From the NYT piece:

Ms. Alford's secret was initially divulged six years ago when a biography of Kennedy was published with portions from a 1964 oral history that described the president's 18-month sexual affair with a young intern named Mimi Beardsley.

'the fark' is that the affair went public in 1964. But don't let that stop you and others from neglecting the fact.

Well, no. Based on your own quote above . . .

He also very likely stole an election, hung around with known criminals, engaged in a Three Stooges style effort to get rid of Castro and made the US look like a bunch of schmucks, dragged his feet on civil rights AND illegally had the president of South Vietnam assassinated and increased involvement in a war the US had absolutely no business in. But yeah, he ended a crisis that we helped create by removing the missiles we had in Turkey aimed at the USSR that we put there long before they put any in Cuba, so that means he was a great president.

He was mediocre, at best. He's only revered because he died in office.

Per Wikipedia;

Upon learning of Diem's ouster and death, Ho Chi Minh is reported to have said, "I can scarcely believe the Americans would be so stupid."[62] The North Vietnamese Politburo was more explicit, predicting: "The consequences of the 1 November coup d'état will be contrary to the calculations of the U.S. imperialists ... Diem was one of the strongest individuals resisting the people and Communism. Everything that could be done in an attempt to crush the revolution was carried out by Diem. Diem was one of the most competent lackeys of the U.S. imperialists ... Among the anti-Communists in South Vietnam or exiled in other countries, no one has sufficient political assets and abilities to cause others to obey. Therefore, the lackey administration cannot be stabilized. The coup d'état on 1 November 1963 will not be the last."[62]

After Diem's assassination, South Vietnam was unable to establish a stable government and numerous coups took place during the first several years after his death. While the U.S. continued to influence South Vietnam's government, the assassination bolstered North Vietnamese attempts to characterize the South Vietnamese as supporters of colonialism.[

You are a hypocritical dreamer if you only accuse Repubs for covert actions. US govt has a history of doing some pretty nasty stuff in this very nasty world. Like Jack said "You can't handle the truth!".

As for the rest of the charges against Kennedy, they are all well documented right down to Joe K stealing the election in 60.

Not exactly who I would have chosen as a party icon, but whatever.
