That was awful. And I know, because my music choices are superior to any of yours.

But really what the hell was that? Where's the Sunday metal thread?

Was nailpolish-boy's guitar horribly out of tune, or is the song really that discordant?

ya...it doesn't help that she was singing in the wrong key, either...

My buddy and I went to see Berlin because of the hot girl singer.
We had no idea they had such a large gay following (NTTAWWT).
I think we're a couple now.

Terri Nunn was in Penthouse when she was 17.

I know that has nothing to do with this clip, but its important information.

Olivia Newton John was an absolute goddess in her prime.

/not a horrible cover

I dug it... Things like this go a long way to show that there is a big difference b/w a song itself and a recording of said song.

And Navarro's guitar wasn't out of tune; there are a lot of dissonant chords in that song.

It's funny, my first concert buddy and I used to pick concerts based almost entirely on whether a) there was a female in the band and b) if there was a chance that she'd take off her shirt while performing.

After the Preenders concert: "Well, Chrissie Hynde didn't flash her tits. What's the next concert coming up?"

"Joan Jett."

"Oh, you know THAT whore will take off her shirt."

Needless to say, disappointment ensued.

Finally went to see Missing Persons, and at least that Bozio chick was wearing see-thru plastic bubbles over her boobs, albeit with black tape over her nipples.

It was just our assumption that, if a woman's performing on a stage, it's just natural that she's going to render herself topless at some point. Being thirteen is confusing.

It's an okay cover, but the original blows it away. I love the harmonics and the bass line on the studio version.

Apparently this thread is full of people who've never heard the original song - as others have pointed out, it's full of dissonant chords. For reference, here's a live version of the original - ONJ at her vocal best in 1982:

Magic (new window)

This isn't a bad cover. FWIW, I don't think Miz Nunn was trying all that hard to belt it out - her voice is still quite good and this song is well within her range.

conejo 2009-05-24 10:55:24 PM
She sounds and looks great for her age. It was a nice cover.

This song is useless without cocaine. At least the original was. I'm not going to listen to an acoustic version, it would completely defeat the purpose.

Yup (and speaking of fun, crappy songs - this one qualifies. See Dylan thread for ref.)

Dave's playing it correctly. The original version has the same dissonant notes.

Not a real simple chord arrangement, either.

Hummina-hummina... She certainly was stunning, wasn't she? And she still looks mighty fine.

I love Terri Nunn, and I think she's got a great voice and still looks gorgeous today, but she can't sing that song as well as Olivia did. Say what you will about ONJ, but she had great range and could hit some notes that Terri Nunn can only dream about.

Now Cyndi Lauper, on the other hand, could hit any note ONJ could hit, and then turn around and hit all the others she can't hit, too.

According to what I've read, she was actually 16 at the time of the photos, and had been considered for a role in Caligula but was just too young for them to get away with it.

Born on June 26 1961
February 1977 issue of Penthouse

Do the math.

Damn. Add her to the list in that other thread. And ONJ. And Cyndi. In addition to countless others that will rise to the surface of my consciousness overnight.
