Take it out of the cop's paycheck. Pay him minimum wage until the cost is covered. It might remind him what his job skills are worth in the real world.

Oddly enough, I stole a cop car for about 15 minutes once.

Moved it about half a mile, parked it, locked it, tossed the keys in the dumpster. Went back to the apartment, sat on the balcony and savored the moment when Mr Cop came out and discovered emptiness where his car once sat.

Never did that again. It's one of those things you don't find as funny after you sober up.

Pay 'N Spray won't touch that.

Yeah and I am a Navy Seal named Chuck Seagal.

This one should be easy -- it'll be the only police car that actually obeys traffic laws.

I would have assumed that lojack is installed in cop cars.

Anyway, this never would have happened to Sonny Bonds.

FTFA: Police say the car was equipped with a fluorescent orange and black shotgun that shoots beanbags.

Oh, they aint never getting that back now...

A police officer let his cruiser get stolen? Don't they tell you how to prevent that in police academy? I mean, that's just plain sloppy.

Fluorescent orange and black? Perfect disguise!

"Oh fellas, he's just got a to--whuff!"

I met a pilot who accidentally fired a $50,000 (1980 money) missile. He'd have been in trouble except that another crew farked up in a much more expensive manner before the next performance review.

Years ago I saw a police car with a civilian driver doing 55 in the right lane of Route 128 and causing no end of trouble. At the time I assumed the driver was maintenance staff.

I thought all cop cars had a "Low Jack" type system.

I left Shoreline piss drunk with a friend who had trouble walking back to the car. I thought it was bad enough that he chose to rest against the cop car parked right in front. Never thought about stealing it though.

Maybe he just got drunk and forgot where he parked...

\I can't be the only person that's happened to...

(shrug) I did it. It's not that tough when they leave the keys in and the motor running. Just slim jimmed it. The cop had been parking in one of the two exits from the apartment complex at night off and on for weeks. You had to go all the way around to get out. One night he did it when I had a snoot full, I went looking to see what the cop was doing when he blocked the exit, and found him playing cards in one of the nearby apartments. So, I grabbed a slimjim and moved his car down the road a bit and tossed his keys in the dumpster. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

erewhon 2009-05-24 09:13:16 AM
And yes, he was leaving the motor running with the doors locked, I assume it has to do with the car radio and the little belt radio they carry, I think the car's rig relays the belt clip radio. It would have been a biatch to hotwire. With the keys in, it's a lot easier.

By this time, it's already painted in Dr Pepper livery and all donked out.

Leads? Yeah, we have four more detectives back at the station. They have us working in shifts.

"It was parked in a handicap zone. Perhaps they towed it".

Not to worry, Vigilante mode should clear up some crimes in the area.

More worried about the Fire Truck that disappeared. (totalfarkonly) Sounds like we have something going on. Everyone make sure no ambulances disappear.

Looks like they found it ... http://www.mountainview.gov/civica/press/display.asp?Layout=1&Entry=254&Preview= Yes.

Funny thing is the place where it turned up was about two blocks from Mountain View's main police station. The thief would have to gone very close, if not directly by the station.

If you have ever been to a concert at Shoreline, you would know the police would have no chance to catch anyone in the post concert crowds.

The show Friday night? Janes Addiction and Nine Inch Nails. Looks like no one has been caught stealing yet!
