Is it still a secret when everyone already knows about it?

Lando Lincoln [TotalFark] 2009-05-17 11:03:54 AM
Yeah, gee...that's some state secret there. The "undisclosed location" is his house? Ya don't say.

Gonz 2009-05-17 11:12:45 AM
Why is this seen as a gaffe by Biden? Oh, nevermind. Just noticed which bastion of journalistic integrity wrote it.

das [TotalFark] 2009-05-17 11:26:02 AM
Biden is an ass-hat.

Bloody William 2009-05-17 11:36:57 AM
Clift continued: "The officer explained that when Cheney was in lock down, this was where his most trusted aides were stationed, an image that Biden conveyed in a way that suggested we shouldn't be surprised that the policies that emerged were off the wall."

Just because the administration before was hyper-secretive about everything, doesn't mean this one has to be. Is the bunker classified? Is it a state secret? Or is it just something interesting?

40yoVirgin [TotalFark] 2009-05-17 11:57:49 AM
Oh noes!!! The VP will not have a place to hide now. Whatever shall we do?

40yoVirgin: Oh noes!!! The VP will not have a place to hide now.

Aside from the beginning of an attack, while the Secret Service needed someplace safe for the VP to hang out for the whole continuity of government thingee, I'd think the VP would be whisked out of DC ASAP if the shiat really hit the fan.

If nothing else, Dick Cheney has proved that it's a bad idea to have a Vice-President who's smarter than the President. Biden simply reinforces this theory.

It was classified. It was a secret bunker. That means you are not supposed to tell people about it.

I read about this years ago. This isn't news.

Yeah, I can't even begin to imagine what's under the White House. There's probably a duplicate of the West Wing encased in a 10-foot wall of steel.

Is the fact that most people would guess there's some kind of bunker down there a security risk?

Wombatzu 2009-05-17 01:54:45 PM

FOXNews: major political blunder, country is doomed! oh noes!

Biden is hardly as vital to Obama as Cheney was to Bush. If something happens to Biden, FSM forbid, Obama gets a new VP, if something had happened to Cheney, Bush would have asked how far human cloning had progressed.

I thought when the Vice President leaked information, it wasn't classified any more.

Besides, what's worse, telling the press that the Vice President's home can be used as a fallout shelter, which any moron would already assume, or telling the press the name of a CIA operative?

The President can just up and decide anytime to declassify anything... does this privilege extent to the Vice-President too?

Necrosis 2009-05-17 02:01:32 PM
Was this really a secret? It seems like the existence of something like that in the Naval Observatory would be a pretty safe assumption. Cheney is gone, and apparently Biden isn't worried about his safety there, so who cares?

/whargarbl!

das: Biden is an ass-hat.

I met him quite a few years ago. I'd have to say, he seemed a decent enough sort. When I met Ed Rendell, I felt like the entire room was coated in slimy residue. When I met Joe Biden, I got the impression he was a nice enough guy who still seemed a little surprised that he was a US Senator. I don't know if I'd hand him the nuclear football and tell him to run with it...but I never got that slimy backstabber vibe from him either.

meh. take it for what you will.

dodecahedron [TotalFark] 2009-05-17 02:01:40 PM
The article I read about this talked about this very bunker under the Naval Observatory, and also the one under the Greenbrier in West Virginia.

Faux News should stick to reporting about spicy mustard being elitist.

And yet everyone already knew about it. And whats the point of classifying a 'room' anyways?

Oh, and Arlen Specter....yeesh. what a dirt bag. Ever been sitting at the bar around 2am, just before last call? there always seems to be a shifty looking guy at the other end of the bar oggling the women left in room, and you can see said dirtbag trying to calculate which of those women are drunk enough for him to take home and abuse. anyways - that dirty skanky grimy dude is Arlen Specter.

Um...apologize for what? I'm not at all surprised that there's a bunker under the VP's primary residence. In fact, it's the first place I'd go looking for secret bunkers.

How exactly did they find Biden in his basement in order to give him this interview? He must not have been hiding very good.

I heard from someone who had the misfortune to meet Cheney, that he was was followed by a black and evil aura.

I can believe it.

I think Joe forgot that it's now (or was) his bunker. There goes more taxpayer money now to build a new one.

I've never met Cheney, although I'd like to some day. In his interviews, Cheney seems to be a weak and frightened old man who's angry and bitter about something. I wonder what he'd be like in person?

that's just what they want you to think... the old one is really the new one and they are disguising it by openly talking about it.

If you want to go bunker hunting, grab a USGS topographical map of maryland and go for a walk.

Wow! You mean the country's #2 man has a secure location ON THE SAME PREMISES AS HIS RESIDENCE?!?!?!?

I, for one, would never have suspected.

/hasn't this been common knowledge for a long time now?

EW! Maryland! NTY! I heard from a credible source that it was becoming a third world country.
