I don't really like pop music...but this was pretty cool!

/I wonder how long it took to edit it.

Too many stations by me have switched to a "Playing all the hits of today!" format. It sucks. I have 2 stations left and both have very limited range--WRAT 95.9 (Belmar based & covers 1/2 of Monmouth & Ocean counties) & WMMR 93.3 (WMMR has a big Philly range, but I'm too far east & am just on the fringe). Thank God for Alt Nation on XM.

I clicked the link expecting something rather lame, and was very pleasantly surprised. This was excellent mashup work both musically and with video. That took a lot of work, and ended up with a pretty catchy tune to boot.

This video would be good for end-of-the-year events (like my kid's prom tonight)....

I thought that implied 25 youtube hits in the span of 5 minutes.

tailormadebassist 2009-05-30 10:47:44 AM
The fact that Coldplay underlined the whole thing is kinda interesting though. I guess their music is like rap...pretty much interchangeable. Take the music from on rap song, put lyrics from other rap song. ANOTHER HIT!

Pretty awesome though. If it wasn't for Chris Martin, Coldplay has some pretty decent music.

Just be warned that you better like the same five seconds of Viva La Vida being played over and over again.

dionysusaur 2009-05-30 10:57:25 AM
I'll call that borderline brilliant.

I really liked this Dave Brubeck v. Radiohead one, too (new window)

Yeah: I don't. Pop crap mashup = mass suck.

I don't know any of those songs.

I'm a big fan of mashups and glitch, like Girl Talk, but I'm not a huge fan of songs like this. Technically it was pretty good, but musically, it sounded like a 5 minute intro to a song. After a minute, I wondered when the song was going to start, I clicked around a bit, and found it never really happened. Meh.

That was pretty cool. Never saw it before.

1 minute in and the level of suck was just too much.

Auto-tune + Coldplay for 5 minutes = Fail.

Zombie Eater 2009-05-30 01:00:21 PM
Are all of those songs in the same goddamned key?! Might've heard time compression once or twice, but I don't think any pitch correction was used to make them fit.

mofomisfit 2009-05-30 01:05:12 PM
Some of my favorites:

Black Beatles

Low Dog

Passenger Fever

December 4th, Oh What A Night (all pop)

Not every mashup is gold, by any means but they can be fun as hell.

mofomisfit 2009-05-30 01:07:05 PM
That was some of the worst punctuation ever.

HANGOVER BAD!

Herunar 2009-05-30 01:08:06 PM
Impressive editing, terrible results. The Coldplay repeating in the background and the occasion interruptions by Leona Lewis ruins it.

I'm a music snob and hate popular music, but that was pretty creative.

Christ, go outside, will ya?

... this is a repeat from the end of 2008. It's now pushing June 2009.

And it's pretty bad. I make shiatty speedcore mashups for the amusement of myself and a friend, I have the sense not to post something so lame for all to see.

To quote most people in a Fark music thread -
'I hate things because they are popular!'

/It was well done, not my style, but enjoyable
//Also heard this in 2008

I meant every goddamn singer in their original song uses auto-tune, it's like a joke now, I honestly wonder if any singer can actually sing these days.

That wasn't bad, but it wasn't as creative as I'd hope.

Theres a guy who does mashups using youtube-videos as the sample-material.

His name is Kutiman
Link

That was awesome. I wish I could do that.

Kutiman is brilliant. Why those videos never got the buzz of some of the mediocre crap the internet goes crazy over is just baffling to me.

Holy shiat, is that what top-40 sounds like nowadays?

I've missed nothing.

That was like picking the corn kernels out of a turd, and using them to make something that was actually pretty good.

I am not a music snob and usually like some of the more mainstream songs of the last 15 years and that sounded like complete garbage. I listened to it for about 30 seconds and I now need to go smoke a joint because I have a headache. I guess I just can't appreciate something that sounds like psychological sound toture. It reminds me of the noises they were piping in when the branch davidians were holed up. We could use this song as an alternative to waterboarding.fail

It's hard to tell any more. Pitch correction algorithms are really good these days. I'd bet most of those snippets were crowbarred into key with Melodyne or similar.

It all sounds like Joe Satriani to me.

I ran across DJ Earworm (new window) a few months ago, and I've been blown away by a lot of the stuff I've heard there. Check out his other tracks, including one that uses Dolly Parton's bluegrass cover of "Stairway to Heaven" as the main track.
