One man, one guitar, two chords.

Wait, I'm an admin? When did that happen?

It was good, but I wish he'd written a description of what he was doing.

It's OK I guess, but I suspect it's mainly an ad for his store.

This is what I came here to say.

Considering the way that it was recorded, the fact that it uses only 2 chords detracts from the performance in what way?

It failed to leave me very impressed. Was it good? Yes. Was it interesting? A little. Was it impressive? Not so much.

The click sound he makes by slapping his thigh, then repeats the rest of the song, pretty much ruins it for me.

loser_death_spiral: Not as cool as Herman Li's enhancement pedal.

What the HELL. I didn't know people could actually SOUND like that.

"Terr your friends, Herman Ri is coor or I wirr shiat on your head".

Fact: layering stuff on top of other stuff is one of the simplest songwriting techniques.

Me about 1:30 into this video. Is there a climactic ending at least?

justoneznot 2009-05-17 03:14:49 PM
I think this is one of those things where it's a lot more fun to the person doing it than the listener. Because of its repetitive nature, the audience gets bored real quick. It's a cool youtube video but if you actually had this on mp3 you wouldn't give it more than 1 or 2 listens.

Saw him open for Buckethead down in Austin. Definitely neat.

As for the other guy, yeah, yawn at about 2 minutes. Calling the Boss super-duper-cost-more-than-my-entire-stomp-box-collection Loopstation "1 pedal" is a bit, umm, yeah.

/Eat my echo slapback playovers

Abuse Team Robot 2009-05-17 03:21:38 PM
Wow. A loop pedal. Never heard of one of those before. Must be alien technology. And to think, a video on Youtube where a guy makes a little song with one? Unheard of.

This is not a new thing:

I've known too many intense guitarist dudes who had arguments with themselves and were jerks to women. All that intensity and complexity isn't just in the sound.

craigdamage 2009-05-17 03:48:24 PM
What exactly am I supposed to be "impressed" with?

The guitarist or the looping technology?

Didn't Jaco do this back in the 70s?

craigdamage: What exactly am I supposed to be "impressed" with?

he plays something, and the pedal makes it play back while he plays and records more things.

A wee modulation could open it up, no?

That was not impressive at all. I fell asleep right away and woke up even less impressed than I was. I was so unimpressed that if there were a "Kingdom of those who are Unimpressed", I would be the king. I could easily make a much better song in two minutes and I could play circles around this clown. I just choose not to. I am glad that everyone else in this thread is a seasoned musician like me and that we are unimpressed as a cohesive community.

I'll see your one man with three chords and raise you one Tony Smiley (pops new window to You Tube), my favorite musician in Portland Or. He just released a third album and they can all be found on Cd Baby. Been a fan of his for almost four years now, and he does an amazing cover of Cameo's "Word Up"
