I'm to cool to dance. Except maybe to the Dead Milkmen.

So, still three, then.

Four.

The English Major: I'm listening to Sounds of the Universe right now, so I'm getting a kick out of this thread.

I didn't like it very much. It's very Depeche Modey, but hell, I like Exciter better than Sounds of the Universe, and that album blows.

I was planning on going when they came to Istanbul. :(

I haven't listened to them in a long time, but Violator was my first experimentation with emo-ness (the state of mind, not the genre of music).

This is the second time I've listened to the CD; I'm still not sure how I feel about it, which means that it will fade into non-play. Unlike, say, Construction Time Again and Violator. I agree that Exciter was...lukewarm, to put it kindly.

NOT

Dan2ine 2009-05-14 03:12:54 PM
Everything after "Songs of Faith and Devotion" sucked, and even that one was just meh.

One of my favorite stories is when they came here (and I went to) their Exciter tour. They said on their blog the audience was blah through the first half of the show... when they played everything post-Violator. Yeah no kidding, maybe if they played any songs that were faster than 50 bpm we'd have something to be excited about.

I am an old Depeche Mode fan, that means heavy beats, dancy hooks, and no effing "soundscapes" and noise feedback.

chouchou 2009-05-14 03:13:38 PM
DM is my all-time favorite band, buy yeah, Sounds of the Universe is underwhelming, to put it mildly. I'm not even sure I managed to listen to it all the way through.

timmy_the_tooth [TotalFark] 2009-05-14 03:26:59 PM
What are we up to so far? 6 folks? In all of Fark?

Yeah, methinks they didn't want to play in an empty venue.

mcgreggers99 2009-05-14 03:29:01 PM
Subby, DM rules. Everyone knows this.

me thinks Jonas Brothers are more your style?

timmy_the_tooth: What are we up to so far? 6 folks? In all of Fark the Music tab?

It's a dumping ground. No one comes to the Music tab.

They need their. own. personal. GI-man.

sonicfluid 2009-05-14 03:40:18 PM
I like Sounds of the Universe. More importantly I'm tired of cheap headlines taking shots at how many fans a band has. Seems like it's the easiest way to get greenlit on the music tab even tho it hasn't been original or funny in years.

I am a longtime DM fan, and I really like the new album - it's a lot of old school synths, but without sounding old-school, and the more you listen to it, the more it grows on you.. well, except for Martin's obligatory ballad, 'Jezebel' - which I now skip over. The rest of the album is awesome.

Might go to the monthly Depeche Mode party at this club here in Dresden. DM has a ton of fans here and these DM parties are pretty fun. Last time I went it ended up being one of the funnest nights out in a while. Saw DM in concert a few times back in Texas and they never disappointed.

Agreed, brother.

Thta said, I'm guessing the subby is being a trollmitter, because Depeche shows have crazy high turnouts, in *spite* of albums like Exciter, Playing the Angel and Sounds of the Universe.

conejo 2009-05-15 05:39:44 AM
There is a small nation of DM fans, especially in SoCal. Subby is a hick in flyover country and a Creed fan?

MikoSquiz 2009-05-15 06:11:42 AM
Yeah, as if Depeche Mode weren't sill one of the biggest pop groups in the universe. C'mon.

I've been to a Depeche Mode-themed bar. A bar. All DM all the time.

mwfte 2009-05-15 07:10:06 AM
I love Depeche Mode, and I would also hit Dave Gahan like the first of an angry god. (Or whatever the euphemism for women would be.)

most bands could only dream of developing a fan base as rabid as DM's. I used to be one but everything after Ultra has been pretty much a fail for me..few good songs but no more solid albums...will still catch them at lollapalooza though.

Wow...(I'm being serious here)...that was/is an idea I've been lingering about for quite some time now...I'm glad/saddened that someone got to actually realize it.

*golfclap for the owner*

Can you tell me the location?

mpfjr 2009-05-15 10:59:21 AM
Depeche Mode is my favorite band of all time. The thing about their albums with the exception of Music for the Masses and Violator, is that the songs usually take a while to grow on me. This latest album I only like track 7 so far. The rest are so-so.

8Man 2009-05-15 12:57:39 PM
DM is my all time favorite band. SOTU is as s*ity as Exiter. I'll still be seeing them in Dallas in August. IMO... Wrong is the only good song on the album.

Jocundry 2009-05-15 01:42:27 PM
Fan.

Seeing them for the first time this summer.

Hope he recovers. For my wallet's sake. And, well, because I don't want him to die and stuff.
