ah, newt gingrich - the paragon of ethics and morality!

seriously, republican'ts - i know you think the pelosi issue is gold. and i understand - it's the best thing you have right now (i mean... mustard, really?). but sending an old ethically challenged white man - a guy who was booted from the very position he's now criticizing - is just farking stupid. and the dems are loving every minute of it.

look: they've got this young, vibrant, charismatic leader to speak for them, and you've got... what... dick cheney? newt gingrich? you couldn't find two guys who better reinforce every negative aspect of the modern GOP. so, keep hitting pelosi. your base loves it, to be sure. but your base is dwindling. fewer than 21 out of 100 americans identify themselves as republicans now. and it's shiat like this that is the reason.

"I think this is the most despicable, dishonest and vicious political effort I've seen in my lifetime."

Look, Newt, even her own party is fed up with her. But aren't you reaching just a bit with that statement?

"And I think this is a big deal. I don't think the Speaker of the House can lie to the country on national security matters...She is a trivial politician, viciously using partisanship for the narrowist of purposes, and she dishonors the Congress by her behavior."

Newt, I am shocked and appalled that such a political creature does in fact exist. The next thing you know, the GOP will be accused of "dishonoring" Congress. Go ahead, start you formal inquiries. In the meantime, there are larger issues facing us. I believe you will find that most people outside of your already very lotal base will view an organized attack on Pelosi, regardless of merit, as petty and as a red herring. But by all means, do make a huge deal out of this. It's not as though you've ever been the part of a charge on a democrat only to have it blow up in your...oh wait.

Yeah Newt, she is. She's farking terrible. Here's the thing: You don't offer an alternative. Your party is not an option.

Look, Newtkins, once we sane, rational, liberals came down from the inaugural high, we looked around and saw that your party had come apart at the seams leaving us with no system of checks and balances.

And while most of us feel good about this Obama fellow, we don't have the same feelings about the career politicians like Pelosi and Reid who simply faded into the background and allowed Bush to ruin this country- in fact, that's the main reason why Hillary Clinton isn't the president right now.

So Newt, while most of us are highly amused by the Rush Limbaugh follies you people are putting on, in the back of our minds we're worried: Obama can't keep these idiots in check by himself. You're gonna need to come up with some reasonable rebuttal points, because biatching about mustard and birth certificates simply will not work.

Stay Cool Babylon: most people outside of your already very lotal base ...

This is a wonderful "Portmanteau word," but I am wondering what it means.

Loyal + Mental = lotal.

Or Loony + Total = lotal.

("Loudmouth" + "on Nembutal" technically only refers to Rush.)

I don't understand why Gingrich is anything other than a political afterthought anymore.

The man's got some smarts. I won't deny that. But the application of his smarts and political philosophies leaves much to be desired. He's an academic politician. On practical matters he's all over the map. You never know which Newt is speaking at any one time.

The GOP would be best served by keeping him on as an advisor and keeping him off camera.

this
compared to the recent crop of GOP talking heads, newt comes off as sane

the ONLY hope that the GOP has is to find sane again
they already have 100% of the nutty vote
they need to grab some of the middle or they will be on the sidelines until they do

/yes yes yes, of course the left can completely implode and alienate the middle that got them elected

Sorry for the post script, but he also is relatively free from the taint of the Bush administration, and they can point to him being in a position of authority when America was prosperous and at peace.

I can't believe people are falling for this. Trying to deflect from the fact that the former president and his administration committed war crimes by getting all self-righteous about what exactly a member of the opposition party knew about their crimes? There really are people who want to see Pelosi punished for saying she wasn't full briefed about torture, while out the other side of their mouths they are defend those very acts torture.

Unfarkingbelievable.

Sure, these rubes will say "it's not about torture, it's that she lied to the American people" while ignoring not only the torture ordered by the Bush administration, but the series of lies told about it ranging from "we don't torture" to "it was just that one time" to "it was just these guys a few times" to "it worked, I swear!". Not to mention that it appears the torture was ordered not to gain actual intel, but to support the lies told to get us into the war in Iraq.

Go ahead and investigate Pelosi all you want. She is only lying about knowing the things the Republicans were supporting all along. Please, GOP, take Pelosi down, and yourselves with her.

Seriously, this is the most head asploding situation in politics I have seen. Pelosi was caught in a lie about torture. But the truth is far more damaging to the GOP than it would be to the Democrats. Maybe some of the Democrats knew about it, but the GOP was engaging in it. It's like the Republicans are scared this is going to go to the courts, so they are just going to bring down as many Democrats as they can.

Nancy Pelosi never supported torture. Even if she knew about it, she was bound by oath and law to remain silent about it.

The GOP is like the boy in high school that thinks if he can make a girl dislike you, she will go out with him. The GOP is under the delusion that making the Democrats look bad will somehow get them the next election. What a joke. Most Repugnicans will be staying home for the forseeable future, if all they have to choose from in their primaries are clones of Newt, Cheney, Coulter and Rush.

I'm not entirely sure what Republicans are looking to gain by attacking Pelosi like this. She's not well loved nationwide, making a big deal of this isn't going to reflect badly on the Democrats as a whole, not much anyways, and its certainly not going to cause her to resign or lose her next election.
