An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.

I told ya Cheney won that showdown, what was Obama thinking talking in front of the Constitution. You know how many words are in that document? The fact is Obama is weak when it comes to national security. Period.

USA USA USA USA USA USA!

While I would say this strategy is pretty effective on one sided mediums like FOX news, how did it go for the Republican national convention? It failed. I still think McCain never had any intention of winning though.

///FOX news has been relentless lately
//Obama is getting tested alright

Is this why gay marriage always gets shot down? "We're protecting the sanctity of marriage", "They'll turn your kids gay in school" etc.

I mean, it's not like they have any GOOD reasons, just simple ones that are easy to digest.

Honestly, I think that fact is a symptom of the TV era. As we move away from TV and into the Internet, I think the public's ability to digest complex arguments has, and will continue to, grow.

Dr Dreidel: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.

Now I'm arrestin' this entire thead on three counts: one, acts of self-conscious behaviour contrary to the 'Not in front of the children' Act, two, always saying 'It's so and so of the Yard' every time the fuzz arrives and, three, and this is the cruncher, offenses against the 'Getting out of sketches without using a proper punchline' Act, four, namely, simply ending every bleedin' sketch by just having a policeman come in and... wait a minute.

This is just rhetoric 101. Anyone who needs to effectively convey a message knows this already. Look at education - repetition of simple concepts is the key to primary education (or parenting, for that matter). It's the same technique used in religion, entertainment, trial advocacy, advertising, etc., etc., etc.

There's nothing inherently wrong with using reduction to simple concepts and repetition to communicate with your audience. What's wrong is when a speaker cynically applies the technique to intentionally mislead an audience.
