The first sentence made me cum in my pants. The second sentence made me cry myself to sleep. So, just like everyday.

To this day I can remember talking to Brian Burton on Clayton St, near Kum's, one afternoon as he mentioned he was moving to England for awhile. I was too self-involved to get his email address or current cell number, figuring that like most Athenians, he'd be back in town and readily accessible soon enough.

Nowadays, he's proven his talent and I'm just a schmuck who worked at a record store with him at one point. He was always an incredibly nice guy, who always gave me copies of his mix CDs and his work as Pelican City. He's a talented musician and producer, and completely worthy of all the work and accolades he's received.

But I might be more drunk at this moment than he is right now. So I have that going for me.

Yeah, me too.

I've watched a Lynch film or two, and all I really know of Iggy Pop is the catchy tune from the Caribbean cruise commercial. Not a clue who the other musicians are.

Which raises a question -- Any one of us can list some current music we're enjoying, and every single thing on our lists will be too obscure for some farkers & too commercial for others. This is a semi-diverse place, at least geographically, socio-economically, and by age. But could one group - college educated caucasian childfree libertarian gen-x alcoholics living in the northeast, to pull something out of my ass - be represented here in sufficient numbers to give rise to a sort of a gold-standard-for-coolness-on-fark?

So I guess I'm wonderin' if the thing mentioned in the headline is a niche thing, or if it points to some kinda cultural phenomenon I'm not aware of... sort of like how just by hanging around Fark I became dimly aware of some rockabilly subculture going on someplace.

/I ramble a lot after the Concerta wea

If you like rock or punk at all, I recommend that you pick up some Stooges albums, stat!

Also, if you click on the link in the NPR article, you can stream the entire album.

I'm not going to give you a hard time for not knowing about certain musicians. But just for your edification, that song? The catchy one on the cruise ad? It's called Lust for Life. It's about screwing, drunk driving, and getting wasted on heroin.

who cares about crappy Lust for Life?
go download Down On The Street from Funhouse
and discover one of punk's great roots

as for this assortment of celebrities...
it's too diverse to end up satisfying,
although i won't mind if i'm proven wrong by some boffo tunage

so to speak.

The Secret Terrorist 2009-05-16 12:58:07 AM
Pity the album's not being released at all, and is being replaced by a blank CDR

"Down on the Street" and "Loose" are two incredible ways to start off an album.

And if you're really curious, listen to the whole DM/Sparklehorse album via the streaming link at the NPR article. Just listened to the whole thing and starting over right now. Basically sounds like Sparklehorse with the aforementioned famous singers sitting in, but it has some really good moments.

thanks, i'll actually check it out
cuz i do approve of all the contributors
in one way or another

despite the 'bombastic farce' possibilities
that such a collaboration would suggest

Well hell, that's fantastic advice! Instead of, you know, suggesting an album or two so that the guy can be turned on to the music you love. You know, sharing.

I'm assuming that you're a hit at parties!

i would also like to add that i am listening to this for the second time. i would also like to go on record admitting i thought would never, ever say it, but that susanne vega song is really gdammed good.

That's such a cool idea to release a book of photographs with music. Too bad that EMI are being bastards. And the music industry wonders why it is doing poorly.

I love Sparklehorse. I can listen to Good Morning Spider over and over again and never get tired of it. There are a lot of other cool artists collaborating on this album too.

I love music snob threads :)

While it sucks that it may never be officially released, the blank CDR idea is awesome and hilarious.

I haven't heard much of Danger Mouse but if what he did to Beck's last album is an accurate representation of his work, he can fark right off.
