One of the really good songs from 1974.

That was surprisingly enjoyable.

I've heard that song 500 times. I never heard the huh-hah, huh-hih, huh-hih version which was evidently not safe for radio.

Amazing.

Chaka don't like that. Chaka mad.

Chaka mad?

Chaka real mad!

An OBVIOUS tag needs to be on there.

Too bad the youth of today don't know what real music is about.

Oh how I missed the music of the 70's. I was born just a tad late.

Bye.

/Marvin Gaye FTW

Which one is Rufus ?

Seriously, a great mixing job, even if it came straight off of the board. You don't hear that too often anymore on SNL or other live shows.

Is that guy playing a Mustang ? I finally sold my '65 Duosonic last year because the neck was just too narrow.

Glenechocreek 2009-05-16 04:11:04 PM
Jeebus, that was a smokin' song. I miss those days.

berniex Is that guy playing a Mustang ?

Maybe a Fender Lead II.

Great funky soul here.
I laugh at dumb white kids who think 311 and Red Hot Chili Peppers are "funk"

Those guys rush like spastic white punks from the burbs.

Real funk is greasy and in the pocket. Funk is all about space and restraint. More what you DON'T play than what you do.

/bass player
//my band is currently auditioning drummers
///having to repeat that above lecture/rant again and again ad nauseum

....and we ain't even a "funk" band.

respectfully, I dunno about all that. I don't wanna start off on the wrong foot, I'm no 17 year old white kid but I do think that rhcp used to be super funky. not the definition of funk, but funky nonetheless. these days they are about as funky as my pressed work shirts, but at one point in time the funk was present amongst them.

311...not funk. no funk at all. they were funk if funk is supposed to sound like a walrus getting raped by a polar bear in burning bullhorn factory.

i've heard the song before, but I never knew who played it / sang it! thanks subby!

I suppose "True Men Don't Kill Coyotes" is kinda "funky" in a way overly spastic rush the hell outta the beat kinda way.
RHCP is "funk" for those who have never heard "Jungle Man" by the METERS.

btw--I was mistaken on the guitar identification from above.
The Fender Lead series wasn't available until 1979.
That guitar is not likely a Mustang unless heavily customized.

Kinda looks like a Fender Bronco but with a smaller headstock.

Looks like a Musicmaster to me.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love the Clavinet?

That was nice. Chaka was so funkin hot.

I remember when Midnight Special and In Concert were both on at 11:30 pm Eastern time. It was a great way to finish an evening. In Concert was my favorite in that they actually went to scheduled concerts and filmed live.

Have either of those series ever been released on vid? I'm sure copyright approvals wouldhave made it difficult.

Freakin' awesome. Thanks, subby, never heard that version before. Freakin' HAWT.

fuzzwell [TotalFark] 2009-05-16 08:51:43 PM
I love this version.

What a great bass line, and what good musical ability.

The lead singer is hot. I would have sex with this woman after she rolled a big joint and gave me a 40 of malt liquor.

It would have been glorious.

Hmmmm....not sure I see that in the lyrics, but possible.

You ain't got no kind of feeling inside
I got something that will sure 'nuff set your stuff on fire
You refuse to put anything before your pride
I got something that will knock all your pride aside

CHORUS:
Tell me something good (tell me, tell me, tell me)
Tell me that you love me
Tell me something good (tell me, tell me, tell me)
Tell me that you like it, yeah

Got no time is what you're known to say
I'll make you wish there were 48 hours to each day
Problem is you ain't been loved like you should
What I got to give will sure 'nuff do you good

Maybe a Rhodes too.

Ah, yes! Good old funky school bus music!

(School bus music for me is the old 70's funk that got radio play on the school bus when I was a kid)

1. Funk reigns supreme when done right.

2. Chaka Khan was ridiculously sexy AND talented.

3. It's a shame Chaka Khan is now in the same religious nut boat as Prince (another god of funk) because she still has the pipes to blow away anyone on American Idol or the current top 40.
