Fourteen students were expelled after the lunchtime melee.

Principal Terry, there are lawyers on lines one thru 14 wanting to speak with you.

Isn't prom itself a form of punishment?

Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief.

The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules or took a few liberties with our female party guests.

We did.

But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few sick, perverted individuals.

If you do, shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system?

And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general?

I put it to you, Greg.

Isn't this an indictment of our entire American society?

Well, you can do what you want to us, but we won't sit here... and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!

Gentlemen!

/Waiting for them to hold their own prom, sponsored by their parents with booze.

You are right. Inciting a riot in no grounds for expulsion.

Students: FOOD FIGHT!!!1
School: WTF!? Prom is cancelled!
Students: WTF!?!?! You can't do that!
School: Okay fine. We're expelling the people responsible.

So we've taken the overbearing-ness and instead of spreading it out among the whole student body, they target it on 14 people.

Expelled. For a farking food fight.

What an uptight bunch of shiatfarkers.

WRONG:

Collective punishment is the only thing that works. It's the only thing that clears out the "few insurgents" or crystallizes a resistance into a revolution. This dilly-dallying about is ultimately counterproductive nonsense. the notion that you can have a 'normal' life in a warzone is utter crap.

I fully support his decision to expel these students. Disruptive behavior in the lunch room will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Children need a great deal of behavioral modification to prevent things like this from happening. They should have made an example of these kids with a firing squad.

betona: We had a huge food fight at the end of my freshman year in college, not too long after Animal House came out (good lead-in, Preston). Everybody knew about it and went through the cafeteria lines quietly loading up on extra mashed potatoes and other ammunition.

And we sat down to dinner.

All of a sudden it hit. I remember a loud rumble as a thousand chairs suddenly scooted out with people jumping up to throw. The air above me was completely filled with food flying every where.

I unloaded everything I had and made a beeline for the nearest door. While I got away, they locked the doors and made everyone inside clean up the mess. And that was the end of that.

If it were to have happened nowadays, they'd probably arrest everyone under homeland security domestic terrorism charges and expel them from college. Because yesterday's hippies are today's overzealous administrators.

Oh and,

If it were to have happened nowadays, the families of the students locked in would have sued the school for false imprisonment.

They were expelled but are allowed to be re-admitted with a meeting with the principle and their parents.

If the 14 were caught immediately, they should have cleaned up the mess. And been left to figure out for themselves how to do the homework assigned in classes which they missed while busy in the lunchroom.

If they were caught later, give them the choice between lunchroom cleanup or twice as much time in detention. Giving them more free time is not a great disincentive.

Actually, punishing everyone for the actions of a few is an acceptable form of punishment. The idea is to get everyone else so pissed off at the troublemakers they take it upon themselves to police their own instead of just standing there giggling whenever some coont gets all... coonty.

Or they just go all Full Metal Jacket on them with a bar of soap in a pillowcase. Either way, they straighten right the fark up.

/or kill a school official then shoot themselves
//either way, it's a good thing

Yeah, FARK had everything to do with this. LOL

yesterday's hippies are getting minimum wages trying to be good teachers

Minimum wage is $26.92/hr where you live? Where the hell is that?

The lowest paid teachers that I know of pull down $42K. That's $20.19/hr for a full year, but actually $26.92/hr for teachers since they only work 9 months of the year.

Lots of fighting and guns and fire makes a riot. A foodfight equals a longass day for the janitor(s).

Someone else got greenlit. Sorry.

But that doesn't mean Fark had anything to do with it. Anyone who has been around parents whose kids have been wronged (real or imagined) knows that there isn't a more annoying force on the planet.

It seems that being an asshat is a job requirement for public school administrator. Given how these assholes operate, I don't think every home schooler is a right wing Bible thumping whack job.

When I was in school, it meant being thrown the fark out, for good, and it was a pain in your ass to try to find another school to go to.

Of course, nowadays, it very well could be a temporary thing. Anyone else know?

Expelled means kicked out. Expulsion can be from an individual school or an entire school system. And since the laws in most jurisdictions require kids to attend school until a certain age, this can mean a serious burden to the little sh*t's -- uh, snowflake's -- family. If they can't afford to send him to a private school, they are usually forced to move into another jurisdiction where he can attend public school.
