well, I can't say i disagree with anything on the list.

Ehhh. A few of those I'd consider not bad but just throwaway pop stuff. Nickelback and Toby Keith can go to hell, though.

Look it up. You will not thank me

This list is worthless without Hanson's UmmBop. Those girls were the worst thing to come out of the 90s.

Agreed on all counts. That Toby Keith song is horrendous.

Cant argue with the list, though extremely disappointed not to see Proud to be an American by Lee Greenwood.

I remember the German version of Barbie Girl cracking me up when I first heard it. Not brave enough to check again, though.

Nemo's Brother 2009-05-29 12:36:59 PM
I don't think Rico Suave belongs there. Sure it held moved Hispanics back a decade or two, but it was no more annoying than Ice Ice Baby, Informer, or Jump. Just stupid pop music that is dumber than usual so it is kind of funny.

If you like Pina Colodas, any song by Color Me Badd and Breakfast at Tiffany's are worse.

Speaking of which, I'd nominate pretty much anything by H-Blockx

Creed is always on these lists. They're not any worse than Styx or Journey, etc. I guess they're hated so much because they were so huge for a while. They're better than Nickelback, IMHO.

It's interesting that "Lady in Red" is on there. I always thought it was decent for a chick song. A few weeks ago, my wife told me she really hated it.

Madonna's remake of "American Pie" is on here? They need Sheryl Crow's remake of "Sweet Child O' Mine" too.

"Disco Duck" is supposed to be bad, it's a novelty disco record!

"We Built This City" is deeply hated, too. I guess because it's the point when hippies sold out and became yuppies. I think that's hilarious.

Marisyana 2009-05-29 12:46:41 PM
I've never gotten the hate for "We Built This City." "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" was just as big a hit for Starship and a far bigger piece of crap. Grace Slick looks like she's going to strangle kittens, Mickey Thomas or her agent in that video, it's so obvious she hates the song.

1derful 2009-05-29 12:48:13 PM
The Four Seasons Don't Think Twice is inarguably the worst song in history. It is the only one I can think of that takes a song written by a horrible singer, makes the vocals sound worse, and becomes a bigger hit.

Hau Ruck [TotalFark] 2009-05-29 12:48:42 PM
Wow. I'm guessing 'Christmas Shoes' isn't at number 1 because most people (including me) never heard it until now. Wow.

downstairs [TotalFark] 2009-05-29 12:48:56 PM
Crank Dat (Soulja Boy) isn't a bad song, just simple. Not every song can be a deep thinker, ya know.

And I hate how most lists like this are completely overcome by Recency Effect. Yeah, I get that you remember more of what happened in the past few years, and your childhood, etc. But do some research.

"We Built This City" will be known forever as a horrible song.

No one is going to remember 15 of the other 19 songs on here for anything in a decade.

Speedofdarkness [TotalFark] 2009-05-29 12:48:59 PM
Nickelback: you poor, poor coonts.

This made me laugh.

stuhayes2010 [TotalFark] 2009-05-29 12:49:08 PM
Come one, Lady in Red is a great song. List does great except for that song.

Love, love me do.
You know I love you,
I'll always be true,
So please, love me do.
Whoa, love me do.

Someone to love,
Somebody new.
Someone to love,
Someone like you.

Love, love me do.
You know I love you,
I'll always be true,
So please, love me do.
Whoa, love me do.

But this list is pretty spot on...

Marisyana: We Built This City

Because its the worst of everything.

The lyrics are so horrible cringe-worthy, just reading them would sober you up after a night of heavy drinking.

The music itself is a terrible attempt by a washed up hippie band at mimicking one of the other worst musical trends: 80's pop.

The fact that its the skeleton of a very important rock band completely ruining their legend.

The video is an disjointed explosion of every bad cliche/trend from the era.

TeddyRooseveltsMustache [TotalFark] 2009-05-29 12:58:05 PM
That is the most complete list of shiatty songs that I've ever encountered. Even the perennial pick for shiattiest song, "We Built This City" was on it. I love how Creed was on the list twice. Awesome.

Then again, I think there is room for one more: "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay

Handsome B. Wonderful 2009-05-29 01:02:16 PM
Does this list really encapsulate "of all time"?

Barbie Girl - Aqua

You think hearing this on the radio is bad? You should try seeing an overweight, 40-something couple do a karaoke duet to this song at a dive bar in Pittsburgh.

I had to sing Kung-Fu Fighting just to rescue the party mood.

I agree to some extent. Though With Arms Wide Open is more syrupy than any 80s power ballad. I think the difference between Nickelback and Creed vs the rest of the bands you listed is that Styx, etc. at least give the impression of not being totally serious about what they're singing.

Still not sure hwy we're still talking about Journey or why Don't Stop Believing keeps recharting...

Farmerjohn48pan: Funny how the people who rail against these songs and how much they suck also know all the words.

When the radio pumps it into your head 9000 times a day for 6 months, it increases lyric retention and hatred.

I'm kind of surprised to Soulja Boy on there. I assume this is because the song is so recent that it's still fresh on most people's minds. I can name worse rap. How about "Laffy Taffy" by D4L or (reaching back) "Whoop there is is".

This is exactly the reason that hearing "You Light up my Life" causes me physical pain 30 years after it was released.

I disagree with Barbie Girl - that's some seriously brilliantly catchy pop with a bit of satire mixed in.

I'd never buy it, but the Europop sound (Sweedish, Danish, Norweigan etc.) puts out some scary catchy songs that enable people to dance like idiots. Ain't nothing wrong with that IMO.

/okay, Maybe I'd buy an ABBA album if it was on sale
/last album bought was The Chemistry of Common Life, for reference

Honestly, the CD player in my car broke 3 years ago and I've been too cheap to replace it. So on my 30 minute (each way) commute I listen to the radio. We have some good college stations in Atlanta so it's usually OK, but sometimes there's a college game of some sort on so I have to click over to one of the other stations (our NPR plays mostly classical here so no relief there). So usually I listen to the hip hop stations because sometimes they break new stuff and because everything else is the "Dave" station or some whiny nu-metal shiat. This is why I hate Laffy Taffy so much.

That's my excuse. I also have one cassette in my car which is an ancient Ice-T and Eazy-E mix tape. So I can always listen to "Colors" when I can't take the radio.

2. he made Slither, one of the best horror films ever made
3. you're jealous.
