(SFGate) Cool Bruce Springsteen to close Giants Stadium this fall. Maybe he'll play that one song about fightin' his dad and goin' to the outskirts of town and dream about gettin' out and makin' something of himself   (sfgate.com) divider line 55

Dude, I LOVE that song.

The Boss is just so authentically AMERICAN.

I live on the outskirts of his hometown (Freehold) and will be getting a kick out of these responses.

/well technically one town over, right off of Highway 9
//the "factory" is now senior housing

To close out the stadium in style, as a grand finale he'll perform a 20-foot crotchslide directly into the decomposed skull of Jimmy Hoffa.

Maybe he'll invite Bob Dylan to play and they could mumble into the mics together.

Ha ha its funny because its true.

I just wonder how a guy who grew up in Jersey sings like an Okie.

That "The Rising" song, the one we were all lectured was his Vitally Important Lesson About America Post 9/11, was particularly bad for that. "Come on up FER the RISINNNNN"...

unfarkingbelievable 2009-05-22 02:34:22 PM
I live in his hometown. So damageddude and I are neighbors. He is correct about the factory.

Springsteen frequently visits the downtown and hangs out with quite a few people he grew up with.

Thanks for clearing that up. You obviously have a wonderful economy with words, necropoutryac. I look forward to your next syllable with great eagerness.

However, your work is finished here, and you are needed in the baseball thread, stat.

unfarkingbelievable: Springsteen frequently visits the downtown and hangs out with quite a few people he grew up with.

My wife, her friend and a few others were at a concert at whatever the performing arts center in Holmdel is called these days a year or two ago. They were sitting in traffic, waiting to exit the lot, when her friend looked over and saw Springsteen in the car next to them with his daughter. They asked for his autograph and he said, sorry, not with my daughter here. They said ok, sat in traffic a few more minutes and realized he said nothing about pictures. They grabbed their camera, ran back and called him on his loophole. He laughed and posed for a few pictures.

damageddude: that's a great story! He's the kind of guy that as long as you're respectful to him, he's the same way right back. Pretty friendly and very humble. He walks in, sits down at the bar and just hangs with people just shooting the breeze over some beer.

Have a great time at Jersey Freeze!

A few years ago my friend and I were at the movie theaters near where he lives, and he and his daughter came in and sat down next to us. We ended up chatting until the movie started. He's a really nice guy, as long as you don't go all fangirl/boy on him.

/why, yes, I am getting a kick...

This one time, my girlfriend and I were at a flea market a few miles from where he lives, and Bruce was standing in line at the snocone stand with us. My girlfriend said "Hi!" and he turned around, I think he was on heroin, and he said "shut up whore, I'm gonna get me a snocone", so she started crying and I got up and said that wasn't cool, and he beat the living shiat out of me until some guys came along and pulled him off. The he started shouting how God was dead and all women were sluts.

I love that "Nebraska" album though.

Springsteen does not move his jaw when singing; the jaw stays affixed to the microphone and only the top of his head swings back.

Watch him next time, you'll see.

THAT is the song I want to hear; think he will play it?

Yup a Jersey guy singing like an Okie.

Wasn't sure if it was still PNC. I lose track of corporate names.

I posted this on brooklynvegan, seems appropriate to repeat it here...

He'll slide across the stage, right into the very foundation of the stadium, causing it to crumble dramatically atop him as the band plays "My City of Ruins" from the safety of the parking lot. When the dust has finally settled, his fist shall defiantly punch though the rubble heap, the crowd will roar with might, and the band launches into "The Rising."

And then he'll play Lucky Town and Human Touch back-to-back, in their entirety.

Hey man, they're just telling you to never give up the faith like Tommy and Gina and Jenny and Bob and Juan-Jose and all the rest of them. Now watch me prance on stage like a fairy and embarrass my bandmates (well except for Richie because he's drunk right now) while a bunch overweight housemoms fawn over my drop dead sexy abs and ass.

Or they could just have Roger Waters walk on stage and perform "Outside the Wall." Not that it's the least bit relevant to Giants Stadium, but he needs the publicity.

I just found out that my father is going to try to get tickets to this and I am so excited about this. We did the summer of Springsteen a few years ago when he first came back with the E-street band and I never have seen my father so happy in my life. Singing every song note for note and I think that he knew the words even better, if not close to Springsteen. God, I think that it's gonna be better if he gets rid of the damn fiddle player and makes the wife stay in the back, but those a just wishes.

He has possibily the best Springsteen Story that puts all others to shame.

This is going way back to when Asbury Park was in it's semi-down fall, right around the late 60s to early 70s. My mother and father just started dating and were hang out in Asbury Park seeing a local concert that happened to have a new and up coming artist by the name of Bruce Springsteen as one of the headliners. The saw him play and hung out and saw a few other acts play and decided that they had enough and where leaving.

On their way out, they passed Springsteen who was wasted beyond belief and were pretty dumb that he was just sitting basically in the gutter. They asked him if he wanted to go back inside, because he had to play a second set. The shrugged it off and basically as my after put it was falling over.

My mother and father helped him out of the gutter and propped him against the wall outside of whatever club he was playing at that night and left him there.

To this day, I like to tell people that story when they say that their parents are big Springsteen fans and pretty much silences them right away.

/loves the early albums
//not crazy about the new stuff.
///prays to god for tunnel of love, but that will never happen.

Going to see Springsteen at the Meadowlands tomorrow. 7th time I've seen him since 2003. Will surely be going to this Giants Stadium show, too. It's like a pilgrimage. Sure, I've seen plenty of bands do better shows in tiny venues for a tenth of the price, but Bruce is a religious experience, and to see him at the Meadowlands is like a pilgrimage.
