Fark Metallica.

Metallica still sucks. I just want to add that no single band should have a Rockband/Guitar Hero game named after them that has just their songs, because that's boring, and makes them look like sellous. Guitar Hero still sucks too.

A nice gesture, but still....fark Metallica.

Now what would be really heroic would be Metallic growing back all their hair the way it was when they started out. Facial hair included. It would take guts to look like that nowadays.

Bonus points for tying onions to their belts.

well it's a good thing that hasn't happened. googles are your friend. although...I'm hoping that you did indeed meant 'sellouts' and not making up words as with other things.

BUT, while I think seeing them live at this point is lame, it's cool what they did for the show they had to cancel. they had thousands of shirts printed up and handed them out for free (while supplies lasted, of course) to every fan that got screwed outta the last show. pretty sweet deal for those that cared enough to go

People on Fark have issues when it comes to everything. Just go to any thread about any musical artist or band and you'll see the haters come out in force. Of course, some bands really do deserve the hate, such as Coldplay and Radiohead.

jiaxiaobo 2009-05-10 03:44:04 PM
Why do Metallica deserve hate again? Metallica-hate has been one of Fark's biggest clichés for so long, I honestly forget.

...doesn't want people to download their music for free?
...did the 80s thrash metal thing already and wanted to experiment with different styles?
...cut their hair?

...isn't almost every rock band guilty of the above?

dazuwood 2009-05-10 04:47:20 PM
Metallica (and Lars in particular) became the poster-boys for the RIAA. Problem is the RIAA went from shutting down sites like Napster (not metal) to suing people for ridiculous amounts of money. Metallica's image was tied to theirs, so people inferred that Metallica must support this, and thus be as douchey as the RIAA.

People also like accusing bands of selling out. When Metallica cut their hair, there was an outcry of 'Sellouts!' When Metallica began playing alternative rock venues the cries got louder. The hatred against them for what happened with napster could arguably be justified, though I cannot really see it. To me, selling out is when an artist licenses their music for a non-artistic purpose, like selling cars.

/If Death Magnetic had been done by any other band people would think it brilliant
//As a Metallica album only St. Anger is worse.
///Love everything else (even Load & Reload)

I don't get the whole "sellout" arguement, myself. Seems to me you sell out as soon as you contract out your present and future "art". The only bands that aren't sell outs are those guys who practice in a garage and play in some shoddy whole in the wall bar.

Because they didn't release one decent album since ..and justice for all.

..conveniently the following album started their career in the charts, thus the sellout remarks.

wellll sellout can be a dangerous term I guess. I guess I still love Metallica, I love the "in between" albums, hate St. Anger with a passion, but like the new one. as far as selling out...well, you can buy metallica shoes, baby clothes, this, that, everything. a lot of other bands have sold out to that level as well, you can even get Slayer shoes. Tons of bands do sell out but many are pretty big and don't get sellout-y. cafepress doesn't count obviously.

I do not own Opeth undies.

Metallica's awesome. I don't give a f*ck if they're douchebags or not, I don't know them and our paths never cross, so it's irrelevant. DM helped remind me I'm not dead yet - they're all ten years my senior, and they can still kick ass.

Seeing them in Boise. Have tickets already. Can't f*cking wait.

This actually is pretty cool of Hetfield.

You usually don't get food poisoning from the last meal you ate. It's often the meal before your last meal. Takes awhile for the spores to grow.

bionicjoe 2009-05-10 06:43:44 PM
Metallica are a bunch of douchebags because of Lars.

Watch "Metal: the History of Heavy Metal" and see Lars' story about yelling something at Nicky Styxx or some hair metal dude.

Lars ran.
Nicky couldn't catch him because of his girly platform boots, etc.

Here's the question we all had:
Why the fark are you running like a biatch from Nicky Styxx!?

/"Some Kind of Monster" did not help their image either.

If you're going to throw stones, at least try to pay attention and get your quote right. It's My lifestyle determines my deathstyle.

Or, as the Bible says "He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword."

Let me get this out of the way...

Serious metal fans, at least the ones that I know (particularly ones that we're teenagers in the 80's and were metallica fans) Take issue with metallica going off on napster and starting that mess, because it was hypocritical. Metallica may have never taken off if it wasnt for the constant tape trading and copying that went on to spread their music. It was integral to getting them off the ground.

I've supported (bought shirts/went to shows/bought the albums) more metal bands than I could count, that I initially heard by friends making me a cd with "X band name's" stuff on it.

Metallica simply attacked an extension of the outlet that helped make them great. And thats why they suck, as people.

/end

dstanley 2009-05-10 07:42:25 PM
I thought Lars went full douchebag because "I Disappear" off the Mission Impossible soundtrack showed up before it was done. They didn't have a problem with their live shows getting traded.

dazuwood: If Death Magnetic had been done by any other band people would think it brilliant

This. In fact, I've said the exact same thing several times before. Death Magnetic is a damn good thrash metal album (sure, it's not as fantastic as Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets, but few albums are), but because it was made by Metallica a lot of people are going to instinctively hate it simply because they're still bitter over the whole Napster thing and/or St. Anger.

I, myself, used to be pretty anti-Metallica from the late-1990s to the early-2000s. But I moved on and have even started becoming a fan again after re-listening to their first 5 studio albums. And with the release of Death Magnetic (which is definitely a step in the right direction for Metallica after the suckiness that was Load, Reload, and St. Anger) I'm looking forward to future albums from Metallica for the first time in years.

Subby? It doesn't say much for your idea of a 'hero' when it has devolved to a 'rock star' who goes back to the resturant where he supposedly contracted 'food poisoning.

which was what it took, unfortunately, to completely revolutionize the industry, possibly kill record companies, and give more creative power to artists of all types. yeah, boo!

I take no issue with it and I grew up on it. Metallica always did and still does fully support bootlegs, but only(and always only) of things they arent selling commercially themselves. Bootleg the Monsters of Rock tour? Sure. Bootleg one of the S&M concerts they recorded and released? No. Hell, the stuff they put in fan cans are generally the highest quality bootlegs they can find, which is pretty cool.

Music is art and business. I'm not going to begrudge anyone for combating piracy as that is part of running a sound long term business.

This is what serious metal fans know. Disillusioned tape traders incorrectly compare tape trading with file sharing.

LOL this.

I am a metallica fan. Always have been. But people saying they sold out on the black album etc. are full of it. People have been accusing Metallica of selling out since they got signed.

I'm sure most people here do not remember or even know that metallica once swore they would NEVER make videos.
