How amusing that the Mullahs are so insecure in their control that they find something like Facebook a threat. Dangerous questions like "What kind of Persian accent do you have?" and "Which member of the 1979 Islamic Revolution are you?"

Just to be picky, burqas are what women have to wear in Aghanistan. They look like some kind of tablecloth with a screendoor for the face. In Iran, they wear chadors. Those make the wearer look like they're a ninja tangled in curtains.

Makes sense from their twisted point of view. If Obama's election proved anything, it's that progressive and young people (most often one in the same) are more inclined to used technology like the Internet and facebook for grassroots political campaigning and mobilization than older and more conservative people. And they don't want the reformers to have the upper hand at taking down Ahmadinejad.

It makes sense actually. The regime is fearful not of Mousavi, but western interference. Facebook is comes from the U.S., and before the trend gets out of hand, it's easy for them to just temporarily pull the plug on it.

Pretty cool though to see their campaigns starting to emulate our own. If that's a good thing, I don't know;)

It's really had to tell in a non-transparent society like that, but Ahmadinejad isn't very popular. In fact, Khamanei hasn't endorsed him, which is a first. Pretty sure he'll be gone in a few weeks. Trouble then becomes you won't have your perfect Hitler boogieman to justify Israel's carpet bombing campaign that Netanyahu may or may not attempt.

Now now, it's not time to spread false rumours, let's concentrate on the facts at hand!

wolvernova: Dude whatever.

Yeah except all the polls not from reformists are giving Ahmadinejad 60%+ while the second in the run-up has around 22% of the votes.

wolvernova: Trouble then becomes you won't have your perfect Hitler boogieman to justify Israel's carpet bombing campaign that Netanyahu may or may not attempt.

This is not about Ahmadinejad, this is about Iran. Whether he is there or not is irrelevant, Israel will not let Iran get nukes.

Actually, Rezai (former IRGC head honcho) is running as a conservative, but will drop out to support Mousavi, taking the IRGC votes with him. Watch. A-jad is done.

Tatsuma: This is not about Ahmadinejad, this is about Iran. Whether he is there or not is irrelevant, Israel will not let Iran get nukes.

Funny, the number one reaction/reason from Israeli hawks on why Iran is so evil and dangerous is because Ahmadinejad wants to wipe Israel from the map. So I cannot wait for the wagarble when he's not there.

Some, not all, women in Iran wear chadors. Many wear Western clothes and a head scarf that covers less and less of their hair each year. They also dye their hair, wear makeup, get their nails done, etc.

The prevailing attitude among the citizenry is "fark the rules." Many of my relatives drink alcohol. Tons of houses in Tehran have satellite TV, even though that is illegal too.

We were talking about this at work last week, not the Iranian situation but Facebook for Muslims.
My workmate is from Yemen, his wife wears the Ninja thing, she has Facebook...
I asked him how here friends recognize her and vice versa as they all have pics where they are covered up and they are all called the same names like Fatima, Mohammed and Jihad.
I said Muslims should have a separate Facebook called Eyebook, just for the ninja women.
He called me a stinking Jew again, he always does that...

Silliness aside, A-jad already has this thing won. This election is still progress for Iran dispite that.

Don't blame Islam for taking advantage of a weakened and exhausted Sassanid Empire. It was not the fault of the Arabs that Khosrau II felt it necessary to demand a usurper be placed on the throne of the Eastern Roman Empire. Heraclius' destruction of the Sassanid military apparatus and recovery of the True Cross was not during a war of aggression, you'll recall, but one of defense. Of course even the triumphant Romans did not force the Persians to engage in blood letting against themselves that followed, which also played no small part in their susceptibility to the Moslem expansion...

Still believe that if the arabs killed Mohammad before he moved to Madina this crap would not have happened.

Its a fair to conclude that Arabs were not always violent regarding their belief system. After all, even the Koran suggest that Mohammad Initially was just made fun of by others, it was after his move to Madina that the tone of Koran and his followers changed from respect your neighbors to kill the infidels. Hence it was indeed Islam/ Mohammad that caused the shift in their attitude towards violence.

So my point stands: Stupid Muslims, ruined my country.

im equally as vocal about other stupid governments....
why pick just Israel ? I support Ron paul and complain about Bush and Obama... does that also ruin his good work ?

I support Green party up here in Canada, and complain about the NDP, the libs, and the Harper government (in fact im super happy that we have had a minority government for the past 2 elections)

how about me complaining about Mohammad.. that also ruins his good work ?

get a grip on yourself tats .... Israel does not equal JEW ... and JEW does not equal Israel..

Facebook has been used by younger Iranians to setup demonstrations. Wired magazine had a great article on this that I can't seem to find at the moment. Doesnt surprise me they decided to block the website entirely. When your country is your ISP, makes it a bit easier.

well General Augusto Pinochet came to power in Chile, backed by CIA and US government. Killing, maiming and torturing interrogating via enhanced versions million of innocent people including union workers...

or did you mean 2001/09/11 which in that case bunch of idiots took over planes and hit a two buildings..

after that i'd say over reaction ..

in your world what happened on 9/11 ?

Good luck trying to hammer that message. See, people can be anti-Iran without hating Muslims, but somehow being anti-Israel makes someone anti-Jew. Very convenient.

And notice that by mentioning Ron Paul, you're being associated with a fringe minority of 9/11 truthers that like Ron Paul too.

No, tats, what Ron Paul said about 9/11 is the farking truth and no other candidate had the balls to say it. They didn't attack us because we're free, but because of our foreign policy. Part of which is our one-sided approach to Israel/Palestine. That's right, my people pay in dollars and blood so that your people can take other people's land.
