Oooh, he's a hottie!

(Yeah, yeah, I know.... dude, he's only 17.)

Wow, Susan Boyle really looks different after that makeover.

Max Clifford sure has a talent for making his 'unknowns' famous.

And, I didn't bother with the clip - but I imagine Simon Cowell sold it like he had never met/lunched/whatnot with whatever prodigy was signing on stage.

Good presence. Very strong for a young guy. Considering that he's young and good looking, wouldn't surprise me to see him groomed into a pop star.

He sounded like Chris Daughtry. Not necessarily a bad thing, just saying.

I think he's great.

This is my attraction to shows like American Idol, this show, et al. It's easy to be negative enough to find things wrong with these shows because there definitely are some problems (with both the show and the talent). But I'm more of a positive person and I enjoy when people who would otherwise not really have a shot at the big time succeed.

I love success no matter who it goes to to.

Am I the only one not impressed? I don't know, it was just okay. But then, I spend a lot of my time throughout the year listening to classically trained vocalists, so maybe I'm just overly spoiled.

/Mr. Methane on the right was waaaayyyy better.

More proof that a pretty face makes everyone forget you cant really sing. I mean really, he is not a BAD singer, but definatelly not a GOOD one either.

That's it? The Brits do ache for stuff to hype.

If that guy ever releases an album, he can call it feh, complete with a pic on the front of him standing there with his hands in his pockets.

tukatz [TotalFark] 2009-05-24 01:14:54 PM
If he were, say, 27-years-old.... he might be considered average.

C'mon, the kid's only 17 and never performed in front of a big audience before.

(And there's not much variation that can be added to that song.... it's not a complicated one. He did a great job.)

tukatz [TotalFark] 2009-05-24 01:15:59 PM
Much better than that Jamie Pugh guy.

He just made me feel sorry for him. His singing was not that great.

meh. nothing special.

i only made it about 20 seconds into the song and I closed it.

This young woman's voice is superior.

I wonder if there'll ever be a 'China's Got Talent'.

Shouldn't that be 'Britain Has Talent?'

Lol.

There is a similar show in China, but its on a provincial tv station. Its still watched throughout the country and is a huge hit, but recently the authorities have been getting a little bit nervous about it because it promotes a "culture of democracy". I don't think the plug has been pulled yet since its such a huge revenue earner for the province (forget which one).

That was a solid song for his timbre of voice. The people who didn't like this probably didn't like the original either.

Holy crap, she scared me.
(I wouldn't want to meet her in an alley.... she may mug me with her voice.)

No his voice is average, he shiat on the original version.

He didnt even come close to a karaoke version of the song.

Inescapable Future of Humanity 2009-05-25 06:18:41 AM
His voice was better than most, though he wasn't exceptional, especially compared to some of the really good people on there. What makes him stand out, though, is that he's very charismatic. Simon seems to see this, because you can see him looking back into the crowd. I think that Simon said yes not on his singing abilities, but on charisma/appeal.

I'm waiting for them to see the "got talent" and "idol" shows as a reason to bring back a primetime version of "Showtime at the Apollo".

Of course, I'd love it if this would spur a new funk/soul/R&B era in which artists don't use Auto-Tune, ignore hip-hop, and stop using that damnably awful Whitney Houston/Mariah Carey/Christina Aquilera "whoooaaaaaoaaaaaaoooooaaaaoooAAAAAAOoooooOOOOooooooo" thing that is so popular (and predictable, and awful) in R&B/funk/soul today.

Start the show with a performance by a great famous act, and then have the contestant come on after. This will provide some contrast for the audience.

For example, give us a performance by Rufus & Chaka Khan, or Erykah Badu, then bring out the wannabes and have them perform with the bar set MUCH HIGHER than the normal "talent show" format. Drop the 3-4 judge format (and definitely the "call in" format) and go with audience Applause-o-Meter. Wanna vote? Go to the show.

Also, tone down the Apollo audience a tad. Wild is good. Abusive might be entertaining, but it's also not a good way to represent the community.

I'm guessing he'll never have to worry about getting laid ever again.
