street hassle", "metal machine music", "take no prisoners", "new sensations", "songs for drella" [w/ john cale], "new york", "live nyc 1972"
