I went to the new Yankee stadium for the first time the other day, only to see three home runs, all three in a row, hit to almost the exact same spot in right field. I don't even remember how many were hit in total that game. It seemed a little ridiculous.

I'll take my pitchers park at Citi Field anyday. Leads to more exciting baseball in my opinion.

Also, everytime the Mets wear those black uniforms, those stupid black and blue hats, or the "snow" white uniforms, I die a little inside.

The snow whites I understand, since the Wilpons are intent on having this team and their stadium look like the Brooklyn Dodgers as much as possible, but why the black? Are we trying to pay homage to the Florida Marlins? Its sad how much the owners of this team disrespect the history of the organization. Nothing commemorating'69 or '86 in the stadium, and we can't even wear our proper uniforms anymore.

THIS is the only home Mets uniform:

Baseball itself as a game is the joke. A joke of life. When you go to work tomorrow, or whenever, try to make three homeruns at whatever you do. You get 3 tries, or 4 balls.

How can I hate the Yankees so much, hate the Jets so much, hate the Knicks so much, and yet like the Mets?

I'm from the Bay Area for cryin' out loud. And yet, the blue and orange (the main colors of the two teams that left the city -- there's something cool about that) will always get respect cheers from me.

Having said that...

I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to baseball stadiums. AT&T Park is really the most gorgeous stadium for baseball I've ever seen. It's really a complete baseball experience. And the Giant Glove, the Coke bottle...it feels like the place has been around forever already. Wrigley Field has the nostalgia factor, sure. It's always going to look pretty even when it looks ugly. And there's St. Louis, but you could put that team on a little league field and the fans will make that place look and feel awesome. But the new Yankee Stadium? Ew. Just ew.

The stadium is a joke and not just because the homers. Stupidly expensive seats, obstructed sight lines, a steakhouse. What a joke. I can't wait until the Steinbrenner kids are gone.

King Something: The black in of the Mets' uniform, as well as their NY logo. is homage to the New York Baseball Giants. That is all.

Typical Mets. They don't have a legacy of their own, they have to take it from other teams, right down to building a replica of another team's ballpark.

Everyone keeps saying that the dimensions are identical to the old one. Randy Levine keeps spouting that line and everyone, including Peter Gammons, it seems, just accepts it as fact. The old one is still there. You can easily compare the two. They are not identical. Where they measure the distance, they are the same, but between those points in right field, the new stadium is a straight wall where the old stadium used to curve. That is enough to make a statistical difference (and, again, one you can measure by comparing home runs hit to right field so far this year). It is not the wind. The straight line brings the outfield wall in several feet.

I agree don't know why people are still complaining about the Black Unis when the Mets have worn them for over ten years now and have been basically a part of the team at this point.

Besides everyone knows these are really what the Mets should be wearing.

As bad as the Nats were last year, they're FIVE GAMES WORSE this year (12-29 vs. 17-24 after this many games last year).

On the bright side, looks like my inaugural season jersey will be accurate for another year.

There was a theory presented by AccuWeather.com, where they believe the height of the stands is having an effect on wind flow.

The field dimensions for the New Yankee Stadium are exactly the same as Old Yankee Stadium. However, the slope of the stadium's seating is different. In the old stadium, the flow of the wind through it was in a swirling motion.

However, the stands are higher in the New Stadium, possibly creating a slope for the wind to come over and down, then up and out; giving extra lift for someone hitting towards right field.

I actually agree. My girlfriend and I want to plan a trip to San Francisco partly just to see a game at that ballpark.

King Something: The black in of the Mets' uniform, as well as their NY logo. is homage to the New York Baseball Giants. That is all.

From a NY Times article: "The black was added as a style element based on some degree of research of fans in terms of what was popular in the marketplace," Dave Howard, the Mets' executive vice president of business operations, said on Thursday. "At the time, our traditional hats and uniforms were selling hardly at all."

It was NOT added as an homage to the Giants (who only wore black in their last couple of years in New York. Blue for the most of the time before that). It was an homage to the pocketbooks of gangbangers and 15 year old boys who wanted to dress like Ice Cube in Raiders gear.

Can you imagine the Cubs, Cardinals or Dodgers wearing black uniforms? No, and most Met fans over the age of twenty hate it. Christ, even the Royals figured out it was an awful idea.

I should have read the article:

Forty-four of the 75 homers have been hit to right field, which should suit the lefty-dominated Phillies lineup.

I didn't think Candlestick or the Oakland Colosseum were that bad until Pac Bell was built. Though Safco and PNC Park look pretty good, too. My brother in law is in Seattle this weekend for the Giants/Mariners interleague series. He told me I'd be jealous and he is right.

