Dude, I have no idea. These guys are fantastic. Loving this.

flavor of the month 2009-05-21 09:50:18 PM
youtube does no justice to that song. the bass is practically inaudible. cat empire owns.

mfaby 2009-05-21 09:50:25 PM
Subby!

Farking AWESOME!

I am off to the ' Bay to see if there is any there.

Best music I've seen on Fark in ages.

Ha, I like that. Makes me wanna dance with someone...like the singer.

Whoa!

NorCalLos 2009-05-22 01:16:13 AM
That was like Richard Cheese without the novelty.

These guys are an Aussie band who have been on the circuit for a few years. Yes, go see thier shows when they go over to your side of the world. They are just farking fantastic live. And thier first CD is pure win.

berniex [TotalFark] 2009-05-22 01:35:26 AM
Meh.

SuperCatBarf [TotalFark] 2009-05-22 01:43:14 AM
Well, that was boring. That might be why they never went anywhere in the US.

Dialectic 2009-05-22 01:46:53 AM
Meh. They didn't become famous. Good riddance.

geedub 2009-05-22 01:54:32 AM
Yup, they probably did better in Europe with the pop/swing fusion thing, that's always done better on the other side of the pond.

Kliffoth [TotalFark] 2009-05-22 01:58:10 AM
I made it through 20 seconds of the performance.

Garm [TotalFark] 2009-05-22 02:04:38 AM
Not for me and I will leave it at that. I imagine there is a market for their sound but being surprised that they aren't huge in the US is silly.

mediablitz [TotalFark] 2009-05-22 02:10:29 AM

I could hear the bass line clear as day.

Seamer 2009-05-22 02:20:14 AM
For a start, they're a bunch of wogs from Geelong, and nothing good ever came out of Geelong.

Nuff said.

/add to that, network TV's proclivity for playing a band's new song instead of their good song...that's ALWAYS a winner. What the fark is that for? If you're a new band where everyone's heard your SongA, why should you sing the b-side instead as a debut?

Yeah, can't see why these guys didn't make it big in 2007....other than the performance didn't swing at all, and was completely vanilla/by the numbers...if Paul Shaffer can relate? Yeah, no wonder they didn't succeed.

/rant off

luckily, the lead singer had a career to fall back on.

00ghost27 2009-05-22 03:41:28 AM
I stopped listening to Jeff Buckley for that?

Gangway Fathead 2009-05-22 03:51:09 AM
My kids have loved this song for a while and interestingly (perhaps only to subby) I theorized some time ago that the singer - while charismatic - simply isn't a rock star. He's like a really charming bartender.

I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just my theory.

danduran 2009-05-22 04:50:59 AM
So this is what Farkers consider good music? I always wondered...

/their sales died off around 2006 here in NZ

Sphaux 2009-05-22 04:59:18 AM
I've been listening to their cd for about two years. Which I downloaded illegally after seeing them on Letterman. Maybe that's why.

DjangoStonereaver [TotalFark] 2009-05-22 05:33:41 AM
WHY YES, THIS BAND NO ONE'S EVER HEARD OF IS THE BEST EVAR!!!!

/Music nerds.... worse than trekkies

doctorwormwood 2009-05-22 05:36:35 AM
great band... liked them since that song came out..!

Seth'n'Spectrum 2009-05-22 05:38:35 AM
I remember they were big about 3 years ago because one of their songs made it onto an edition of FIFA Football. Or something like that.

They're good, better 80% of the 'indie' or emo-ish sad-boys that end up Letterman. I have no clue how he goes about screening his musical guests, all the non-famous ones are almost invariably horrific.

Can we lose the tambourine, man?

bbernardini 2009-05-22 07:03:44 AM
When will Letterman have Tism on? They're the only Australian band worth listening to.

/Okay, them and Midnight Oil.

fmmodzelewski 2009-05-22 07:07:04 AM
Seriously, that band totally sucked balz

Thirsty Merc would disagree.

Shat Empire

butt_made_baby 2009-05-22 07:51:47 AM
They do a great version of "Hotel California", in French, with a Melodica...

mpv81 2009-05-22 07:52:27 AM
They would have been huge... if they had come out in 1996.

/Cat Empire could have opened up for Barenaked ladies or something like that.

Dear Jerk 2009-05-22 08:10:14 AM
I'm surprised Cake was as big as they were. Usually, we don't give a damn about any trumpet playing band.

Oh dear, you don't know about Thirsty Merc. Let me explain.

The main guy was one of those "will do any genre for money" guys, then figured on doing a teen friendly "rock" thing... and a couple of years ago the demo tapes leaked. My God, funniest thing in history. Funk pop of the lightest and gheyest kind... but all the while waiting to spring on an unsuspecting demographic - the dumb kind.

Kind of like when I saw Geggy Tah opening for BNL at the 9:30 Club.

Nick Cave.

No Doubt was pretty big too.

MmmBadEggs 2009-05-22 09:13:47 AM
It's more-or-less the chorus from "Hip To Be Square" with some dork yelping over it. That's the problem...

Altman 2009-05-22 09:15:12 AM
Eh. I saw them live in Philly and they were GREAT, but then I bought their CD and the music just didnt come across as well recorded. I think they lose a lot of their power and energy in the studio or something. Maybe thats why they never took off here, no good radio songs...

FARKers never agree on music. No matter which band or performer has a link there will always be a few who come in and say they are shiat. Although I think the Queen threads had the least hate.

That song sounded like it was missing something.

lexslamman 2009-05-22 09:52:47 AM
I'm surprised that they didn't hit in the US - they certainly embrace the mediocrity that most of our pop music represents.

This.

Plus, you need to work on your English, subby.

Finally, after 48 posts, somebody notices "these guise". Never thought I'd see "my favorite band is better than your favorite band" take priority over something like that.
