YPAC had 2. A beat '72 in England, and an '85 in Germany. The '85 I converted to most of a Mini Cooper after the original 850cc motor blew....spliced in a 1275cc twin carb.
Damn gokart was fast.

My '07 S is the best car I've owned; more fun to drive than the Crossfire I traded in for it. Followed the shipping all the way here from Oxford (some really cool fan pages direct you as to how). They aren't for everyone, admittedly- but hardly a POS.

Submitter FAIL. Hard.

Same goes for the Panda and the Renault 5. The Mini has a certain 'coolness' factor to it, but the Panda and the 5 are equally (un)reliable basic transportation and they are CHEAP.

lecas 2009-05-17 09:31:30 PM
in the early 70s a friend had an original mini along with a austin-healey bug eyed sprite and a couple of extra engines of different sizes, IIRC we put an 850 head on a 1200 block and when the lucas ignition and the 2 dual throat side draft carbs all agreed it either car was a able to scream down ih25 with the best of them. the mini was right hand drive too.

we could pull the engine/trans from either car in about 20 minutes and didn't need a lift to do it, just got on either side and up it came.

was always disapointed i never got to drive either, but neither was good for someone with an inseam of more then about 28 inches.

winchester92 2009-05-17 09:32:59 PM
The New MINI is #1 in the world for resale value and has been for several years. It's the polar opposite of a Mexican POS.

abnormally sought after over-valued pieces of sh][t.

I thought the new Minis were made in Germany.

Either way, the John Cooper Works is fun as hell to drive. I don't think I've ever driven a car with better handling.

I've wanted a Toyota Prius since they came out, and those go for 22,000, or a Honda Insight, which goes for 23,000, and those aren't even new, now, why the hell would I buy half the car, twice the fuel consumption for 28,550?

Great fun cars. I had a R5 GT Turbo that had been "slightly" modified, and by slightly I mean it was running about 180BHP. Damn thing weighed as much as a coke can (850kg as standard, mine was far from), had about as much crash protection as a coke can as well. No ABS, no traction control, no power steering.

Went like a farking rocket though. 0-60 in the low 5's, as long as you didn't stall the turbo. Used to shoot flames out of the exhaust on downshift, and sounded like a rally car. Used to eat engine mounts like candy though.

Man I miss that car.

Lots of British cars are really cool and POS. And by POS I mean they break down a lot.

Because people will buy them for that price.

Fortunately you seem to be a bit smarter than people.

Minis are fun little cars. I'd almost buy one, but I'm a super-cheap bastard. Especially since I've got like a 10 minute commute now, and it doesn't matter if I go highway or backroads, it's the same time limit.

Anyone recommend a good quality SUV or small pickup? I looked at Explorers and F150s a bit ago, and they all start at 30k, apparently, which is total bullshiat.

I want the ability to carry a couch or bed in my vehicle, and not have it break down evars (Don't care about luxury items like power whatever, etc.)

/Miss my days in Houston when I could hit 70-80 on the highway

Looks like traffics backed up on the 405, those of you heading for spaghetti junction might want to take a look at an alternate route this afternoon.

or for the brits:

The M40 seems to be experiencing a bit of a slowdown nearing the Beaconsfield services, those of you headed in that direction may consider a scenic drive through the Bucks.

/Do they do traffic reports like that there?

We bought a 2005 S Cabrio while stationed in Sardegna...that was the perfect car for those little mountain roads and is fun to drive here too.

Also, it came from Germany. Did I miss a memo?
