"I am hearing the rumors, and as far as I know there is no truth in the rumors," Bolden said. "You can't say 'yes' or 'no' when you haven't had a conversation. I haven't had that conversation and I don't have one scheduled."

So another fraud.

I mean really, we never even landed on the moon....We try to reverse engineer the technology from the aliens that helped the jews build the pyramids but just can't figure it out.

So a guy from NASA really doesn't bring much to the table..except how to keep a secret for decades

This guy hardly looks qualified to make the budget cuts necessary for the US to make a profit off of space travel. A business as large as a nation doesn't need astronauts in charge. The real heros are the accountants. Just remember that when Maj Gen Whoever tries to explain why NASA's space launches are so boring and have such low ratings.

You Democrats enjoy this while it lasts. It is Obama's pragmatism and competence more than any ideology that we all like.

There is nothing inherently 'conservative' about Fredo Bush hooking up all his frat buddy arabian horse judge Liberty Creation Science College grads and politicians who lost to dead people with positions like this.

In 2016, when Obama rides into the sunset, you will have to choose from all the same thieving, drunken, lecherous, pathologically self absorbed political hacks as in years past. Then when Democrat and Republican candidates are about the same in their competence, arrogance, and honesty, we can focus again on ideology.

let's look at his resume,

Bachelor of Science degree in electrical science from the United States Naval Academy

master of science in systems management from the University of Southern California

graduated from the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at Patuxent River, Maryland, and was assigned to the Naval Air Test Center's Systems Engineering and Strike Aircraft Test Directorates. While there, he served as an ordnance test pilot and flew numerous test projects in the A-6E, EA-6B, and A-7C/E airplanes

Deputy Commandant of Midshipmen at the Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland

Deputy Commanding General, I MEF, Marine Forces, Pacific.

Commanding General, I MEF (FWD) in support of Operation Desert Thunder in Kuwait.

Astronaut Office Safety Officer; Technical Assistant to the Director of Flight Crew Operations; Special Assistant to the Director of the Johnson Space Center; Astronaut Office Liaison to the Safety, Reliability and Quality Assurance Directorates of the Marshall Space Flight Center and the Kennedy Space Center; Chief of the Safety Division at JSC; Lead Astronaut for Vehicle Test and Checkout at the Kennedy Space Center; and Assistant Deputy Administrator, NASA Headquarters. A veteran of four space flights, he has logged over 680 hours in space. Bolden served as pilot on STS-61C (January 12-18, 1986) and STS-31 (April 24-29, 1990), and was the mission commander on STS-45 (March 24, 1992 - April 2, 1992), and STS-60 (February 3-11, 1994)

Bolden was the first person to ride the Launch Complex 39 slidewire baskets which enable rapid escape from a shuttle on the launch pad. The need for a human test was determined following a launch abort on STS-41-D where controllers were afraid to order the crew to use the untested escape system.

Civilian... not civilian... doesn't really make a difference to me. What matters is competence. In this case, the man appears to be competent. Sure, he might prove to not be good at this job, but that remains to be seen. I'll have to reserve my judgment on his performance until after he's had a chance to do the job.

Might as well just put the military completely in charge of NASA.
The military's share of our country's space budget is twice or more that of NASA's peaceful purposes.

Just as the Energy Department budget is heavily military because they have the military's nuclear programs....

I think this is what NASA needs. You don't get to be a general in the Marines without being an outstanding leader/teacher and a bit of a cold blooded cut throat.

When I read about the accidents at NASA it seems there was a lack of leadership to stand up to the external pressures and yell "WTF! Lives are on the line and we are going to do this right!" He's been there on the shuttle sweating it out during the launches and reentries.

I say given his qualifications he's an excellent choice.

FWIW, I have been accused of being slightly to the right of atilla the hun. No Obama worship here.

There's no difference between the mindset of a retired 2 star vs. an active duty 2 star. You're arguing semantics.
