(Politico) Interesting Look, Joe Biden is out there. He can't be reasoned with. He doesn't feel shame or remorse. And he absolutely will not STFU, ever, until Obama dies of embarrassment   (politico.com) divider line 67

That's horrible! The Republic can not withstand a VP who bumbles and isn't actively evil.

Ok, we'll have to impeach Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden. It's only right.

Biden is funny. I wouldn't want him to ever have any actual power, and I like Obama all the more for, apparently, agreeing with me, but the dude is pretty funny.

I am from DE. Much of my famly and friends still live there. In fact my sister lives less than a mile from him.

We have known him to be a complete buffon for years.

When he was picked by Obama to be VP, I thought for sure that was the end of his campaign.

Now I truly know the stupid goes far in this country. It runs deep.

As a lifelong Democrat and Obama supporter, I can say without reservation that I would rather have Biden bumbling his way around as VP than holding real power in the Senate as a paid shill for the credit card industry.

Most people are much less bothered by Biden than they were by McCain's absurd VP pick simply because we have way more faith in Obama's ability to stay alive for four years. We will regret this bitterly if it doesn't work out that way, but in the meantime at least he's amusing.

To be fair, Obama was helped by the fact that McCain picked an even worse VP.

Oh well, at least Biden's bumbling is amusing rather than disastrous.

Some farker wisely stated that Biden is like that rich, successful uncle you have - you know - the one who is constantly making embarrassing comments and off-color jokes at the holiday dinner table. He made his money doing interesting, bold, often cringeworthy things in life that you secretly wish you had the nerve to do. BUT you wouldn't trade places with him for a minute. He's a disaster.

Love him to death, though! He's entertaining and provides a neat sideshow so that Obama can get things done.

Phil Herup thinks Palin would be a better president than Obama. I think I read that in one of his posts. So, you know...

Ahh Politico...

There isn't any evidence of tension and yeah he's said some stupid things that have embarrassed the administration but wouldn't it be so awesome to speculate if they really hated each other.

its like another tentacle of Fox news

Truth is while VP Biden doesn't know when to shut his yap, the man does have some serious foreign policy chops, knows the in's and out's of the senate, and served on the judiciary committee (helped shut down that scary ass Bork) which might come in handy when..I don't know...Obama needs to pick a new supreme court judge.

Biden's gaffes:

Insulting the President's dog, zomg!
No, wait, the kids he told that joke to got it. Only Fox News didn't.
Insulting Valerie Jarret, zomg!
No, wait, the person saying she was insulted is an unnamed anonymous aide in a yet-to-be-released book by a conservative pundit. She's on the record saying she wasn't insulted.
Insulting Chief Justice Roberts, zomg!
... as opposed to the rest of us who defer to his sage wisdom. Heh.

Seriously, wtf is up with this manufactured scandal?

Like this one:
Aides have spent more time than they would like defending not just Biden but also his relationship with Obama.

When Fox News quoted from a not-yet-released book by Newsweek's Richard Wolffe, they were back on the defensive again. A senior aide was quoted in the book saying Biden "can't keep his mouth shut."

Parse that second paragraph...
1) An aide said Biden can't keep his mouth shut.
2) This is quoted in the not-yet-released book.
3) Fox News quotes from the book.
4) They're 'back on the defensive again' by... 1) an aide going back in time to say that Biden can't keep his mouth shut.
2) This is quoted in the not-yet-released book.
3) Which Fox News quotes from...

seriously, wtf?

ROBO-Jesus 2009-05-23 12:51:10 PM
It's odd that the Republicans were so loving of Bush's gaffs as they portrayed him as a "Real American" and someone "who you'd have a beer with". But when Biden - a man who didn't live in a mansion and often took a train to commute to DC - makes gaffes as Vice President, all of a sudden he's an incompetent moron who is "unfit" to do whatever it is a VP is supposed to do.

"during the transition ... it appeared he would not have a clearly defined or prominent role as vice president."

Just like nearly every other vice president in history until the past 8 years. I guess having a vice president who not only takes on a prominent role, but takes over the duties of the president and entire executive branch has clouded our memories.

Veep is a benchwarmer. He's supposed to sit there and hope he never gets called up to the show.

Yeah ..Obama is doing great.

At least he keeping Bush/Cheney national security policies largely in place, like Palin would have.

Not forgetting he campaigned against those very same policies he is now using, and don't the European Apology tour of 2009. He is good at campaigning, tha tis abpout it.

I still have hope for him... he is the POTUS we have.

Joe Biden is a smart guy with a sense of humor. Sometimes jokes fall flat.

The Washington press are a bunch of twits with an overdeveloped sense of self-worth who have no sense of humor.

Twits without a sense of humor, hate smart people with a sense of humor.

there is a slight difference in flubbing a word here or there, for example, messing up the oath to office...than there is pointing out that mistake on television.

It's difference between mispronouncing nuclear or screwing up while reading from the teleprompter...and continually saying inappropriate things at inappropriate times.

Normally I'd consider Biden a welcome bumbling comic relief from the kleptocracy running the government, but he's that combination of ignorant, oblivious, and self-regardingly arrogant that just makes him an insufferable boor.

brigid_fitch [TotalFark] 2009-05-23 03:18:14 PM
Biden's gaffes are just that--he operates his mouth before engaging his brain. But as someone already pointed out, the guy's got serious clout in a lot of political circles and tons of foreign policy experience.

Cheney was sneaky and dangerous, Gore was wooden, but actually got shiat done (his pet project was ridiculous gov't spending, like your proverbial $400 hammer. I was a procurement specialist for the DoD before & during his change intiatives there. I can tell you first-hand that Gore did a LOT there.). Quayle was just as gaffe-prone, but didn't have Biden's experience to merit a pass for them.

I'll take Biden's occasional missteps over Cheney or Quayle any day. At least he's not dangerous or inept

I'm pretty sure Biden was always meant to be a one-termer who'd sole purpose was to offset Obama's perceived lack of experience. For the second term Veep, they'll need a viable Presidential candidate for 2016, maybe Hillary or Sebelius.
