Well it lasted one episode....well half an episode since FOX cut it in half and expanded American Idol to fill the rest of the hour.

Without Bill or Geezer, Black Sabbath wouldn't be Black Sabbath either. It was pretty stupid of Tony to try and patent the name.

You know, just last night I saw the new ad with Ozzy hawking some new phone and I said to myself, "Oh how the mighty have fallen."

Can you imagine Ozzy selling anything beyond metal in let's say 1975?

Saw Heaven and Hell last year in Buffalo
Saw Ozzy at Ozzfest a few years back at Darien Lake.

As much as Ozzy has done for the metal genre Ronnie James Dio is a MUCH better vocalist. And if I'm not mistaked didn't Ozzy really patent his name AFTER he split with Black Sabbath?

/Mob Rules
//Sign of the Southern Cross
///Die Young.
\All much better songs than what Ozzy ever wrote. I will enjoy your comments but I will not respond until you bite the head off a dove.

halo_of_flies 2009-05-29 05:13:25 PM
Ozzy has been out of Sabbath more than in Sabbath for most of their career as a band, hasn't he?

strangeguitar 2009-05-29 05:22:47 PM
Ozzy hasn't put out anything remotely good since No Rest for the Wicked. That was only because of Zakk's guitar work. Tony should have sole ownership of the name.
I disagree in the strongest possible way that there is no Sabbath w/o Ozzy. The Dio years, while different, is incredibly good and lasting. I'm also one of the few that thinks some of the stuff with Tony Martin is quite good. Now that I think about it, the Born Again album with Ian is really great as well.

Orgasmatron138 2009-05-29 05:33:11 PM
I'm a BS fan going back several years. It's just sad to see old men behaving like this.

I'm glad Sharon seems to have kept Ozzy from killling himself several times over while they've been married, but god she's a c**t.

BoneStorm 2009-05-29 05:55:44 PM
Sharon and Ozzy made out fine on that variety show thing. Six episodes were taped months ago, they got paid for them already and have said they don't want to do any more. Fox is just saving them for later.

Listen to the most recent Howard Stern interview with them, it's really good and informative :)

...another correction:

TERRY "GEEZER" BUTLER is more "Sabbath" than either of them.

He was the one who was originally inspired by fantasy and the occult and wished to interject those themes into the band.

He came up with the idea of naming the band "Black Sabbath" from an old Hammer film.

He wrote almost all the music and lyrics.

Him and Bill must be the ones with the most integrity in that band.

Tony made the stupid decision to fire Ozzy in 79.
Tony made the stupid decision to fire Dio in 82.
Ozzy is smart enough to marry a tough ass business biatch who can do all the dirty work and keep him breathing.

Sorry Tony,too many blunders.

And a correction to your correction: Hammer Films had nothing whatsoever to do with any aspect of either the filming or distribution of "Black Sabbath".

American International Pictures "handled" the picture in America. (decoded: "they treated it in a manner akin to how penitentiary inmates treat mother-killing pedophiles".)

OZZY IS NOT BLACK SABBATH. HE WAS A HIRED HAND. YES THEY WERE POPULAR WHEN HE WAS IN THE BAND, BUT HE DIDN'T WRITE shiat. THE ONLY MONEY OZZY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN FROM BLACK SABBATH IS THE BARE MINIMUM ROYALTIES FROM ALBUM SALES THAT HE APPEARED ON AND ANY MONEY THAT WAS MADE ON TOUR.

That's funny. Last I checked Tommy wrote all the music, Geezer (almost) all the lyrics and Ozzy is the stick of gum stuck under their shoe who's incapable of doing anything except sing the guitar riff. Note. for. note. on. every. song.

karmachameleon 2009-05-29 07:47:50 PM
Tony tried to patent the name and claim 100% ownership. That was a mistake, and Ozzy deserves his fair share. I don't think that's 50%, but this is a legit lawsuit.

I don't see how anyone can deny that, it's pretty simple really.

Do you like Black Sabbath? I've been a big Ozzy Osbourne fan ever since the release of their 1976 album, Technical Ecstasy. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Never Say Die where Ozzy's presence became more apparent. I think was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Iommi, Butler and Ward. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to War Pigs. In this song, Ozzy Osbourne addresses the problems of abusive political authority. Suicide Solution is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Ozzy Osbourne's solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little.

Adebisi 2009-05-29 08:21:34 PM
Sabbath Reunion tour in '99 was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.

Ozzy in '08 was one of the worst concerts I've ever been to.

Heaven and Hell concerts are somewhere in the middle, but a bit closer to the top than to the bottom.

Tony kept the Sabbath name alive when he should've retired it years earlier.

Remember this atrocity?

www.headbanger.us

Nevertheless, if anyone deserves the patent on the name, it's Tony.

Ozzy was Black Sabbath about as much as Axl was Guns N' Roses.

Same here. I went to the Pittsburgh show to see Pantera and Deftones (who canceled due to their equipment getting stolen). All I knew of Sabbath was what I'd heard on the radio so I wasn't too pumped about them. I was so wrong! They blew Pantera out of the water and within the next year I owned every one of their CD's. Iommi is a god!

Well, to be fair, that one was intended to be a Tony Iommi solo album. The label demanded they put the Sabbath name on it.

This Tony Iommi solo album is really freaking good though (and sadly out of print).

Oh, and concerning the article, I found this interesting:

The Manhattan federal court suit also charges that Osbourne's "signature lead vocals" are largely responsible for the band's "extraordinary success," noting that its popularity plummeted during his absence from 1980 through 1996.

Heaven And Hell actually sold BETTER than Technical Ecstasy or Never Say Die. I want to say that Mob Rules did as well, but I'm not certain.

This is all Sharon's doing. She is very much Don Arden's daughter. This is just like how she robbed Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake, claiming their were only session artists on Ozzy's first album, not band members entitled to royalties, and then dropped them from the remixed version of the album once it was clear that she was full of shiat.

zappaisfrank [TotalFark] 2009-05-29 11:09:43 PM
I was wondering how soon this was going to happen. Once they got back with Dio I knew it was only a matter of time before something like this would crop up.

Or, should I say, once they got back with Dio and had it work out! Ozzy's just pissed because Tony and Geezer don't want to be his backing band for another Ozzfest tour! They're fine with sticking with Heaven And Hell and really don't need Ozzy, so this is his way to keep his name in the papers.

Sad, really. I'm glad I got to see the original lineup on the three Ozzfest tours they did since 2001.

You will get NOTHING but scorn here by admitting you like "Technical Ecstasy" and "Never Say Die"

Those two tragically underrated records are universally despised.

(funny though, when I mention "Backstreet Kids" "Hard Road" and "Air Dance" etc... nobody has ever heard of those songs)

Technical Ecstasy is hit and miss.
