Danzig sucks.
And why, even if a joke, would you send that to your Mom?
Stupid.

I love seeing the evil midget get knocked cold by one punch in a fight he started. And I like his music.

Reposted from the other Danzig thread:

Danzig kicks ass. I'm partial to his first full length (self titled). It's probably because it was one of the first non-thrash Metal albums that I really got into, thanks to my brother.

Totally in another direction though, I was at Paganfest 2 on Friday.

Swashbuckle needs to hire a (new) sound guy because all I could hear during their set were the drum kicks and the vocals. I was seriously disappointed that I didn't get to hear everything that they have to offer. Blackguard were great performers, even though I didn't dig their music.

Moonsorrow came on and absolutely tore it up. I was lucky enough to catch them when they headlined Heathen Crusade 3 last year, but this time they performed even better. I had such a great time during their setlist, it was honestly one of the best performances I've seen in a few years. They came on stage and seemed a little out of their element and tired, but after they saw how much energy the crowd had going, they took over.

I thought it would be impossible for Primordial to beat Moonsorrow, and Primordial is my favorite band! Then Primordial took the stage. Absolutely incredible. Nemtheanga has awesome energy and stage presence. He really knows how to get the crowd going. The band, as a whole, plays very polished and shows their experience every single second. I had chills the entire time that they played The Coffin Ships (new window)

I tried to enjoy Korpiklaani but it was pretty much impossible to beat Moonsorrow and Primordial. They are two of my favorite bands. I respect Korpiklaani and I think their music is great, but I had to leave the floor about a quarter way through their set because I was still digesting Primordial's performance. It is a shame that Primordial isn't headlining, but I understand why. Lucky for me, before I left the venue I got to meet and chat with both Nemtheanga of Primordial and Sorvali of Moonsorrow.

I guess this will have to be the SHMHC thread today...

BigSnatch: I guess this will have to be the SHMHC thread today...

Dammit. So my post was removed?

Let me try again.

My submission: Kreator - Hordes of Chaos.
My comments" So, does this mean we'll have Immolation on Father's Day?
My other Comment: Congratulations on Paganfest BigSnatch.

My Recs:

Solitude Aeturnus: Basicilly the American version of Candlemass, though they sound much doomier than Candlemass. I also like Robert Lowe's vocals better than Messiah's.

Borknagar: Black/Folk metal that isn't quite black metal nor quite folk metal. Kind of hard for me to discribe them, but many of their riffs have a majestic and melancholic qualtiy to them. Borknagar also has alot of very pleasant clean vocals thrown in with your standard black metal vocals. Listen all the way to the end.

Mirrorthrone: I realize that I never recommended Mirrothrone on a SHMHC thread before, but only on a jacked thread to Kliffoth. It's a Symphonic Black Metal project done entirely by one man named Vladimir Cochet, who does everything, from guitars to singing to recording and mixing to the cover art entirely in his bedroom. Which is amazing considering how professional it sounds. He is one of the best keyboardists I've ever heard, and he has one of the nicest clean vocals in Black Metal, which he mixes with some harsh vocals.

I see your Danzig and raise you "Mother" performed by Sleater-Kinney and Pearl Jam. Bonus: Sung by an actual mother.

Used to cover Mother in a band. Everyone but the singer kinda hated it. When the real singer wasn't there, we would make up funny lyric versions of it off the cuff.

Still remember one demented Weird Al style take:

Mother
Will you let me have the car tonight?
Will you let me stay out past 8?
Mother?

Etc. Etc.

We even did a swing arrangement (before Richard Cheese started doing that type of thing). I think the singer dropped the song after he caught us in the middle of goofing it.

Going in 4 days. How long did each band play?

Kliffoth: Going in 4 days. How long did each band play?

It was about 45 minutes for Primordial and Moonsorrow, and a little less than that for Blackguard and Swashbuckle. I'm not sure how long Korpiklaani's set lasted though.

Even though I wish Primordial and Moonsorrow had gotten more time, both bands did a great job with what time they did have.

I just bought a couple Primordial CD's. I like what I heard on Youtube, I'm sure I'll enjoy seeing them. I would have picked up a Moonsorrow disc but the store had none.

They should have had an hour each at least for how long of songs both bands play. I'm going mostly for Korpiklaani but I'm eager to see these 3 bands.

I am sure you will not be disappointed. After the Moonsorrow set, I could tell that a lot of people who hadn't gotten much exposure to Moonsorrow were now instant fans. The same could be said for Primordial.

Even though I said Swashbuckle was not very good, their lead singer had some great between song humor. My favorite was after a song where the poor audio was really apparent: "Uhhh, as you can tell we aren't sound technicians or anything like that, we're Pirates!"

BigSnatch, I'm jealous of you. Paganfest 2 sounds like a blast. And I rather like Blackguard's music, too... which reminds me that Alestorm's new album should be out soon.

Since this is apparently our SHMHC, here's some stuff I've been enjoying:

Carnival In Coal - Right Click... Save As...: French avant-garde metal. Definitely a little off-kilter (for example, Cartilage Holocaust, a disco song with some farked up lyrics). Quite enjoyable for those who like their metal flavored with weird.

Blotted Science - Synaptice Plasticity: Like progressive or technical metal, but hate the cheesy vocals? Blotted Science take care of that by not having a vocalist.

Aghora - Immortal Bliss: Think Cynic, but with a female vocalist and no vocoder. Actually features the bassist from Cynic.

I've been in a proggy mood.

Think "Misfits" Danzig. That guy was a badass of epic proportions. Regardless of the argument, you could make the point that they were the first black metal band a decade before it existed and win.
