Or did Sir Elton win a few rap battles in The Shelter before teaming with Bernie Taupin?

Is this Mr. Mathers way of saying he's coming out of the closet?

RoxtarRyan [TotalFark] 2009-05-14 04:19:34 PM
Ugh....

"I talk to Elton (John a lot). We became friends, and I talk to him about things, career-wise.

"And he had a substance-abuse problem in the past. So when I first wanted to get sober, I called him and spoke to him about it, because, you know, he's somebody who's in the business and can identify and relate to the lifestyle and how hectic things can be. He understands, like, the pressure and any other reasons that you wanna come up with for doing drugs.

"Me and him have had similar lives and stuff. So I reached out to him and told him, 'Look, I'm going through a problem, and I need your advice.'"

*shudder*

Wait. Which one has the talent, subby?

T.rex 2009-05-14 05:24:28 PM
Slim Shady most definitely has talent. ... or had... a lot of his stuff is based on angst. When you are a millionaire, some of that hungry angst seems to dissapate.

daychilde [TotalFark] 2009-05-14 05:25:48 PM
Precisely which one are you trying to suggest has any talent, subby?

Vanetia: Wait. Which one has the talent, subby?

*shakes tiny fist*

I usually make fun of the people that don't read before posting, but I didn't think anyone else would make the joke.

I guess I must touch myself at night (after drinking too much vodak and acting like a moran)

Elton John has all sorts of talent Subby

his name is Bernie Taupin

See, told you Eminem was gay. How else did he make it in the industry, it wasn't singing talent, it was how he moved in that dress he wore for the dre.

Eminem is so worn out now, we get it, you're angry and white. Everyone is down on you, and this time you'll do better. And yes, we understand you're a "rapper". Thank you for confirming you're gay though.

It's not my genre of choice but Eminem is talented at writing that kind of music.

Sir Elton John has had his pinkie finger in more talent than that little dolt M&M has in in his entire body!

Eminem's "angst" is pretty much the teen pissy with a bunch of "how much will this shock my parents?" thrown in.

/Listen to Rage Against the Machine if you want angst.

I'm well aware of who does what.

jj325 [TotalFark] 2009-05-14 07:10:38 PM
I would agree with the similar lives idea to the extent that Elton was overwhelmingly popular 1970-1975 the same way Eminem was 2000-2005. And the substance abuse issues which came out of that popularity/fame/money. Sure, Elton has had a long career and remained popular, but the guy was unreal early 70's---2 albums a year hit singles constantly face was everywhere. Sounds like Eminem at the start of the decade.

Tom, sure, but not Zach. Not even close.

And fark you, by the way, for implying that anyone who doesn't grow up in shiatty areas of shiatty cities doesn't understand political griefs and corporate/governmental evils. It's a universal issue with universal understanding.

Yeah, "Yea, nothing like I grew up in a rich white neighborhood, but I understand oppression angst.", really does describe Tom though. He does live comfortably enough, though, that pretty much all the proceeds from his shows (at least on the Justice Tour, not sure about the NINJA tour) went to non-profits, which is always a plus.

He really is a good person regardless of his background.

jj325: 2 albums a year

This is what I've always found to be totally unreal. And they were all above average at the very least (at least until A Single Man). I'm not trying to emphasize quantity over quality, but as someone who grew up in the '90s waiting 2-4 years between albums, and who is looking at a future in music production, it's intimidating.

/Impatiently awaiting anything new from The Shins, Joanna Newsom, Boards of Canada, Kamelot...
//new Elton, not so much

All Eminem can do is write lyrics.

Elton John can do anything but.

/Relapse is a disappointment save for a couple of tracks

Relapse is a difficult listen. The parts that are awful are just awful, whereas the parts that are brilliant are depressing and unsettling.

Eminem is extremely talented. You liking his musical style is not required. I don't care for it either, but I can see what you fail to admit.

Ya, ring me when Eminem is contracted to do the soundtrack for a Disney movie. That would be seven parts awesome, three parts retarded, and six parts lawsuit.

I am digging Relapse. It sounds fresh. I'm also really into the new Green Day, it sounds like Born to Run.