My son got invited to watch a game a few weeks ago in the new Yankee Stadium. He is a Sox fan, he loved it. It didn't hurt that it was in a luxury suite, with free food, staff serving, indoor and outdoor seating, T.V.s and a host of other goodies. He also brought home some stuff, mementos from the old stadium, they're right next to my chuck of the Berlin wall and a few other prized possessions.

I'm a Sox fan too, but I will miss the old park and will enjoy the rivalry.

Heck, I think I would have enjoyed the experience, barely ever been out of the bleachers.

I'm from Buffalo, NY. We don't have an MLB team, so I adopted my Long Islander wife's team. Works out well now that the Triple-A Bisons are the Mets' top minor league affiliate.

In exchange, she adopted my hockey team. Everyone's happy. (Or equally unhappy, given the teams involved, but it's worked out well.)

Try blaming the two teams who just decided to leave their NY fans in the dust in the 50's. The Mets didn't really usurp their history as much as they filled the void left by deserters.

Though it is funny to think about how my life would be different had they not left. I'd probably be a Dodgers fan celebrating the inaugural season of New Ebbet's Field and waiting for the first subway series against the Giants at Polo Grounds V.

I think about that all the time. My grandfather grew up watching the Giants at the Polo Grounds, and even saw the Mets play during their first two seasons there before they moved to Shea. Almost wish they would have kept it around and fixed it up.

Still, I will say it again, the black has NOTHING to do with the Giants. The Mets front office has said its because market research showed that black hats and jerseys sell better. Peroid. Same reason the Royals, Blue Jays, A's, and all the other shiatty market teams desperate to sell merchandise do it. The Giants, up until their last few years at the Polo grounds, when they did switch to black, they wore these hats anyway:

The Mets are the continuation of National League baseball in New York. You know, the two teams that were around in New York LONNG BEORE the American Leaugue New York Highlander Yankees moved in on their markets. When the National League teams moved to CA, Dodgers and Giants fans became Mets fans. We took the logo of one team, the colors of the other, to try to keep National League New York Baseball (that had been around since the 1880's) alive. Is it that hard to understand?

You also realize the original New York Yankees logo was this:
exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org

Until the New York Giants changed their logo to the interlocking NY, and then the Yankees Uniforms looked like this:

exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org

So I don't want to hear it.

If indeed New Yankee Stadium has a bias towards more homers above league average, an adjustment will likely be made. Pissing and moaning about it now won't do any good, however, as the stadium cannot be altered mid-season anyway.

I fail to understand the New Yankee Stadium hate. I'm a Yankee fan. The old park had outlived its usefulness. The Yankee Stadium that Ruth, Mantle and Gehrig played in was demolished in '74-'75, the dimensions were changed, the monuments moved out of play, and the field sunk 7 feet lower. The new park is an absolute palace, with great sight lines and lots of room in the concession areas.

The people pissing and moaning about the expensive seats are the same people who wouldn't have bought them at last years prices anyway. Hell, the new stadium is a bigger bargain now- I watched the whole game from essentially the same vantage point as the centerfield camera (or the Mohegan Sun Club, if you will), and from parts of the lower deck, all for the price of bleacher seats. The $5 obstructed view seats are an even greater bargain.

Oh, also, the Giants were the first team in New York to wear pinstripes too, in 1911.

And then guess who started wearing pinstripes in 1912. That's right!! The Yankees!!!

Yankees stole their logo, and stole their pinstripes. At least the Mets are filling the void of teams who left. Yankees did it while the other team was still in town.

If I'm not mistaken, in 1990 there were only two teams that incorporated black into their uniforms: the Giants and the Pirates. Then the White Sox changed everything. Now look how many teams have a black alternate jersey, at least a dark alt jersey. Again, as as far as I know at this moment, the only two teams that don't have a dark alt jersey are the Yankees and the Giants. I heard some sports guy complaining about this on the radio, "White at home! Gray on the road! None of this softball crap!" I totally dissagree with that dude, I love the dark jerseys. I wish the Giants were still using the black Friday night model they shelved in 2002, I think the Braves new road blue tops are great. I liked the dark green ones Tampa used to sport, before they went to the more mainstream blue colors. Maybe the A's, already with a cool dark green top, went too far when they started using a black top. I always thought the black tops the Mets used were real sharp, and I never thought they were some sort of homage to the Giants. Black jerseys sell.

Yeah, freaky. But, as a lifelong Giants fan born long after '58, I'm glad they did make the trip. And I wonder, do you consider the Braves or the Rangers or Athletics to be 'deseters' too? Are you Bob Costas is disguise? Ha!
