I've seen the flag. I've never seen one of these mythical MIAs still being held in camps in Southeast Asia for 40 years. Can we let go of this now?

MIA, do you know what it means? Honestly, it has nothing to do with Chuck Norris, John McCain or Rambo.

Lately, I've noticed that I'm having trouble remembering the Alamo, and I seem to have forgotten the Maine entirely.

Hopefully you are a troll and not a dumb arse. MIA=Missing in Action. No confirmed death. Trust me, this is a very real issue today as well as in Vietnam.

Wasn't the POW/MIA flag thing started as a way for the right to yell about how the left hates our troops, caused us to lose Vietnam, etc? I don't really know anything about it, this is an honest question...

Seeing as most American War era ex-servicemen are stoners I'm surprised any of you can remember who, what and whatever is left behind in the jungles of Laos/Viet Nam, but carry on bouncing your ambiguous ponderings between yourselves.

There probably aren't any POW/MIAs, you all probably just left some guys behind who were to wasted to get on the plane, they'll all be in Bangkok elbow deep into some ladyboys if you want to go 'rescue' them.

RIP. Unfortunately, the POWs and MIAs from Vietnam have been forgotten. Just flying a flag does nothing to creating closure.
Find them and bring them home.

I'm sure there are some MIAs from Iraq and Afghanistan whose bodies will never be recovered, which is unfortunate, but where are the prison camps where the Iraqis and Taliban are holding US prisoners? The design of the flag implies that there are large numbers of troops out there being held prisoner, which just isn't happening in an organized way in current conflicts.

I don't mean any offense, just being Devil's advocate here. To me it seems a lagely Vietnam era issue that doesn't seem as relavant now. For Iraq there is only one soldier still listed as MIA, and there don't seem to be a lot of MIAs for Afghanistan, either. The military seems to be a lot better at keeping track of its people now than during the Vietnam War, which just seems to have been a huge disorganized clusterfark all the way around.

That said, goodnight POW/MIA man.

You sound gay.

Admit it, it's been thirty years, the senselessness of it all.

What else is senseless?

Admit it too, the grim humor in the traumatized and fearful greatest generation trying to get the over privileged and self-centered baby boomers to fight a stupid worthless war in South East Asia.

After reading some of the comments on here, I'm actually flabergasted that some of you think this flag is a joke!

I'll tell you this is disturbing. Do you think that it's just bikers, and homeless veterens that show this flag?

I lost my older brother in Vietnam and I fly the flag on my truck and in my front yard as a tribute. Yes there are more over in Vietnam. Maybe they are alive, I don't know. I can tell you this, until each and every American serviceman is brought home from other countries, this flag will fly.

You have the ability to speak the way you do thanks to one or many of them giving their lives for your freedom.

I don't think it's a joke. I think of it as a symbol of weakness, though. The only people in war who should have to worry about POW/MIA issues are the losers. Victors squeeze the truth from their vanquished foes.

And while we're at it, let's ditch this whole "exit strategy" concept. If you have an "exit strategy", you've already lost the war.
