That would be awesome. Adam definitely seems like he and the band would hit it off. Brian May told him last night that he was awesome as he shook his hand. I said this way back during the auditions that he and Queen would probably be a natural. There will never be another Freddie Mercury. but Adam could do him proud carrying on the torch.

I wouldn't mind seeing that, but then in the grand scheme of things I probably wouldn't care.

/don't mean that in a snarky way - just that I probably woudn't pay attention

Adam definitely has a the range and ability. However, I don't think I could be as enamored with an Adam led Queen, as I was with a Freddie led Queen. You can't top Freddie.

the buzz

You mean EW.

I've only seen a few performances of his, but he definitely can't hold a candle to Freddie Mercury; his versions of these songs would be naff karaoke versions.

About the same as Paul Rodgers in other words.

This could work - as would a stint with Led Zeppelin should Robert Plant ever choke on his own vomit.

Don't stop him now.

Also, losing American Idol is usually one of the better things to happen to singers, as the AI contracts are ludicrously stringent. All the money in the world for Simon Cowell, while piss for you, singer. The second place person usually gets a better contract, Kelly Clarkson excepted.

That Kris guy is absolutely forgettable. Adam Lambert, who is memorable and so talented, can do just about anything he wants vocally. This sounds like a great fit for him.

TimeWaste 2009-05-21 09:10:02 AM
About five minutes before Queen started up I told my wife Adam was trying to be the next Freddy Mercury.

I will now go buy a lottery ticket.

Who can? Queen as a band name should just go away.

Pick a signature song as a name, call the band that, and go on.

It would give me some hope for new material at least.

He is definately a great singer and frontman, but I just don't like his look. Change the hair and the makeup.

Hmm...
Adam Lambert and the Fat Bottomed Girls?

I guarantee you with 100% certainty that a year from now, nobody will have any idea who Lambert is, he will have NO career.

That could work.

I actually liked Paul Rodgers a lot with Queen. Not the same as Freddie Mercury, but hearing them do some Bad Company songs was pretty cool.

So the important question of the day...
Adam Lambert or Freddie Mercury, which one is the bigger Queen?

theriverrat 2009-05-21 09:33:11 AM
While I think Lambert is an immensely talented vocalist and performer, he's certainly no Freddie Mercury. Nobody is. To me, Queen hasn't been Queen since Freddie passed - and Lambert as front man wouldn't change that.

I think ScreamingInDigital is right when he says pick a new name and move on. It's simply not Queen anymore.

edip1976 2009-05-21 09:33:13 AM
I've been of the opinion for several years that if Queen wanted someone that was in Freddie's mold they should see if Mika had any interest in collaborating.

No...just no. I'm tired of these bands trying to pretend they're the same with a new lead singer.

The Doors - Jim Morrison > Ian Astbury
Queen - Freddie Mercury > any replacement
Journey - Steve Perry > than any sound-alike replacement

At least The Cars called themselves the New Cars and I'm sure they still sucked without Ben Orr.

He'd be great in Queen, no doubt.

But it would be a career mistake - why sing 30 year old songs with old geezers ?

You may be right, but Daughtry recovered quite successfully from his beating by, umm... who was that guy?

No, I don't watch AI, I don't like AI, and I don't even like Daughtry's blatant rehash of Fuel, but the man was wildly successful after losing.

Count DeMonay may be his inspiration.

My co-worker who sits next to me sang with Kris Allen in college in a band. Small world.

How old are you, 12? Those were before my time too, but I can recognize them for the iconic, classic superstars that they are. Kiss and Queen rocked the house, it was like watching a Superbowl halftime show, and Stewart's voice was right on track like always.

Kris Allen may be a sweet, loveable guy, but that doesn't make him bankable a year from now. Just like 90% of all AI winners. Last night's show was awesome, it was a reminder of what the word "Idol" actually means. Until the end, where we find that it's not really a singing and performing competition after all, just a forum for teenage girls.

Welcome to the mediocrity that is American music today, Kris.

Out of the four groups/people mentioned, I'd only call Queen "iconinc, classic superstars." And no, I'm not 12.

And Queen is only relevant to the target audience of American Idol in that they did that song that Shrek and those other old guys headbang to in that old movie their parents love.

Just as long as they don't pick "Flash".
People could get the wrong idea.

Hell, if the band likes him, I think they should tour. Sure he's not Freddie...but nobody's Freddie.

Look, I adore Queen. In concert, Paul Rodgers was great, because he didn't try to be Freddie, he didn't sing "Freddie" songs, and Bad Company stuff sounded pretty good.

The Cosmos Rocks was a farking abomination of an album, and I would love to hear something more reflecting May's solo work in some new material with Taylor. The disc reeks of curmudgeony old retired-ness, blues rock with no bitterness or edge, about 1 oz of metal through the whole thing. A younger guy might invigorate that a bit. I'd love to see it happen.

I saw David Bowie on tour in 2004. Bowie's bassist Gail Ann Dorsey sang the high parts for Under Pressure. It was a great performance to see live.
